I read the story and don't really remember any hard knocks on the church. In fact, I recall the church and the pope being portrayed quite well. Certainly nothing in the league of what I am planning to do. *Grins Maliciously*. I agree with the earlier post that you should be proud of having evoked a strong emotion. I got a number of "how could you" mails when I did my riff on Saintly Lily Potter back in chapter 9 of my main story. It provoked emotions powerful enough for people to write long reviews whether they liked it or hated it. Provoking emotions means you have either fresh ideas or a good story. (In your case both.) Enjoy the infamy!

Take reviews like that as the pissing and moaning of people who either lack the talent to come up with something meaningful of their own or the rantings of people who shouldn't have read your story because of their beliefs and now have decided that they must flame you to appease their guilty concious.

I've practically turned Harry into the son of god in two fics now. (Once as the other more popular son of god, and more recently as the alleged third coming of Jesus.) And no one bothers to condemn me to an eternity burning in the lake of fire.

I'd say take it as a compliment that you can rile them up so easily.

Intelligent minds can see the "fiction" in your fanfiction. (An evil part of me wants to say the same for the bible, but I doubt even that would rile people up.)

And if you're that worried about it, you can always paste those bad reviews or slightly psychotic bible-thumping harpies' messages here. I suspect a number of folks will gladly rip them to shreds and assure you that you're not the crazy one.

 

Okay, first of all, the person who accused you about attacking the Catholic Church is stupid, period. As simple as it sound, it is simply the truth, he is a moron. I myself am a Catholic and I was not offended by your story. I even accept the fact that the Catholic Church has done many atrocities in the past and in the present.

I understand the difference between reality and fiction, and I can easily separate them from each other. There is nothing wrong if an author writes about something that he believes in, even if others disagree with him/her; you can not please everyone.

Now, in writing fiction, authors can not help themselves but to influence things in their favour. Different people have different views, so while people will assume that Harry Potter will do this, other will disagree and do that. We see things differently; we assume things differently. So my only advice is to ignore those fools that think that they have the right to influence YOU in what YOU write.

 

hehehe, this all makes me think of the challenge I posted once which was basically set up on the premise that the Church as a whole was a hoax created millenia ago by a group of power and control hungry wizards. BAsically it had every high ranking member of the catholic church as a wizard, and there was like a whole secret department dedicated to making "miracles" happen.

I wonder if I wrote that how badly I would get flamed. COuld be fun lol.

Lightning-quick, before Voldemort could even think about doing anything, Harry shed his cloak and lit his wand. Underneath the cloak was 20 pounds of C-4.

Voldemort, being ignorant of Muggle culture and technology, dismissed the lumps strapped onto Harry's body and raised his wand. But before he could incant a spell, Harry screamed, "I do this for Allah! JIHAD!" and lit the fuse...
