There's going to be 10 episodes, an hour each.

Given the lengths HBO is going to make this show as high quality as they possibly can, I can understand that the budget is going in to make fewer but denser, more well put together episodes.

    Just saw the last episode.

FUCK, those last two scenes were powerful. I can't remember if there was anything bad in the episode 'cause those two scene made me forget almost half the episode by sheer awesomeness. And I finally get to see Ghost, Awesome.

I didn't like Littlefinger's scene with the two whores in this last episode. I can't quite put my finger (sorry) on it, but his acting seemed terrible. The whores were fine--not many lines there--but his monologue was practically painful and completely unnecessary.

Thinking in retrospect, it felt like some kinda prelude to his betrayal.

The last scenes of newest episode were indeed one of the most awesome and unexpected(I haven't read the books but plan on as soon as season 1 finishes).

Ha. My reaction exactly. And yeah, while the sexposition scene with Littlefinger and the prostitutes wasn't perfect, the whole speech pretty much foreshadowed his inevitable actions at the end of the episode.

Poor Ned. Dude's heading down a bad path, no doubt. But hey, at least it's inspired a series of internet meme-like things! Here. My favourite's the second and the seventh.

And that ladies and gentlemen, sums up why I hate Ned Stark. I've been waiting a long time for this :)

    EDIT:But on another note:
I can one-up you Taure, or maybe I should say Khal Drogo can one-up Ned.

And to my son, the stallion that will mount the world, I will also pledge a gift. I will give him the iron chair his mother's father sat upon. I will give him Seven Kingdoms. I, Drogo, will do this. I will take my khalasar west to where the world ends and ride the wooden horses across the black salt water as no khal has done before. I will kill the men in iron suits and tear down their stone houses! I will rape their women , take their children as slaves and bring their broken gods back to Vaes Dothrak! This, I vow, I, Drogo, son of Bharbo!I swear before the Mother of the Mountains as the stars look down in witness!

There are somethings you can be cheap about, assassins are not one of them. We finally see why he is such a badass to the Dothraki.

But wow, for a show of this caliber I have to say that the Littlefinger scene was beyond terrible. It was a blatant info dump that was so badly written I can't even blame Carcetti (as he will forever be known to me) for fucking it up. It goes completely against Littlefinger's character to be that open methinks. I've had issues with his performance ever since his showdown with Varys but damn this was bad. Combined with his fluctuating accent I just switched off and focused on the whores. It didn't help that his lead-in was even worse. Lena Headey is a good actress, but that whole stoic thing she has going is just... gah. It just kinda creeped up in the scene slowly but surely until she was looking like a first-year drama student.

Now that I'm done picking apart the actor's performances. I can say that Tywin Lannister was awesome, and so was Jaime's reaction to him. And this was possibly Robert's best scene.

But on the whole, I liked the episode, Jon Snow's shit was as boring as usual, and Samwell Tarly's face makes me want to punch him, and then give money to the casting director, cause that's the whole point innit?

All in all I enjoyed the episode. Ned Stark might have let his honor get the better of him, and it never seems to go well for him, but I'm not sure why there is some Ned hate going around -- I think he's a fantastic character.

The scene with Littlefinger and the whores didn't strike me as particularly bad as it seems to have struck some. It certainly wasn't good, given that Littlefinger is info!dumping all over the place, but he didn't use any names and given the world they live in it's unlikely the whores would be able to piece it together (and even if they did, the information itself isn't something the major players didn't already know, the only wrinkle is that Littlefinger is planning to fuck someone over). It doesn't quite jive with his character but eh, and the scene itself was clever at least. The later scene with Littlefinger and Ned was better.

Parts with Jon I enjoyed, as usual. Though I don't recall that Benjen's horse returned without him in the books. I sort of liked the idea that he just up and disappeared with no clue as to what could have happened. I liked the speech with the emphasis on serving the realm before all else. Probably also good that they glossed over the bits where Jon convinced Aemon to take on Sam, etc. Not much point in using up screentime on that.

Joffrey at Robert's bedside appearing somewhat distraught that his 'father' is dying? That seems to be a bit at odds with his character, though I suppose he can't have been entirely without empathy for him. That was one of Robert's best scenes though, especially the parts between him and Ned.

Drogo was pretty badass. Though at first I wasn't sure if they were giving him boos or cheers during his speech, given how scared they are of the sea.

Last two scenes? Yeah, definitely what everyone said -- nicely done. I don't recall Ned actually coming out and saying that Joffrey had no claim to the throne though, not in public at least, but it's rather a moot point. Sort of like how I don't recall Littlefinger physically pulling a dagger on Stark, but both things work better for the film than following the books more precisely would have.

    Looking forward to next week!

Despite having looked forward to it since the TV show was announced, Syrio's final scene still surpassed my expectations.

"The First Sword of Braavos does not run."

Episode 8 was packed full of awesome moments.

    Syrio's final scene.

    Robb calling the banners.

    Barristan's dismissal.

    Jon killing the wight.

I thought the Sansa scenes were a bit weak, but I think Sophie Turner is the worst of the child actors anyway. She's still fairly good though, and she has a bad part to play in Sansa. The fact that those scenes annoyed me (especially with the whiney tone of her voice) is probably an accurate representation of the character in the books lol.

Quite possibly the best episode yet. Every scene was well done. I agree that the bits with Sansa seemed weak, but as Taure said a lot of that is probably accurately representing her character, and at least those scenes were fairly short. Syrio, Jon, Robb, Tyrion, all freakin' amazing.

One thing did bother me a bit though, and that was the scene where Drogo was wounded in his duel:
I'm 99% sure that that isn't how Drogo was wounded in the books. It's the wound that is going to eventually kill him, whether that is due to the Witch Doctor's "help" or not, and since it's only a scratch I think that's going to be that much stranger when it does for him. It's not that big of a deal, and this let's us see the injury on screen instead of him taking a graver wound off-screen fighting a battle, but I don't like the fact that it was essentially a fight over Dany that led to his death. Though it does manage to artfully consolidate some scenes to save time.

But wow, that's so incredibly minor in comparison to all the freakin' awesome in this episode. Robb was really fantastic in this one -- I like that we didn't find out why he let that guy go yet, haha, can't wait to see the result of that in film. It's still a shame that the wolves are more pets than true companions in this one, but that's not something it's possible to change. And man, did I ever feel bad for Barristan -- Joffrey is a little douche.

    Great episode.

    In a fantasy series

I noticed this and I'm glad. The books were never clear if he was going to die of his wound or if that shaman chick poisoned him, then manipulated Dany into sacrificing her child into saving him, or Drogo was simply an idiot and Miramaz (?) played the situation for all it was worth. I personally preferred the first cause it was more awesome but I like having it definitively stated that she went into it with the intention of killing Drogo.

Awesomely sad maybe. When Littlefinger made his little joke and people laughed I wanted to punch him in the face. The stupidity of the act struck me at that moment.

For some reason I like Joffrey, since someone mentioned it I can't stop seeing him as what Draco Malfoy should have been, charming enough to win over his peers and those around him, yet an utter cunt to those who challenge him in the slightest.

This show is awesome, so awesome that I just might read the books.

How many books are ? I have 3 volumes(GoT,A clash of Kings,A storm of swords), should i read them in this order? Or are there some prologue books that must be read first?

There are 4 books out now and the fifth comes out July 12. Read them in that order then read A Feast for Crows alongside A Dance with Dragons as they are the same book that was split into two for size concerns.

There are also three prequel books: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and the Mystery Knight. They tell the story of ser Duncan the Tall, a knight of the kingsguard something around 80 years before GoT. Not as good as the original series but still enjoyable.

I haven't read these but I thought the draw was that Duncan's squire (another main character in the shorts) was "Egg" AKA Aegon Targaryen. Egg was Maester Aemon's younger brother, who later became king, and was known as Aegon the Unlikely due to the crazy circumstances that led to his succession. When Aemon is near death in the most recent book it is Egg that he asks for if I recall correctly.

I really need to read these -- did I get anything drastically wrong there?
