Challenge #1: The Awakening of Cthulhu

Summary: The Dark Lord Voldemort has discovered an ancient ritual that pre-dates the time of man, which would allow him the power of an invincible army. What he doesn't know is that bringing this dread army from the deeps will awaken a power the likes of which has never been seen by human eyes. The power of the Great Priest Cthulhu and his spawn.

With the summoning of this army the process is started and the Great Old One is awakening, the Elder Gods are in a panic. They cannot rejoin the mortal world, and it will be destroyed if Dread Cthulhu wakes up. Thus they choose a champion among the mortals to be the one to seal His power again. That person is Harry Potter.

In his waking moments nightmares walk the streets, legions innumerable invade the world, all under the weakening control of Voldemort. In his dreams, Gods over alien spawn tell him of his duty. His task to seal Dread Cthulhu back into his Palace at R'lyeh. But, since the Elder Gods are not so ignorant of the powers of Man, they give him a gift, be it knowledge, power, ability, etc. to help him with this quest.

From here on its your choice how it pans out, maybe have him delve so far into the Dark Arts that he is driven truly insane. Maybe have him face Cthulhu in his dreams, to show the true scope of His power.

    Rules:
    • Harry is the chosen of the Elder Gods and is gifted with one thing to help him (could be a power, ability, knowledge, anything you can think of to make things interesting) in sealing Cthulhu.
    • Once Harry meets the Elder Gods (or whichever one of them it is) he is consumed by the horror of being in their presence, even if it is only in his dreams. This gives him the sole purpose of resealing Cthulhu, an obsession that borders on insanity.
    • Since the Elder Gods are not like us in any sense of the word, any knowledge/ability/etc. has its consequences. Spells using the alien tongue would cause damage to Harry's body. Knowledge gained would drive him insane. Its a double edged sword but it makes things interesting.
    • Voldemort's personality is up to you. If he's so egotistical that he doesn't realise his control is slipping, go for it. If he's smart enough to notice, make sure he does something about it. Hell, if he loses control completely you could make him fight along side the Light Side if you want. Go for it, its your choice.
Well, that's pretty much all I can think of. If anyone wants to take it up, you're free to. It was just a small plot bunny that woke up in me while I was reading the Call of Cthulhu ages ago but I lost the muse before it got anywhere.

I'd read it. I always wondered if a Lovecraft/HP xover was possible.
