A wiser choice than many make. After all, there's nothing to argue about here, I wasn't being hostile (though, I suppose there's only my word and the reader's opinion on that).

To reiterate: Not escalating things = big of you. Props.

Because if we always got missed by what we attempted to dodge, no one would play dodgeball. :) It's just an extra precaution.

Well, not everyone attempts to dodge by pulling a cartwheel. As to that second bit, not everyone can do those things. That being the case, some might conclude that only less skilled wizards need props like special robes in order to go toe-to-toe with another witch/wizard.

    And they might be right.

I see Battle robes as an extra layer of protection - If someone sneaks up on you and tries to stun you, or if you take a physical blow such as a punch, I imagine they'd stop it. However, I see them as being weak, something that would be useful against a grunt, not Voldemort. Also, I prefer stories that dont use them, since I prefer a strong, intelligent Harry instead of one relying on his super!wand/cloak/amulet etc.

Of course, it could simply be a cloak with a wand holster, pouches for potions and supplies that could be needed if injured in battle.

To conclude, a Battle robe is merely what the author of the fic makes of it.

I'm of the opinion that battle robes do not exist.

Just look at canon, and how the shield-hats the twins invent are snapped up by the ministry.
