"At the time of the Cylon Attack, Galactica was 50 years old and she was undergoing formal decommissioning from the Colonial Fleet following her retirement as an operational vessel. She had been due to become a museum ship; a combined living museum commemorating the Cylon War and educational center. Due to its age, the ship is unofficially known as "The Bucket" by the crews of both Pegasus and Galactica."

    "
Galactica took heavy damage during its raid on New Caprica, and her hull is now clearly darker with burn marks and missile hits, the most notable marks are the three large holes in the top of the ship where its armor is weaker."

"Galactica has been seen taking hits from nuclear weapons. Though the ship suffered damage, she is still operational. It is unclear exactly how well rated the Cylon nuclear weapons are versus Galactica's armor."

I didn't think we needed to be told episode after episode that the Galactica was old and outdated. We've been told that in every season, either explicitly or implicitly. We've watched the ship take beating after beating, including rapid descent through the frakkin' atmo on New Caprica. Remember all those bits and pieces that burned off? They didn't just magic themselves back on. And repair depots aren't exactly a dime a dozen; they don't have a spare battlestar to cannibalize for parts either, like they did early on with the Vipers.

I would understand gradual change, but prior to S04E18 everything worked properly (unless there was a battle), and then, suddenly, virtually everything needs repairs.

It was like a house of cards. As soon as something began to give, it all started to fall apart. I don't think it's all that unusual in construction: one component fails, placing added stress on other components causing them to fail. Plus with all the shit that had been going on, I doubt they were doing proper maintenance checks and whatnot.

    Episode 15

All they really did was put a patch the problem. They fixed what they used.

Plus these people that are on maintenance, never went to the outer shell/ship's hull unless they were forced to. They focused on the launch tubes.

The second half of season 4 has been really disappointing for me.

I found myself just skipping large sections of episodes, skipping chunks of scenes and sequences, sometimes just giving up on the episodes and just reading a summary instead.

All the answers we had been waiting for were dull and rather unimaginative, not to mention pretty predictable. The revolt was a sub-plot that I found completely uninteresting and a detraction from the main plot of the final fate of the human and cylon races. It was just padding, especially as we kinda knew that Adama would regain control eventually. The first half of the season built up some serious momentum culminating with the finding of Earth and then the pace hit a stand still. Ellen is a boring choice for the 5th, the 7th is equally uninspiring. All the Cylon hate in the fleet got really old really fast. They're stretching out the remaining answers far too long. The title ship dying is a load of shit.

    ...and that's just the beginning.

Basically, the main thrust of the series has been reduced to internal fleet politics which always was the worst part of the programme.

I don't think I'll be watching the rest of the season.

Okay the whole lolearth break the cycle thing was a bit weird, but the first half of the finale was pure win, and the ending with Hendrix made me :awesome

I'm not really sure if I liked how they ended that.
I dunno about the whole "split everyone up all over the planet" thing. At least it didn't end with another Cylon-Human peace. That would've been just terrible. Meh, the show had a good run.

I was pretty much bawling until the last 5 minutes. After that I thought it got kind of weird.

    Battlestar Galactica: The Plan

The film will premiere exclusively on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download on October 27, 2009. It is tentatively scheduled to air in 2010 on Syfy.

Set just after the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, the narrative largely follows multiple versions of the Dean Stockwell and Tricia Helfer Cylon characters who have infiltrated the remaining humans, both on the planets, and those who have escaped into space. From there, the events of the series are shown from a Cylon perspective, and their underlying plan is revealed.

I just started watching this, and felt the burning need to throw in my 2 cents... yet I don't have the time to do a proper rage, so it'll be in quick bursts.

I'm right at the sort of do/sort of don't like it despite the fact that I'm starting to fast forward through a good 50-75% of each episode. Halfway into season 2 atm.

The Doctor/Vice Prez. Fucking annoying, slimy, uncomfortable to watch, especially since he keeps basically air fucking the Cylon. All his hallucinations take too long, add very little, and the guy's acting skills seem to only be A)right at the edge of crying, or B)Suave ladies man. The fact that the guy acts so batshit, makes me break immersion in the show's reality whenever he gets caught air fucking his mind woman while he's supposed to be doing important stuff, and Starbuck just ignores it. Him making a working Cylon detector, then decided to hide the asian girl's test, and then just pass everyone made zero sense.

Colonel. I hate this guy. His voice, his acting, his WIFE. Everything about him just annoys the hell out of me, he's useless and regardless of him being Adama's friend, a commander that good, that cares that much about his crew, wouldn't have an incompetent drunk as his XO.

Every single Cylon-occupied Caprica sequence. It served as nothing but filler, and horribly acted, boring as shit filler at that.

The religious stuff went from mostly just at funerals in most of season 1 to full out, overblown insanity when they land on Kobol. Them spouting that crap gets it insta fastforwarded.

I'm watching for the Adama's, the various political balancing sometimes, and... hell that's about it. Most of the episodes are boring filler, but I do enjoy the one liners they occasionally throw out, and the various problems that popup.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Baltar/Six was extremely annoying and uncomfortable to watch. You would think people would notice right away that he's a whack-job.

I did like Colonel Tigh, sort of. Ge was better than almost all of the other characters. Especially the annoying bitch Roslin.

The only reason I watched as long as I did (I gave up around 6 episodes into season 3) was because I really liked Commander Adama. I thought the actor who played him did an amazing job. Lee wasn't bad either.

And Gaeta was cool. I pretty much hated everyone else.

Half the point of the show was to polarise people - several of the characters were written to be annoying on purpose, sort-of as a way to distance this show from the original, or Star Trek, where everyone was at least agreeable, if not likable.

Eddie Olmos makes everything better, though... Bill Adama is one of my all-time favourite characters, regardless of medium.

Yes, Baltar is a faucktard - and you are going to absolutely hate what happens with him later. One word - Harem.

you're also going to hate what happens with Gaeta; Tigh gets better; Lee gets worse; Starbuck gets... I'm not even sure.

About the only character who never really takes a fall is Helo.

Lol, Baltar was my favourite part of the show. At least in seasons 1 and 2 - after that it got a bit silly. But I loved his acting. That man can express so much with just his eyes.

Whatever you do, don't quit watching before Season 3, Episode 4 ("Exodus, part 2").

You might want to, but you'll thank me when you don't.

ETA: Oh yeah, and the series as a whole gets much better from that point, IMO

Haven't watched/rewatched in about a year, but Helo, Sharon and Roslin were the only things that pissed me off, character-wise, the former because they were so boring and the latter because she couldn't be on screen without me wanting to throw something at it. A hell of a lot of the show was filler, but there were some brilliant, brilliant bits to it, and the twists (and The Twist) were incredible. Baltar and Tigh were my favourites, as they had real character development. They didn't take Lee or Starbuck where they should have. The boring bits were quite boring and the good were very good.

Mostly good fun, but too episodic as a show (as opposed to progressive/story-centric) to keep me totally hooked. Top ten but not top five.

I didn't mind the president until she suddenly became a prophet and started having visions of Cylons and snakes.

LC, I know Baltar becomes a cult leader, I'm dreading that. After seeing Helo for what had to be hours on the surface of Caprica I'm hoping he dies horribly, but I'm not holding out.

Some stuff doesn't make any sense.

Why the hell did Sharon suddenly decide to wax the Commander? Why did he suddenly decide to take over the government, it doesnt fit with how he's acted since she took power at all. Just a bunch of small things that annoy the hell out of me. Then you have Sharon, which makes my head hurt anytime a scene is with her. She knows they can look like humans, she loves the Commander, and yet when she starts doing all sorts of crazy shit, she doesn't tell them?! She tries suicide, yet the bullet goes out her cheek... yeah.

Starbuck... if she was pretty, I wouldn't of minded her so much, but she's unattractive and he giant nostrils annoyed me.

Think I had the twist ruined for me in this thread already, I tried not to read it, but I think the twist was

    They're all Cylons?

If that's not it, don't ruin it, but if it is it, it makes zero sense.

Nope. Well, I don't think so. I don't remember anything like that.

I haven't seen the series, but I've spoiled myself to hell and back so I could better understand Caprica. Not that it did much good, with it getting cancelled and all. :(
