One shotting adds can be done with literally any primary gun.

 

You're being facetious now. That's not the point. It murders bosses, if there's no adds, your health loss is relatively irrelevant, if there are, mow some down, get your health back or switch to your cocooned off weapons.

Basically, the drawbacks are manageable and make for really fun/ interesting/ rewarding gameplay.

That's what I want from exotics.

 

That's the thing though. ToM is very good on Oryx and the Deathsingers because the immune bubble allows you to just keep shooting. That's not the case in other bosses, however. Using the ToM in heroic strikes, for example, is a big risk. At best, you'll fire a bit less than 20 extra shots before you're forced to stop, just a hairsbreadth from killing yourself.

Draining your life in a risky environment is not something you want to do, because when you're so low it's easy for you to die from boss/adds/whatever, and the DPS isn't so incredibly high as to make the high risk worth it. If you accidentally die because you brought yourself too low using the ToM, you'll lose tons of DPS until you're back up again. On the Nightfall it's even riskier.


Generally, on most of the content dying doesn't really matter. But the content where really high amounts of DPS really matters is the content where dying can make the difference between success and wiping.

 

Fair enough, though it's still not really my point. I don't think there should be One Gun To Rule Them All.

The way I see it, on a scale of 1 to 10, all perfectly rolled legendaries and exotics (minus gimmick) should be a 7 or 8, give or take.

You may have noticed me gushing over ToM and TJR in Y2 (understatement...lol), it's because these are what I want exotics to be. I want their gimmicks to, when used correctly and cleverly, push them to a 10. I also want them to change my play style and be difficult to fully utilize.


Hawkmoon and Gjallarhorn are not that, for example (Hawkmoon less so with the early reloading when bonus shpts used up tactic).

TJR needs a FoaF damage boost, but it still wouldn't be op. Get a string of enemies you can't precision, or be forced into bad positioning and it's just a standard Scout. Use it correctly though and you'll never have to reload and get huge burst damage on demand.

ToM is a dangerous weapon to use, obv. But combine it with DoY and you'll be in a minigame where you're constantly eyeing your health, waiting until the very last second (if you're crazy) to switch over to DoY and unload some high powered sniper rounds while your health regens. When it's full again, switch back over to ToM and start again. You only need to be able to fire for 10 seconds (cocoon reloading DoY for you) before you can switch back to it for uninterrupted, insane dps.

Maybe you can sustain it for longer? Maybe not.

That high risk/high reward style with these weapons? I adore it. It's utterly brilliant. That's what I want exotics to be. I want to be able to put that much thought and effort into fully utilizing them.

I'll get off my soapbox now. I still haven't used the fucking thing.

 

You don't know true fun until you've bursted down a boss by continually switching between Doom of Chelchis and DoY.

Doom is a raid scout rifle and also has cocoon. Mine rolled with full auto fire perk, and the time it takes to fully unload is almost exactly the time it takes for the DoY cocoon to proc, and by the time I've fired 4 shots of DoY Doom is ready again.

Most fun I've had in a while.

 

Sounds awesome. I need a legendary scout upgrade, Hung Jury is nice, but DoC sounds awesome.

He really hasn't, considering that the only thing I got from the entire raid was the Doom. Twice. Both times 300 (as low as it gets). I had to infuse my raid pulse rifle to even bring it up to 305.

I'm pretty fucking salty.

Okay, no. Auto fire isn't default. But still. Doesn't make up for the shitty RNG. Auto fire on scout rifles is QoL but not really affecting RoF.

 

Depends on their RoF I guess. Auto fire on Tlaloc would be a significant dps upgrade (or I can stop being bad and pressing my triggers all the way down...).

DoC looks like it has a manageable RoF though.

 

If SS's only purpose was to let me finally solo the last Taken War quest by letting me easily 1-shot blightballs, 1-shot arc-shielded taken centurions and utterly murder the last 40% of the Echo's health and thereby ignoring the second 'houdini'... Well, #wurf

 

I think I know where Rep's 'karma points' with RnGesus went.

I finally got the Theosyion Vibbrasae, but was shattered when they rolled auto-rifle reload, because fuck auto-rifles. It was on my last attempt too because I'd spent the evening using my 3oC to make the repetition a little more interesting. My sadness was dampened somewhat because I also got an exotic engram on that last run (along with another earlier in the evening).

Turns out that second engram was Zhalo's Supercell, so I at least have a use for the Theosyions.

The earlier exotic was a Scout Rifle reload (yay, not sure if random) Claws of Ahamkara.

Not sure how useful 2 melee charges is in pve, but whatever.

What I'm really here for is to call Rep a baby after hearing him complain about the exotic sword farming quest. Got the 10 pieces in, what? Just over an hour and a half?

The 500 kills were harder, but only because i was virtually lvl1 gunslinger.

 

I'm pathetically excited to see what these emotes are. I'll buy a Worm dance, or an interactive high5 one instantly...lol

I believe that they have a budget. I believe a lot of it is probably allocated towards Destiny 2 (or whatever it's called). I also believe they're telling the truth about emote money funding a live team.

Why? Well, if they were gonna lie to reduce backlash, they'd do so when they do something where backlash is deserved - xp boosts/ marks/ shards etc

People are definitely concerned though, which is warranted after the Red Bull thing.

These kinds of games go one of two ways these days, subscription or microtransactions (or both, I guess). I've no idea how games like Diablo 3 are feasible (they do neither) with the amount of work they constantly put in it (though tbf, little of it is asset generation).

We can definitely judge it in hindsight though. If the content coming out over the next year is more substantial/ better and Y3 is super huge (4 or more new locations. New class etc), then I think we'll have to say they were being legit.

If they just sprinkle out the remaining hidden exotics with crappy SS-like quests and give us TDB and HoW 2.0, then yeah, I'll agree and call BS.



Oh, and I just saw the emotes. Hope there's more, kinda shitty tbh. Slow clap only good one imo, but Carlton dance is pretty funny.

The faithful shall be rewarded indeed! Three weeks later, I finally get a Kingslayer ghost shell. It's only 305 (midway of potential drops) but it's still loads better than my measly 285 had been. It alone pushed me 2 light levels up lol.

Then Golgoroth drops a pair of 305 gloves, allowing me to replace my Exotic gauntlets with those and wear my 310 Skullfort instead of the 298 legendary I was using on my helmet.

All in all, I am now 306 Light, up from 303 that I was earlier today. And still haven't done Deathsingers or Oryx. I stopped at Deathsingers because I haven't slept in two days and I was feeling very dizzy and a bit nauseous, but who knows what'll drop once I do finish it!
(spoiler alert: It'll be shards)

Edit: Turns out it wasn't shards. Deathsingers dropped me a class item at same Defense value as what I'm using, and Oryx dropped a 300 atk Shotgun, as well as the Ruin Wings exotic gauntlets which, because of my light level, spawned at 310. I infused the Ruin Wings in War Numen's gauntlets to make them 310 from 304. This has pushed me to light level 307.
