You're just assuming he needs a reason. This is not cannon!Harry, and as such he needs no reason not to be as he is. It's just like Dresden being a smart-ass. He's always been like that and we need no reason to enjoy it.

Sometimes the lack of explanation for a certain trait can be more important to the story than the actual reason for it.

And yes, I enjoy reading storys that can portrait Harry's descent into the dark arts, but sometimes all that plot is not important for whatever the author has in mind for his story.

Because he's a dick? Because he's been in Slytherin for two years and has become acclimatised to the language used there? Because these Dursleys were ten times more abusive than in canon? Because he's got a lot of hate saved up and is just letting it out wherever it wants? Does he really need a reason?

They're all viable options, you just seem to be ignoring the obvious clues as to why he's so prejudiced.

When you tell someone to fuck off, do you mean that statement literally? No. It's a swear word, you say it to offend, not to communicate literal meaning. Calling someone a mudblood doesn't mean you have to actually believe them to be inferior by their blood, just that you want to offend/insult them. Similar with "blood traitor".

Though it's perfectly possible that Harry's a blood purist in this fic, I suppose.

Anyway, cool fic, will follow closely. 5/5

I disagree with your comparison Taure.

Telling someone to fuck off is not the same as a racial remark, say, calling someone a slant eyed, yellow, commy bastard.(Which is more in context of whats being said here)

"Fuck off" is a swear word that does not differentiate between race. Telling a black person to fuck off has the same effect as telling a white person to fuck off. In order to use the word mudblood(or in my comparison, slant eyed, yellow, commy bastard) you would need to believe yourself inherently superior to them based off the insult used.

Disagree. Slurs originally targeted at minorities are used in the same way as swear words, I think. For example: I call people homo, straight or gay, with no implication of homophobia (just look at Joe and Blaise's flirting). A friend of mine, and many people on here, go round calling people niggers, whether or not they are black, and without any implication that they're racist.

The reason for this is that the word has been used so much that it has lost its "flair" so to speak.

I think a more accurate comparison would be calling someone a homo 30 years ago, before its advent as a widely used slur NOT related to homosexuality.

There is no evidence whatsoever in canon(and I know how much of a stickler you are for canon :p ) that leads us to believe that the word "mudblood" was used in ANY other way than a bigots insult.

He's stupidly angry. And having the emotional range of a teaspoon just makes it a boring read.

    I like anti-heroes/villains a bit more nuanced.

Harry doesn't seem the sort to follow trends even if it were a big one to call people mudbloods. He seems more the sort to say what he thinks will offend people the most.

While this may be true of this fanfic, I nonetheless concede the point to naidrodro, at least with regards to canon (and really, canon discussion is the only place you can have factual HP discussion, as fanfic is whatever you want it to be). All the instances of the use of "mudblood" in the books have been taken literally. Admittedly we only have a small sample (for all we know Slytherins may call each other mudbloods when they argue), but that's all we have to go on. There's no basis to suggest anything else.

In this fic, I think its more likely for harry to fall back on routine(for lack of a better word) as most people do when they are angry, which is to say, he would be more likely to say things which accurately portray his prejudices.

Think about it, when you are angry, you tend to say things you regret, however that is not to say, they were false. Most people only regret what they say in anger because they don't want the other person to know they think that way.

One of the reasons I dislike this fic is because Harry is unrealistically angry. It's believable for him to be constantly angry for the first few days after Azkaban, but really, any longer than that would cause an emotional burnout at the very least.

Edit: And regardless of what anyone else says, EVERYBODY assimilates into society to some degree. It is impossible to completely break away from the values of the environment you live in. Sure, some people oppose certain values they grew up with, but they are still involved in those values, merely from an opposing point of view.

Lets take, for example, a society where religion doesn't, and has never, existed. Where the people have never had any contact whatsoever with people who know of the concept of religion. The people in this society would be completely oblivious to any arguments for, or against, the existence of a god.

Compare it to a deeply religious society, where the majority of people believe in a god, but at the same time, a minority will disagree with this belief. Regardless of their belief, or lack thereof, they have formed an opinion on the matter. Even if they were agnostic, they would still have formed an opinion.(Although, that opinion would be that they have no opinion, which is slightly paradoxical)

    Rated: 3/5
Writing, grammar, and spelling is generally sound. The manifestation of magic is off-putting however, as is Harry's temperament.

I'm really enjoying this story. I don't like Harry at all. The ebon flames in his head need to die a quick death.

But it has an incredibly fun depiction of Bellatrix Lestrange. Just for that 4/5.

    And, of course, for
Decapitating Kreacher. That was just so~ satisfying, especially with Hermione's screams in the background.

Edit: Guess I should clarify. I'm not a fan of 'Dark!Harry' in general so it's a matter of preference. But the dark/evil characters that I do like typically have something more than a 'me vs them' attitude. Sort of the difference between Magnificent Bastard and just plain ol' bastard.

Now one can say, well he's only 14, but since nothing so far has been what an 'only 14' kid does, I think I'm safe in asking that he should get a little more sophistication. A good opportunity for this will be when he returns to school and is on the opposite line from the Death Eaters and the Order. Prime opportunity for him to become more than a reactionary psychopath.

Okay, I know this is probably an idiot move considering you've been arguing with Taure of all people, but do you not think you may be reading slightly too far into this?

I can count on two hands how many times I've felt this satisfied after reading a fanfic.
Kreacher asking for it, people yelling and screaming, and Harry trying to figure out what will most piss off as many people as possible. Perfect mood for the scene.

From reading that, I don't think you've ever been really angry. Like, "Uncle used to beat me as a kid and now I'm gonna slit his throat" kind of angry, which is what this Harry is experiencing. That doesn't go away, and it doesn't burn you out. If Harry wasn't angry for the entirety of the fic, I would be disappointed, because he should be angry. He just needs to focus/channel/hide that anger and do something productive.

Looks like a good story even if it is a bit early to tell. I just hope he has his plot planned out and that is not too long.

Bella is well done, that is rare.

Nice try with the Neville is the BWL plot... he managed to avoid the most clichés so far.

And I like Dumbeldore in this story... he does not seem dumb or evil.

I just hope that he manages a realistic Hogwarts school life...and kills Snape.

PS: I didn´t have any problems with the mudblood. After two years of Slytherin it seems logical for me that Harry thinks better of himself than of Muggleborn children.

Canon Harry's abuse is highly overrated. He was never beaten, starved, raped, etc. Yes, he was a bit on the thin side, and they didn't go out of their way to give him loads of food, but that is a far cry from starvation. Verbal abuse regardless of what some psychologists would like you to believe isn't that big of a deal if one learns to man the fuck up. Also, I have no desire to read a bunch of flashbacks. I would prefer the author just state it in passing and move on.

I hear you. It's just a personal preference. As much as I like AU's, in order to empathize with prick!harry, I like to have a little context.
