Er, yeah, I do... But I don't see why that would 'logically' imply it protects him from demons.

Obviously someone could write it that way if they wanted, but it's not like snatchers and death eaters were being burned left and right by Harry's protection, and some of them actually carry (in their flesh) something related to the person who Harry's protection is supposed to work against.

So there's nothing (in canon) to indicate that Lily's protection would do jack to a demon that has absolutely no connection to Voldemort.

Unless someone wants to imply that Harry's hair growing back and him zapping Vernon when he tried to strangle Harry were actually manifestations of Lily's protection, rather than accidental magic, then I don't see why one would think the demon business is a logical extension of canon.

Again, one could write it that way, but they can't maintain that it's an obvious conclusion to draw from what's in the books.

Edit: And, what's a dementor, if not a demon? That protection sure wasn't saving Harry's ass from those things.

Voldemort was a twisted and corrupted entity, Quirrel willing allowed him to posses him. If such darkness, corruption and tainted entity as Voldemort is repelled by the protection, then Demons as the enemies of life and being completely composed of such energies are sure to be at least affected by such energy in some manner..

Voldemort wasn't repelled by Lily's protection because he was a twisted being, he was repelled because Lily gave her life to protect Harry from him specifically.

You could take an AU route and give the blood protection more properties than it had in canon, perhaps reasoning that it hurt Voldemort so because he had lessened his soul, but at the same time made Harry more vulnerable to Dementors because they increase their being by consuming and twisting souls, or something along those lines. In that case you can then extend that reasoning to apply the blood protection to whatever demonic entities are in the story in a positive or negative way.

Maybe demons feed on souls for sustenance, and this is why they make deals. A demon with a lack of soul might be burned by the 'brightness' of the protection, driving it away, while a demon full up on soul might see Harry as an extra tasty morsel and work to consume him more vigorously.

Depends on where you want to take the story and how you want the mechanics to work.

I don't; I need to get off my ass and do something constructive.

But, you know... I won't. So, in lieu of that, I NEED MOAR TO READ.

Attempting to read the library of Hades would simply take too long, unless you want to go down the whole "time in hell is faster".
Say Dumbledore does make Harry his apprentice. He has limited time to teach him, so uses a special and restricted spell, it literally imprints or downloads the contents of a book straight in to the mind of the caster.
Later, At some point as the Holder of the Hollows, and the Master of Death, he ends up near or in the Library of the Underworld. He casts the spell out of desperation using the Elder Wand, but instead of one book, the entire collection is poured into his head. The whole thing is more than enough to drive someone really loopy.

I'm not using the idea of time being faster in Hell but I am going to use the idea of it seeming longer - an hour in Hell could seem like it takes a life time to pass (and yes, in case anyone's wondering, I am taking this idea from the movie Constantine). When something unpleasant is happening time always seems to pass more slowly (e.g. a good class passes faster than a boring one).

The idea of time passing faster in Hell has been used before - Supernatural comes to mind.

Regarding Constantine...Now that he plays a larger role in the DC universe (Justice League Dark Member - Deals with supernatural threats), it has me thinking that Harry would better fit with this group than the core JL. Especially if dealing with hell and other such places. Seems to be threats more closely related to his area of expertise

I thought about a cross with that group but I got caught up in other storylines. At this point if I did cross HP with JL Dark it'd mostly be to pair him with Zatanna.

There was a story started where Harry was a rune master, and the magical government asked him to use his rune armor to deal with magical threats to the whole world. If a similar premise was used, you could keep Harry to interacting simply with the mystical and magical parties in DC.
Deals involving Demons and Hell never go well. Say Harry needs some knowledge from the Library, but Hades managed to turn this around on him, by pouring the Whole contents of all his books straight in to his mind. THe only reason Harry survived at all is he had limited protection from his mantel of power as the Master of Death, but it would likely drive him a little loopy.

So, in Revelations (that's in the Bible folks) it says "I looked, and there was a pale horse! Its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him. They were given authority over one-fourth of the earth to kill people using wars, famines, plagues, and the wild animals of the earth." (Note, Hell is often substituted for Hades but it works better this way).

Has anyone considered a DC or even a Marvel crossover where Harry escapes from Hell by becoming the Angel of Death but in doing so inadvertantly allows the Hades (DC)/Lucifer (Marvel) to leave the Pit?

Of course there are issues with this, like with the powers that Death's meant to have and moderating the Devil's - and Harry's - power levels so that they don't massively outclass everyone but I think it could work in the hands of a good author.

In DC I imagine the story would be along the lines of Harry and Diana (keeping with A&F's idea of Harry arriving back on earth on Themyscira) trying to to stuff Hades back into Hell. With Marvel though I think that it might be more of a 'Oh shit, the world's ending and we have to save it!' type storyline.

    Any thoughts?

Plot bunny that could have potential in the right hands, although I haven't developed it enough.

    Fandoms: HP, Ultimate Spider-Man

Background: Very AU Wizarding World. Wand wizards never truly expanded beyond Europe. Grindelwald's uprising during WWII saw Continental Europe's wizard population dropped to virtually unsustainable levels. Voldemort made the mistake of trying to imperious an Ultimate Marvel super villain (I'm leaning towards Magneto), which went very badly for Voldemort, resulting in Voldemort becoming a wraith. The Super Villain (let's go with Magneto for now) in turn discovered Wizards and their society in the UK, and deemed it a failed branch of humanity which needed to be pruned from the genetic tree. Magneto's involvement draws in SHIELD, which in turn combined with a strict pro-human UK government and the anti-muggle views of the remnants of the Ministry, lead a to a very poor time to be a wizard.

Now: After the death of James by SHIELD agents, Lily immigrated to the US along with an infant Harry and the modest Potter liquidated wealth, which she used to support herself and Harry while she attended college/grad school to eventually get a PHD in Chemistry. Currently working with Stark Industries, she's trained Harry sporadically in his magic, mainly to make sure he knows how to conceal himself and not get outed as a potential mutant or be detected by whatever magical creatures are native to North America.

Unfortunately, Harry lives in and was raised in Forest Hills, Queens, alongside Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. Close friends with those two, he eventually becomes involved with Spider-Man's activities, using his magic(using his father's wand?) to help out Peter.

Along with the traditional Spider-Man enemies, I could see several unique conflicts that exist thanks to Harry's presence. Opponents of Dr. Strange's ilk could be attracted to Harry's use of magic, leading to possible fights alongside Dr. Strange and Harry slowly becoming better at using magic. Harry's involvement with Spider-Man will eventually bring him under the scrutiny of SHIELD, who will recognize his style of magic. Not only will this force Lily to interact with the organization that killed her husband, it is probable that Nick Fury will force both her and Harry to face enlistment or deportation. Finally, despite that his powerbase was shattered, the wraith of Voldemort is still in Europe, with his 5 horcruxes anchoring his soul in England.

As for pairings, if I were to write this (which I won't), I'd be very tempted to make it Harry/Gwen Stacy. It would be at the author's discretion to see if Harry's presence would lead to Gwen surviving Carnage, although it would be nice to see a version of Gwen Stacy live past her High School graduation.

This so much. I'd actually decided to write something along the same vein, but put it off till I've got more experience with writing. Basically, I'd totally read the shit out of it.

I'd read the shit out of that. :) Although you'd have to reconcile the many DC afterlives and concepts (Heaven, Hell, Hades, Tartarus, Limbo, Spirit World, Death -Endless-, Nekron/Black Lanterns etc...), it'd be a good read.

May I ask specifically why, Ultimate Spiderman and not the regular one. Peter Parker happens to also be dead in the Ultimate universe and therefore Miles Morales, is Spiderman. Also by making it take place in the Ultimate universe you lose access to arcs like Planet M, which would fit in for a start if that villain is Magneto.

    Two reasons primarily.

    1) The Ultimate-verse has a shorter history, so it's slightly easier for an author to diverge from it.

    2) I just read the first 40 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man. I haven't read Amazing Spider-Man since the Clone Saga (which I hated).

Alright then, I personally thought the more recent sagas were great, such as Spider Island. I also just starting reading Marvel during the recent Fear It's Self arc, so I can't really speak for earlier arcs except for House of M, which I bought digitally.
