I have no steam on this computer. What's all this about mate?

 

Problems with the DC universe, is only the Batman characters are really worth a piss. Superman's been screwed with so much, and his enemy's are all laughable save for Doomsday and sometimes Lex. Wwho at one point because the President didn't he?) Wonder Woman's stuff has always been shit, Green Lantern I stopped paying attention to as a kid because it was just random garbage throw together.

If they can make it so it's a clone of the other super hero games already out, fine, but if they really rely on the mentor aspect, the super hero/super villian you're a protege of, I cant see how it'd have lasting gameplay. The article on it in PC Gamer this month makes it seem really uninteresting. As long as they make it a good game, and only use the mentor role as an occasional gimmick it might work. Depend too heavily on it, and you're just a sidekick.

 

Marvel is Iron Man and Spiderman and Thor and the X-Men and Punisher and The Hulk and Captain America and the Fantastic Four and so on.

DC is Batman.

Therein lies the problem.

 

Of them all, I think X-Men lends itself best to a MMORPG.

A DC universe MMORPG is just going to be stupidly overrun with heroes. X-Men, on the other hand, is meant to have lots of people with superpowers. It'd be interesting as well if everyone's power was unique in some (small) way, and character development focused on finding new ways to use that one power.

 

I think part of DC's problem is so many of their super heroes were written to be just stupid overpowered, that they've always had trouble developing good baddies for them to go against. Superman should of wrecked Lex's shit a bagillion times over by now, Batman would of built his own goddamned Asylum since they break out of Arkham literally every single week, Flash... hell I can't even remember any of his enemies.

Batman's the best they got, because he's an average guy, and they have to write him well to make him work, but even he has major issues that make actually following his universe cringe worthy.

 

Well, he did build a Batcave under Arkham Island. So... partial credit?

Gotta agree, I looked it up and haven't heard of any of the fuckers. Except maybe Murmur, but I've got no idea where I heard of him from.

 

I'm pretty sure there is a thread about this already (since it was me who started it).

Haven't had a chance to play, but from what I heard about beta tests they made it a generic MMO only with superheroes, so as much as a love DC, I will pass (especially when you need to pay monthly).

Still waiting for single player, Baldur's Gate style RPG from either DC or Marvel.

 

Try Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2, as well as Xmen Legends 1 and 2, all those games were awesome, especially Ultimate Alliance

 

You know, I had a lot of doubts about the game, but honestly, its pretty fuckin epic, brah.

Combats pretty simple, but at the same time, not so much so or so repetitive that it gets old. Ive played about seven hours and am up to level 8.

Even has a built in VOIP. Not tried it so I cant tell you if it sucks balls or not.

Pretty good amount of character options too.

Yeah, I'm downloading it right now on steam. The gameplay videos from Total Halibut sold me on it: combat looks like it's so much fun! Even if I don't pick up a subscription, I think I'll get my money's worth out of it.

 

Dunno when you bought it, but pre-orders got a free month of play. After its like $15 a month. So far, its worth it.

Its very obviously designed for a controller, but it works fairly well without...

Also: Fuck Yah. Mah Villain is named Hivemind. No misspellings or numbers. I AM HIVEMIND, FOOLS! Thats ... not so awesome, but I still am excited.

 

That's what I meant: the free month will be worth the money I paid for it.

Joker is also the best mentor, bar none.

Just picked it up due to how awesome this looks. Will update when I've actually made a character. Most likely going to make a Mental or Magical character.

Also, can't decide whether to have Lex or the Joker as my mentor. I mean, Lex is cool and all, but having your game narrated by the Joker is just awesome.

 

I made a frost giant magic character and it's pretty fun. I'm addicted to creating new characters, though, so I doubt I'll get to the meat and potatoes of the game anytime soon. >.<

 

Holy crap, this game is obscenely fun. My character is Mental+Energy Blasts+Acrobatics; can't wait to get the grappling hook at level nine (currently level 8.)

Ended up choosing Lex as my mentor and I'm kind of regretting it. Oh well.

 

Yeah, Circe and Lex suck. Joker, by far, is best mentor in the game. Hero or Villain.
