"Shinigami Harry" I thought this was a Mononoke crossover. Not fucking Bleach! You were getting my hopes up. >_<

I stopped reading the Bleach manga pretty early. Whenever a manga/anime writer runs out of plot and starts to spread his story out using a 'fighting tournament' device, it has failed. That's where I stopped reading it. It was alright before then though.

The first idea: Meh. It's following the basic pattern of Bleach with Harry in the protagonist's (whatever his name was) role. Can't I just read Bleach, change everyone's names to HP ones and get a similar story?

Harry's 'saving people thing' is not what draws him to explosions, it's curiosity and excitement. Nobody stabs themselves in the gut with a sword. Nobody. Harry is 'a hero', not 'an hero'.

I'm sure there are major cities closer to Hogwarts (which is in Scotland), than London. Why does he go there to fight every time?

Second idea: Having Harry killed by Voldemort early is... actually quite inspired.

The rest of it is pretty 'meh' though. Is it my imagination or are you following the basic Bleach plot again. It seems like you're using the latter half of it instead of the first half you're using in the first idea. That's just from my impression of the latter Bleach plot from the comments I've seen scattered around forums for a while. I could be wildly wrong.

The plot of having Harry slowly progress up through ranks of Shinigami and coming back to deal with Voldemort seems pretty boring. And it involves a lot of Bleach characters and background. I don't care about that. If you want use this plot, then you might be better off doing a time skip from Voldemort's point of view. Show Harry getting killed by V's AK, and then jump to 5 years later, show us a view of the Wizarding World with an absent Harry (highlighting the differences without Harry to thwart him), and then have Harry return.

Harry might be better off returning as a Hollow rather than a Shinigami. That'd be interesting. Also, keep Harry as a Horcrux. That's a plot device and point of conflict which you can actually work with rather than abandon.

I don't know what it is about Bleach that keeps me hooked. The fights are pretty good but repetitive, the characters don't show that much depth, the plot is predictable, yet I can't stop watching it. It's far from being a perfect anime, and it's not even a really good one like Cowboy Bebop (for one example), but in it's own way it's addicting. I just wanted to put this out there because Harry Potter has been crossed over with pretty much everything under the sun except Bleach.

Not really. I mean in the beginning yes, but I was thinking that when Harry returns to Hogwarts for OOTP after his summer of Hollow hunting and Order avoiding/deceiving, the conflicts mostly arise from OOTP's plot, with some Bleach elements in it (the main one of course is Harry being Shinigami and fighting Hollow every now and then and keeping the teachers and students from finding out).

I was just using Hermione's words from OOTP. This is more accurate because I really do hate Harry's character in canon. After being treated like shit for his whole life he should have been ambitious, devious, and only looking out for himself, rather than the pussified, lazy, curiosity (but not about magic of course) driven Harry in canon.

And the stabbing himself in the gut thing is the really only believable way to turn Harry into a Shinigami since it already happened in episode 1 or 2 of Bleach. Also, the motivation for taking Rukia seriously is that they both were in mortal danger, and she briefly explained that mortal magic doesn't work on Hollows, and stabbing himself with the sword (and becoming a Shinigami) is the only way both would survive the ordeal. If you put it like that, there's ample motivation to trust her on that.

Good point. I was merely using London because he starts out hunting Hollows around London, and the fact that I don't really know any big cities in northern Scotland.

Thanks. Most people on DLP wouldn't like the second scenario really because if you follow this one it's basically Harry is inserted into Bleach (through dying), becomes powerful, and comes back to the wizarding world to kick ass later. This one would obviously be more centered on the Bleach universe, and one would have to be a really big fan of Bleach to try to pull this one off. Also, it would take a great author to try this one without sucking.

I was imagining more like if Harry was Hitsugaya (a genius, or natural talent) and following a plot that is off screen from the main story we see in bleach, and merely referred to in a quick 3 minute segment (I recall there being a flashback in the Soul Society arc which shows Hitsugaya before he goes to the Shinigami school).

This is a good idea if you aren't a huge fan of Bleach and want to cut around the story of him rising through the ranks in Soul Society, which some people would consider boring, and get straight to the part of him returning to the wizarding world. The fic I had in mind as I was imagining this was Frozen Sky, one of the best Bleach fics on FF.net, where it shows Hitsugaya rising up through the ranks, a believable progression of power, and the relationships he forms with his fellow Shinigami and the various captains. Easily my favorite Bleach fic.

Yeah. I didn't even consider this. You could go with Arrancar!Harry, and have him being sent on missions to the wizarding world by Aizen, and leaving a wake of destruction, etc. This is only one possible plot with Hollow!Harry or Arrancar!Harry. I'm not the author here, merely the one trying to stir up ideas and suggestions if someone does want to take up this challenge.

Ignoring the Rukia element for previously noted reasons...there is another way; a better way. The method you've described with the sword is how someone becomes a substitute Shinigami, running on borrowed power. You want Harry to become a real Shinigami.

How? Activate the latent power within him, of course! But how does he do that? Simple. Something happens, at some point, that knocks Harry into a near-death state, leaving him sitting outside of his body with the chain connected. Something else happens - the hollow, most likely - and that chain is severed! Harry is killed by a wicked twist of fate...

And, in his desperation, avoiding the monster (now that the chain is severed), he activates the power within him, rather like how Ichigo activated his own. Harry activates his real Shinigami power. He defeats the hollow, and because of his Shinigami transformation, is able to return to his body, no longer dead (however Ichigo did it, I don't know).

He goes to school, and starts hearing a voice, his Zanpakutou. He eventually calls out its name - probably in desperation - and manages to activate his Shikai. Whatever that is, the author decides. Eventually, he figures out Bankai, and so on, and so forth. Maybe he gets Vaizard powers, too; up to the author.

Eh, I'd buy an accidental stabbing instead. Rukia's sword is flung away in the furious fight and spears bystander-Harry in the gut. Or, in the heat of battle, Harry tries to interfere and gets himself sliced wide open. Or, perhaps it's all a plot by a third party and the hollow or shinigami intentionally stabs Horcrux!Harry.

I don't really have anything else to add.

Edit: Oh, wait. Sirius returns as a Hollow. That Veil is whack, yo.

Great idea though I thought that only worked for Ichigo because he had inherited Shinigami powers from his father buried deep inside him (remember the scene with all those boxes, and Ichigo had to choose the right one?). To do this you would have to explain that either Harry's father, or someone further down the line had been a Shinigami, or you would have to come up with a plot device. I mean, I highly doubt everyone has the potential to become a Shinigami, and it only takes your Soul Chain being cut (and overwhelming the Hollow) to bring them out. The author could probably explain it with a plot device, but I can't figure out how to get around that at this moment besides having James or someone else from the Potter line being a Shinigami.

If the intentional stabbing is too 'out there', then accidental transference of power from Rukia to Harry is acceptable.

hah. That would be crazy. Perhaps the veil is a portal to Hueco Mundo, and everyone who is sent through ends up being eaten by Hollows, thus becoming a Hollow themselves? Hollow!Sirius comes back to the mortal world and brutally massacres Bella and a few Death Eaters, and it's up to Harry to reluctantly dispatch his godfather before he kills innocent people? That would be a helluva scene.

They never explained why Hitsugaya had the potential. You really don't need to explain why Harry has the potential, only show that he does. Explanations are nice, though not always necessary; this is one of those cases where the latter is true. The boxes thing...I did not think about that one.

Personally, I think that the transfer only works when Rukia's willing. Ichigo took more energy than expected, but then, she opened her powers up to him, not expecting that to happen, and it did.

    Shinigami(or Vaizard)!Harry vs Hollow(or Arrancar)!Sirius? Do want.

That's true. It's different though because Hitsugaya was either born in Soul Society, or he died and crossed over. I think it might have been explained in the 1 or 2 flashbacks pertaining to him, but I can't remember. There really isn't any particular reason someone would have potential and someone else would not. We know that the Soul Society is pretty big, and the Shinigami are only a small portion of the population. I agree then that the author either wouldn't have to explain it, or could come up with a relatively simple plot device, or explain that Harry's great, great grandfather John Potter was a Shinigami, and the power skipped generations and manifested in Harry.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. So I guess if you were to go that route, you would have to have Harry become a Shinigami like Ichigo by borrowing her powers through the sword.

I so want to see this. It could be kind of like the recent battle between Rukia and Aroneiro (sp?), the Arrancar that took Shiba Kaien's form and tricked Rukia. Sirius would attempt to trick Harry, but would reveal himself eventually like the Arrancar did to Rukia, and thus an epic battle commences where Harry has to destroy Sirius or be destroyed himself.
