Also, at the end of Deathly Hallows, during the battle of Hogwarts, the only people who opposed the dark army of Voldemort are the members of the OOTP, students above 15 years of age and few civilians.

What the fuck were Aurors and Hitwizards doing when the castle is under attack???

Yes, I know that the ministry has fallen and the minister is a death eater, however, aren't there people in the Auror Corps who would atleast fight for what is right and protect children??

The logic (what there is of it) was that by mangling a horcrux with a bit of necromancy, Dumbledore would be able to bind Voldemort's soul to an ageless, limbless body to be housed indefinitely in Nurmengard. Since Voldemort will continue to exist and cannot die (in other words, he's been granted his fondest desire), this turn of events doesn't qualify as truly "vanquished" in the sense of the prophecy. This is different from canon, where Harry is to be the one to defeat Voldemort completely by destroying his soul components and then Voldemort himself.

I've always thought Dumbledore's past with Grindelwald would have led to his delving into all sorts of exotic dark magic and, like virtually all other aspects of magic, he would master them. I admit that the story was a bit of a curb-stomp, but then after he was pushed past the point of self-restraint, I suspect it would have been had Dumbledore's dark arts abilities been on par with his competency in others aspect of magic.

Incidentally, Dumbledore's ability to dodge spells by vanishing and reappearing elsewhere is canon from that fight. Also, his spells in canon were sufficiently powerful as to be felt from a distance.

I always marvel at how many people forget this part of DH - maybe it's because it wasn't in the movie, where Slughorn was sidelined and the Slytherins sent to the dungeons, whereas in canon they went and got reinforcements:

I see families and friends of Hogwarts and the shopkeepers and homeowners of Hogsmeade. No mention of the Aurors though. ;)

    Meanwhile at the Aurors' Headquarters.

"Quick! We must go!" Shouted the younger Auror.

"Where?" Asked one of the older Aurors that were playing cards.

"There is a battle at the Hogwarts. They fight against You Know Who!"

"Ahh, you are talking about that. Leave it, kiddo, it's none of our business."

"What? Aren't our job to fight dark wizards?"

"Listen, if there is one thing I learned in this job it's to not come between the Dark Lord and whoever is fighting him. We will sit there, wait for the winner and round up the losers. That way nobody can say we didn't do anything and we are not risking betting on the wrong side."

    "But..."

"No buts. If you want go watch the fireworks and call us when they are done."

The younger Auror looked at this colleges with clear disappointment on his face and then Disapparated.

"Rookies," said the older Auror to his friends and they all laughed.

If that is the case, I don't see Harry Potter becoming an Auror. The Harry Potter portrayed by JKR in canon would never join the Auror Corps.

Did JKR mention anywhere that Harry became an Auror???

If Harry Potter ever went into politics, the Aurors who were playing cards when students were dying would be in for one hell of a ride.

I'd guess Voldemort's ministry culled any aurors who though fighting against Voldemort was a good idea (at least those they caught), so at the final battle the only aurors were those on the "dark side".

There really wasn't any organized resistance in the DH that we know of. The public just more or less blindly obeyed Voldemort's ministry until Harry came to Hogwarts and the professors finally decided it was a good idea to not to let the Carrows do what they wanted.

The lack of resistance after Voldemort was able to kill Scrimgeour is just sad.

I agree. Honestly, even if the only good thing to come out of this thread was that, I think it was worth slogging through all the Syed-wannabes.
