I find it weird that you didn't attempt to address my points as wrong before you added me to the ignore list.

All right, I've been watching this whole politics debate, and for once, I'm agreeing with Taure here. Politics is an intrinsic part of Harry Potter, and the study of power gets very interesting if taken with a human element.

However, I'm also going to agree with enembee and kmfrank here and say that many HP readers don't give a flying fuck about politics or know enough about politics to write said fic properly. Maybe that's why if I compare my heavily politically inclined fic Renegade Cause to something of comparable size that's romance or slash, I find my fic having far less reviews/reads. Now, admittedly that probably has more to do with my writing style or characterization choices than anything, but the fact remains that if I made it a Harry/??? romance story, I'd probably get six times the reads and eight times the reviews.

But I'm going to take the position that I'm writing for myself, not for my readers. I write because I love it, it's a great way to let off steam (along with a good hard run and a couple glasses of rye on ice), and I love telling a story. It's disappointing when you don't get the same volumes of reviews that fangirl stories will accumulate, but the folk that do read a political/legal story are typically those in the fandom who are smarter, more well-read, and who give longer, more intelligent reviews.

Although I will slightly disagree with Andro here, as a well-written believable OC can occasionally work in terms of the plot, or a character so rarely seen that they can effectively be called an OC.

So ray, I guess the thing you're complaining about is the relative lack of 'geo-political' fics in the HP fandom. I'm inclined to disagree. Go read Renegade Cause or Joe's Wastelands of Time or Bexis' Harry Potter and the Fifth Element (all relatively well-written stories) and tell me that there aren't fics with geo-politics.
