[bornagainpenguin holds up the four books in the Harry Potter series] Have you actually read these?

I know its become a staple to the point of cliche but really there's a reason for the cliche of the wizarding populance as sheeple. Because they @#%$ are!

Book I: Hero of the Wizarding World!
    Book II: Heir of Slytherin!
    Book III: Childish Decived Troublemaker!
Book IV: Attention Seeking Lying Brat!

[tries to kick Books V and VI behind him but fails]

    Book V: Lying Insane Troublemaker!
    Book VI: Our Conquering Hero!
    Book VII: #@%& Unreadable ####

...So would you like to rethink that statement?

--bornagainpenguin (who wonders if he's been reding the right books?)

PS: I too am wondering WTF is up with 'Uncle Voldemort' but quite frankly the Wizarding population as seen in the Harry Potter books are a bunch of over-bred idiots. I'm hoping that some day JKR (if she doesn't screw it up...) will write about an intelligent wizarding\magical community, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Oh you have been reading the right books,, but have you been seeing every point of view? That’s another matter altogether.

Maybe it's easier for me to se, mainly because I’m currently living in a country that is so very similar to what JKR portraits the Harry Potter universe as. SWEDEN.

An every day Swede just has this image that they are so much better than the rest of the world.(because they happened to be ontop on many things say 50 years ago) And they really believe it (some unconsciously) just like 'wizards and witches does'. It’s a closed in society that welcome 'the foreigners', or in other words 'the mud bloods', from countries that actually seen their fair taste of poorness.

But do they really welcome them, or is it just image?
You live in the US right? If you se the American flag outside someone’s home, could it offend anybody? In Sweden it does, doesn't matter if you're a 'pureblood', 'mudblood' or a 'half blood' like me but there is this eerie feeling you get when you walk passed a house with the flag up.

I'm not saying that Sweden is this racist country, because even if it exist, you don’t se it everywhere. Or well you get my point…

And then we have Fudge who is in many ways very similar to Göran Persson (our beloved *snort* minister). Why do people vote for them? One thing they play image, second is because it’s what ppl always have done. They are the ones that has been running the country for years so why shouldn’t they continue? OK maybe he hasn’t fulfilled all his promises or next to nothing of them but hey, it works, doesn’t it? In truth, it doesn’t.

My point is, that no matter how idiotic, jeleous and selfish people may seem, they are still people and have an ounce of intelligence even if their morals are all screwed up or if they are just too blinded to see the truth.

Phew I could go on forever but this is getting so long…

It's easier to write a story and setup heros/protagonists if these heros/protagonists exist in the backdrop of mediocridy.

And what exactly was it in the story that makes you think it made wizards and witches dumber/stupider/more ignorant etc. than they are in canon? Just wondering since I thought that part of it was ok.

I think we're missing each other in the discussion by talking about two different things. As individuals I'd say that most of the Wizarding world aren't all that bad and its only the 'bad apples' who get most of the attention. Individually people are good. However when you put them in a crowd or groups then suddenly whatever intelligence or morals they have decline in dramatically in huge percentages.

You asked if they (the wizards in the story) were cattle, may answer is that going by the books I'd say yes because as a group they have a tendancy to stampede just like cattle all of them following whomever is in front of them. While it might be possible to sit people down and individually confront them with facts and datum eventually changing their minds or not by virtue of their own thoughts, in general the Wizarding populance (like all large groups of people regardless if they are a minority in a larger majority) are cattle incapable of making rational decisions and tending to believe who ever has the loudest voice.

Hell, even Mrs Weasley was beginning to believe the Daily Prophet and she already knew them for liars and had members of her family who worked in the Ministry--she of all people should have known better than to believe the Daily Prophet mindlessly-- if its capable of being used as a political tool of the Ministry then it stands to reason its been used before and will be used again as such -- and yet she still thought evilly of Hermoine based on the articles in the paper in GOF.

As for the rest of your comments, I apologize but you lost me quite a bit there. I'm not sure what the flag (which flag--US or Sweden's?) had to do with anything and if anything much of your comparisions of Sweden to Wizarding Britian looked as if we were in agreement more than disagreement...

I agree,, my earlier comment of heards, cows and IQ next to nothing - i meant absolutely nothing or in other words that ppl seemed very 2D as some reactions were very slow or nonexistant.

They weren't quite painted as real human beings that was what I was trying to get at - though it seems my words failed me.

    And when you wrote
I took it as if you meant that only wizards and witches were 'that stupid' and their idiocity was near infernal. So sorry for the missunderstanding.

P.S. I meant the swedish flag.

I dunno... I like Cuddly Uncle Voldie :)

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside ya know?

It also makes me want to write Harry/Voldemort Slash with a Ginny/Basilisk sub-plot.

    Who shod we vote for?

Piccaboo! You say that all of Sweden is like the sheep of the wizard world.
I don’t think it’s only Sweden that got lousy government representatives. I’m Swedish to by the way and I don’t trust the left wing or the right or the cent for that mater. So who am I supposed to vote for? Any way I don’t think Sweden is the only countries that have useless ppl on the top. Name one country that has a government that you can respect! I can think we can surmise it like this all politicians are useless any way and we are stupid to vote for them. I found a good quote once it went somewhat like this “Democracy is a stupid way to run a country but it’s far better then anything we tried before”. Until we fined a way to make a utopia we going to have to live with what we got.

its a decent idea. it definitly could have been played out better though. everyone being super wizards/witches isnt very fun. i mean what would be the chances that all those heirs would be gathered at random and all be willing to follow a darker path. it isnt reasonable. i havent read this fic but from what im reading from the reviews here it doesnt sound very apealing maybe when im bored ill get around to reading it

Oh my god, wow, this was VERY disappointing. When I read Ip82's summary I though this was actually going to be a half way decent fic with a nice length. Instead I get 11 yr olds performing rituals naked. The ron bashing was okish. Im wondering now How the hell did this get past FOR REVIEW section. Was'nt just disappointing it was actually bad.
2/10-at least the author wrote a lot of words.

As an added bonus, chapter two (posted in July) makes the leap from naked ritual fingerpainting to full out child porn. And still no sign of an antagonist, or a plot. Very disturbing.

I couldn't bring myself to read the recently posted chapter three.

Haven't read the fic yet, I'll give it a try later and edit afterwards, but I thought I'd mention that based on the initial outline IP82 posted it sounds kinda similar to Jon3776's Chessboards of Light and Dark, only with less plot and more child porn.

Semi-OT comment regarding the "Oh, and you're the heir to Nimue's second cousin on her mother's side" thing:

Since I have little to no writing talent myself, I'll toss out this bunny for y'all to skin and otherwise torment: the Bloodline spell/ritual, much like the four Houses at Hogwarts, serves a most valuable purpose for the wizarding* society; it helps to pigeonhole young malleable minds into easily defined roles, making it easier for the PTB to use them.

    * I really, truly despise the word "wizarding" as it's used in JKR's books et al. The only thing that comes close to it is "-magus". For the luvvaGahd, the English language has stolen from virtually every language on Earth; find a fucking synonym.

Drake's story is similar to mine because they both come from the same challenge. Drake posted the challenge on PP3 and later decided to take up his own challenge. I thought the story was a neat way to explore Dark!Harry so I started a version on my own.

Last I heard it's not abandoned. Check the message history on Potter's Place 3. It seems like every few weeks someone asks Drake when he'll update. Used to be every other day. So kinda like Thalarian's story on this board...

Oh and ivbeenviolated, do remember to use capital letters when formatting your posts. And it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more something substantial to say if you're going to unearth a nine-month old fic thread. Necroing in the library is welcome and encouraged, but just to ask a question you could easily determine on your own is stretching the limits of a worthwhile post.
