That is assuming the author is keeping with any point of reference after the first film. That is the only movie that has been mentioned specifically in the author notes, and while an attack on the school did occur in the second film, the attacker and the purpose behind it was different. Hence no reference to William Striker and his pursuit of Cerebro.

Speaking bluntly about the second film, it wasn't total crap, not like the third. And the introduction of Nightcrawler was excellent, and Mystique's escape plan was great to watch, but as a whole it had its issues. Still, I bought it. But it was the first film that really captured my interest in the massive world of X-men and really it created opportunities for an interesting world to play in.

Broke down and had to comment. Love the discussion, some really smart comments here, loved those who really took the fic apart and called me on some of my stuff.

For some reason I was expecting a little more grand way of confessing magic. It was rather dull to me, but hey, maybe that's what you were going for. I was half expecting Xavier to mind read Harry, successfully this time, but hey, there's a reason I'm not the author as I'd most likely suck.

Personally, this is the type of reaction I'd be expecting. X-Man, while fantastical, still tries to root itself in science. Magic is unheard of. So when Harry says he can do magic, its not very likely that X will take it at face value. It's kinda funny watching Harry drag it out actually. Better to let the shock wear off before he really throws down the big stuff, like transfigure Wolverine into a real wolverine or something.

I don't like where this is going. Harry is a veritable god amongst mutants, and instead he's being slotted in to Mutant High like any other kid, being manipulated by the headmaster and willingly giving up blood samples. And it looks like he's going to be taking normal classes, too.

This is going to take a pairing with Mystique or Harry going batshit over the psychic manipulation and taking out Xavier to pull out of the nose-dive.

Pairing with Mystique? Taking out Xavier? Pass. That's when I pull out of this story.

Harry doesn't want to be a god or draw attention to himself. That would include Magneto and the like. He's here because the thought of alternate dimensions, meeting his parents or Sirius, or just getting away from his home dimension was the idea. Remember, he has no idea of the politics or current events in this new world.

Besides, blood samples is nothing considering they are offering free room and board. Plus, he has new friends. He's at mutant high by choice, not force, and Dumbledore/Snape had their psychic manipulations too. Compared to them, Xavier is freakin' tame.

And Xavier is also freakin' boring. Harry's quest for normalcy can go fuck itself. I want something interesting happening, not high school politics with a side of Wolverine playing the father figure.

Agree to disagree then. Dumbledore and Xavier have a lot of similar parallels that aren't going to be ignored.

Plus, if you read the earlier chapters, Harry is done with Voldemort and his fame in general. Normalcy is what he's after (as part of the story and his character), so if you have a problem, you might be setting yourself up for a disapointment. Interesting will happen at the authors pace.

I think Wolverine acting like a uncle or something is actually something interesting. Especially since he shows that side to Rogue (In the movies anyway.) I'd like to see how the author gets to writing this.

Some degree of high school politics is necessary - mainly because Harry himself is still in HS. While I loathe it when authors drag out plot lines (magic mutant?) while they are updating it - I do tend to enjoy those dragged out plot lines when I am reading a complete storyline.

I liked this chapter, but not enough really happened for me to love it compared to the previous chapters. Della, you're still maintaining your excellent writing, but here's to hoping for a tad more forward momentum in the next chapter!

You haven't really done anything in your story either, Kensington. Update, bitch. :p

Love the story, della. 4/5 here, would be a 5/5 but your Harry is kinda pussyish and emo in my opinion.

@Goddessa39: The gene that makes a human a mutant is the X-Gene, not the M-Gene (hence X-Men). I'm pretty sure the M-gene was something nonjon made up for his fic "Browncoat, Green Eyes" (though the idea of a magic gene referred to as the M gene might have been around before).

I wouldn't say Magic is directly comparable to the X-Gene, the X-Gene allows for an almost limitless amount of different mutations, and these unfailingly occur at some point during puberty (unless you're a killcrop like Jamie Madrox, but I digress). Though one should be wary to avoid using fanon inventions such as the Hogwarts registrar that detects magical births to substantiate a theory, one indisputable sign that children are Wizards is accidental magic, which can occur well before puberty in young witches and wizards. Thus the differences between magical ability and X-Gene caused mutation seem profound.

    Heartily seconded.

    Anywho, great update, 5/5.

The funniest thing about realising this had been updated was that I became aware of this fact as I was checking ffa.net, and noticed that Bobmin had updated his enormous pile of shit X-Men crossover.

    Jean is Harry's Aunt = Insta-fail.
Harry incapacitating loads of black-ops troops = excellent.
Actually I’m a sucker for Harry on a flying bike as well, but lets keep that to ourselves shall we?

QFT. And a nice update, Della, if dense with back-story. (It probably means we'll get a dose of action next chapter though, so I'm still happy).

Regarding Bobmin's: By last chapter, we could see that the tracks were in bad shape and the train was rounding the crest of the hill. This chapter, we see the bridge out, the brakes shot, and they're picking up steam. Bobmin practically invented "so stupid and unlikable you want to shake the author"!Ron and they've been perfecting it in every story. Their Dumbledore never learn his lesson--each time he gets caught red-handed. I predict that some place in their story, Ron will forget to breathe and keel over, dead; Dumbledore will trot out his "greater good" speech (along the lines of, "What's good for the goose is greater for the gander. Bend over, Harry"). There'll be teenage blow-ups and glorious emo moments. And then super!Harry will do his thing, but we'll all have been too tired to have read that far.

While Tehan hates the blood test, it wasn't exactly something Harry could easily opt out of, given the circumstances, and Xavier was doing his compulsion during their conversation. In many ways, Harry's better off knowing whether he tests positive for the X-gene. He's keeping the option of leaving open, so any additional information can only help him if he exercises the option.

I'm intrigued by what they'll find. There's no reason DNA should bear out magical ability--for instance, it's plausible for it to ride along on mitochondrial RNA. It would be interesting to see what they'd do with Harry if his DNA were to not contain the X-gene.

Nice chapter, Della. But after a heavy dose of intrigue and character/plot development, I'm looking forward to stuff blowing up.

And even if it were a gene, since they don't know what they're looking for it would be unlikely that they'd just come across it and say "Oh, look at this - it must a gene for magic".

I'm kinda surprised that they don't have some of Harry's blood already, since he's already been unconscious in their mini-hospital several times. If there's one thing I've learned about hospitals and doctors, it's that they always take a blood test. No matter what problem you have. Broken your leg? Blood test. Got a headache? Blood test. Accompanying your drunk friend to the hospital? Blood test.

You must be mistaken my friend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRvk-CnXYhI.

The whole little bit at the end reminded me of it.

I liked the update. Still giving me slight nerd rage over the mispelled names, but I get over it.

Well, when he was in the British prison, he had an impervious charm on his own skin so any needles they used couldn't get through. Maybe the charm is still going?

Or the X-Men are just being careful/respectful of his body. With mutants, you never know just what could happen. He could have acid blood that would melt the syringe for all they know.

Now THAT - would be awesome to see in a story.

    As far as this goes..

I'm not sure why others questioned it, but I did because of the comment that three chapters had been written and that was it. It's a common accurance to see fanfic writers squirt out a decent beginning(especially because of plot-bunnies), become overwhelmed by the amount of work needed, and quickly run out of juice. I'm happy to see that this isn't the case - as I said before, I like this fic.

And after reading Nonjon's recommendation of your other fic, I'm liking the potential of it even more.

As you noticed, Della's already written a 100k-word story to completion. Unlike with most failed starts, I suspect she won't be too surprised by what's required to finish this one.

:) Yeah, I've had that pointed out a time, or two, or more..since I made the comment about wondering if she'd finish.

I had to reread the London trip. My brain feels bogged with what little college I've begun. New chapter was a good thing for me-it seems like there are so few updates on things lately.

Mystique is being Rogue? Or what?
