Whatever their origins, the cloak is weak sauce compared to the others. The elder wand is a uber-powerful wand that can do things no other wand can and makes you unbeatable (or at least extremely hard to defeat). The resurrection stone allows you to talk with the dead.

The cloak is just a regular invisibility cloak that doesn't wear off

Oh, I know they probably weren't made by Death itself, my point with that was that it was supposed to make the user completely undetectable, which was clearly false.

It is rare yes, but you would think that at least there was some documentation of it. I would think that at least the wandmakers would warn the people who buy a wand, that it might have complications with other wands. To be honest the wands have such a long history, that you would think that their limits and other effects would be properly written down and studied.

And I know wizards don't duel all the time (They may have done that a lot in the past, but I think HP-world is a bit more civilized from those days), but it still happens a lot, especially if you are an auror and go after dark wizards and witches.

Yeah, it isn't exactly easy to even write it properly, most writers that I have seen pull that off have simply turned the new wands into another "Elder Wand"-clone.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that, but in my defense I wasn't all that impressed with the last two books so it's no wonder that I don't remember every detail of them.

Well the wand is more likely simply a reflection of the persons talents, but I actually would have liked to see that fleshed out more. I mean nobody should be able to excel at every subject, they should be weak in some or not be able to perform that branch of magic at all. That would actually balance things out a bit more. For example someone not being able to use transfiguration or charms at all.

It's a lot like the whole magical core and magical exhaustion -thing. Most people here hate it, but I think it has some merit. If wizards and witches don't tire from constant magic use, then it obviously makes the magic users too powerful. I mean it is hinted that the magical power comes from within so it has to have some limits, it simply can't be an unlimited river that never runs out.

I still like the idea of wands and magic in HP. It's better than the D&D -wizards, who basically have to relearn each spell after they've cast it once. The actual D&D -rules state you have slots for spells of each level and you can use several slots for the same spell if you want to use it more than once. Not to mention the fact that D&D -spells have ridiculously long incantations and require a number of items for the casting. Talk about slow and tedious.

What I meant was that most good wizards would not go to any means necessary to obtain the wand. Dark/Evil Magic users would have no problem attacking Harry's family to get what they want. Plus the whole being able to kick anyone's ass thanks to a super-wand, it's not exactly something that a good person would want to do.
