Warning: This is strongly inspired by the show Prison Break, so there will be a lot of similarities.

Challenge: The story takes place in an Alternate Universe where Voldemort was supposedly defeated before Harry Potter was born. The Wizarding universe is at it's 'golden' age under the Crouch regime- But like always, Harry Potter is born with a life of sadness. Like in Canon, Harry's parents were killed and Sirius Black becomes his guardian.

Things went great for years, until one faithful day, when Harry was about 8 years old, Sirius was arrested for the murder of Severus Snape. The Wizarding world was at an uproar- Snape was considered the hero of the Wizardiworld for his part in defeating Voldemort. He was given an Order of the Merlin 1st Class for his intelligence gathering which led to countless victories for the Order and the Ministry. After what seemed to be a fair trial, Sirius was sent to Azkaban for life for the murder of Severus Snape. But befored this happened, Sirius was given the chance to talk with Harry.

Sirius told Harry that he was innocent, and Harry, suprisingly believed him. Despite how Sirius was found with the murder weapon on him, despite how many eyewitnesses saw him walking calmly away from Snape's house merely minutes after the murder, and despite how the two men had a huge fight just earlier in the day, Harry believed him. Maybe it was just him being naive, but he just knew that his father figure had never murdered anyone. Right before they took Sirius back to Harry confidently told Sirius he would break him out someday.

Fast forward many years later, Harry Potter is graduating from Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw. He is at the very top of his class and considered a prodigy in the frields of Charms and Transfiguration. He is the Head Boy, as well as an established Quidditch star who could play for the professional teams someday. But when asked by his best friend and fellow Ravenclaw Su Li what he planned on doing someday, Harry Potter's answer was that he planned on becoming a curse breaker as well as a wards expert.

Su Li asked why would he become that when he could become anything that he wanted, Harry responded that he was merely living up to a promise he made several years ago. Harry then told her that he would be immediately going to work as a wards make in the newly renovated Azkaban.

Azkaban was being renovated simply because a large percentage of the Dementors had defected into Voldemort's side and as a result of this, Azkaban was left with only a few guards. Since they saw how vulnerable Azkaban was, the Ministry was hiring several curse breakers and wards experts to make Azkaban into an impentrable and inescapable fortress. Harry was one of those people hired, and coincidentally Sirius was being imprisoned in the place.

Fast forward a few years again, and Harry Potter is put in trial for 'attempting'
to rob a small wizarding shop and he is given a choice of paying a large sum in reperations or be sent to Azkaban for merely a few months. He chose Azkaban despite how he has more than enough money to pay.

So there he was, being sent to Azkaban by boat, and as he looked back to wizarding England, Harry knew that he was leaving behind everbody he ever cared and loved for in order to break Sirius out of here. The next time his friends would see him, he would be an infamous criminal.

So anyways he is brought to the newly renovated Azkaban in which only the most dangerous criminals are guarded with the few remaining Dementors, and he is brought to his cell. Since he was one of the few people who rebuilt Azkaban as a curse breaker, he had a map of it as well as an unparrelleled knowledge on the defense mechanism of Azkaban. Left with only his wit and his guts, Harry Potter sought out to do the impossible- Breaking out Sirius Black.

But the question is how much is he willingly to do in order to break out Sirius? Is he ready to betray everyone he knows and loves in order to break out somebody who might be guilty? And most importantly, is he truly willing to do whatever it takes to make his plan succeed?

Rules/Ideas:

Harry Potter knows that in order for his escape to work he would need to get the help of several other prisoners.

Sirius is innocent- The person who killed Snape, was actually Regulus who stunned Sirius, took his wand, and killed Snape while still being under the polyjuiced guise of Sirius. He was sent by Voldemort, who was not actually defeated, to get rid of two birds with one stone- Sirius and Snape. Voldemort faked his death in an attempt to get attention away from him, and instead, he made one of his followers (Crouch) take credit for his defeat as long as he continued to follow the his orders. So given the task of defeating all of the Dark Lord's enemies, Crouch sets out to eliminate the forces of good under the guise of Ministry justice.

Pairings- The writer is free to do write a pairing, but make it het. Also make sure that it's only a side story and not an integral part of the plot.

Also if you need help, just ask me. I've already plotted out a lot of chapters, but since I'm in the process of writing another challenge of mine, just ask for some help and I'll give you my ideas for this story.

 

Unfortunately, with magic, I don't see the need to put Harry through all that shit in order to break out Sirius. Why can't he just sneak in and out, if he's such a prodigy? IMO, the one who take this challenge will have hell of a time working out mechanics of the prison break when there's magic in play.

Oh, and Snape the war hero, loved by all? Honestly, I don't see it. Better it be Dumbledore, with Snape maybe working behind the scenes on organizing the conspiracy/fighting against it/whatever.

 

it is very hard to write. the physics in muggle world enabled the tv series prison break this logical and eventful. however, with magic involved, one has to imagine tools and the like. i mean in the tv, scolfield uses many instruments, but in azkaban and with magic, it seems impossible.

 

Also since Harry had been part of the team that designed the wards and other defenses of Azkaban would he really be sent there? If he was why would they not block or erase the memories of building the wards?

Also like ulkser pointed out would it be very hard to write with trying to replace the physics and instruments with various magical devices.

What might be better is if Harry, once he graduated from hogwarts studied the newly upgraded wards and security devices of Azkaban by plans and ward designs he had stolen and found that no one exept the guards can use magic so even if the prisoners got a wand would they be unable to use it.

Have harry study in the muggle world to learn how to break Sirius out without using magic. It does not mean that muggle science is better then magic but that since most wizards are clueless about anything more then the basics of
the muggle world would they not think about defending against muggle metods...
