Essentially what the title says. Been on an Isekai kick for a bit and was wondering if anyone had come across any good Isekai HP fics? Preferably ones where the SI becomes Harry but open to whatever.

 

Not one where the SI becomes Harry, but What's Her Name in Hufflepuff by ashez2ashes is pretty good at catching some of the books' whimsy and charm. It has a DLP thread, though the story hasn't been updated since 2020.

The Google machine distills it down to universe or world hopping or some shit? Why not just say that lmao

 

As far as I can tell, it's supposed to be a general category covering Self- or OC-Insert stories. The Japanese ones usually revolve around some lame Otaku being dumped into a fantasy world of some sort where he can be awesome somehow. In the fanfic community, it is sometimes used interchangeably with "SI" or "OC-Insert", while at other times it seems to be treated as a distinct subcategory that may or may not involve the inserted character being a mind inserted into a pre-existing character's body, rather than a whole person physically transported to another universe. It's honestly a bit fuzzy, because people use the term kind of inconsistently.

As for why people say "Isekai" instead of "World-hopping"?

1) It's faster to say and type.
2) It's Japanese.
