KenderCleric's Challenge #1: Plan B

Summery:

James and Lily Potter were not idiots - they saw Dumbledore's manipulations for what they were. The problem was they couldn't figure out to what end the Headmaster's moves were taking them and why. Realizing the danger they faced not only from Voldemort but their own leader they made a backup plan.

At the center of all the danger and manipulations was their only son, Harry. In order to protect him from both Voldemort and Dumbledore the Potters backup plan was set to ensure Harry's survival should they both die. These plans were not shared with anyone for fear of either of their enemies discovering the truth.

On October 31st 1981 Voldemort attacked and the Potters died. Lily Potter's death triggered "Plan B" causing it to go into effect only moments after the rebounded Killing Curse forced Voldemort from his body.

The Challenge:

Write a story that begins prior to the attack on Godric's Hollow in 1981. The fic should detail the Potter's "Plan B" to save their son and how it changed Harry's story from canon. The fic should also explain why Dumbledore was manipulating the Potters and how Harry fit into it all.

This is meant to be a plan B that takes effect upon Lily's death and alters canon events from that point forward. Fics where the timeline remains true to canon until some point in the future when Harry gets a letter or other item do not fit this challenge.

Things to Keep in Mind:

• The Potter's plan was designed to keep Harry safe from Voldemort, Death Eaters, and Dumbledore in the event that both Lily and James died. Simply leaving a journal, enchanted item, etc. would not achieve this goal.
• Voldemort did cast AK at Harry, it did hit and rebound, Voldemort was cast out of his body, and Harry does have the scar.
• The Potter's knew there was a traitor among the Order, but did not know who it was.
• The Potter's did not share their backup plan with anyone.

Rules:

• Must be a minimum of 25,000 words.
• Must detail the Potters "Plan B" and how it worked.
• Must detail why Dumbledore was manipulating the Potters.
• Can NOT contain: Slash, Godlike!Harry, Guardian!Snape or Mentor!Snape, Vampire!Harry or other Creature!Harry, or Anime!Harry.

 

Err, there are already MANY such fics out there; Usually Lily leaving an amulet or an enchanted book, that can train and guide Harry through childhood. Stuff like that.

 

Yes, that's not really the kind of plan B I meant. Good of you to point that out. Let me update the challenge to clarify.
