KenderCleric's Challenge #23: Judgment (one-shot)

Summary:

A flash of green light.

Loss;
…a sensation which is incomprehensible to one so young.
A cold laugh;
Fear;
…an innate, instinctive emotion drawn forth by circumstances beyond reasoning.

A flash of green light.

Silence;
…a stark, all encompassing, silence that mutes even thought.
Light;
…an immeasurably bright light which washed all else from sight.
Rage;
…such an insidious, pervasive, emotion which smothered the all others.
Righteousness;
…a calling and purpose embodied by rage, empowered by light, and tempered in silence.
A child’s wail;
…a return to life and the successor to breath.

A flash of brilliant silver light.

Awe;
…grudgingly, subconsciously, felt at the sight of the impossible.
Hatred;
…like the fires of Hades does it burn in the veins.
Dread;
…surpassing logic and reflex it acts as a gravity of its own.
Pain;
…washing away all thought, and extinguishing all other feeling.

A scream of immortal suffering and pain.

Unnatural Silence.

Thin tendrils of smoke curled upward from the smoldering remains of the once mighty Lord Voldemort. Each wisp of tainted air joined the next in an oily, malevolent, fog. Green eyes stared defiantly at the vile being before them. Two beings beyond mortal understanding took one another’s measure in the hushed aftermath of history.

Suddenly the ominous, echoing, groan of powerful magic collapsing broke the quiet. Betrayal had rung through the halls of the Potter home and the once mighty protections the house hid behind, based on trust and fidelity, reached their breaking point.

An explosion of magical energy cascaded over the Potter’s home and then outward from the boundary of Godric’s Hollow as the Fidelius Charm imploded. The secret betrayed, the protections fallen, and the world once again knew where the Potter family dwelled. The house itself shuddered like a dry leaf in an autumn storm. The magical items within the home sparked like fuel to a flame in the charm’s backlash.

Godric’s Hollow was burning in the fires of betrayal.

The essence of Lord Voldemort howled in ethereal rage before escaping the home. Green eyes flashed silver in rage at the vile spirit’s departure. Judgment had been circumvented for the time being, but it would be served in due time.

…and Harry Potter waited for his rescuers.


13 years later…

Ruby, serpent shaped, eyes stared in awe and fear at what they had wrought. A new body had finally been won, but the cost was not yet totaled. The boy, supposedly weak and ignorant, had been a ruse. A clever guise behind which the only being the Dark Lord feared hid. Now, glowing silver eyes burned with righteous fury as Harry Potter broke free of his self-imposed restraints.

The time had come for Tom Riddle’s Judgment.


The Challenge:

Use the above summary as inspiration for an AU fic. The fic should answer the following questions:

1. What really happened on Oct. 31st 1981?
2. What is the "Power the Dark Lord Knows not" and how does it manifest. We see Harry's eyes turn silver, but why?
3. The story should end in the graveyard. Tell us what happened between Oct. 31st 1981 and that night.

The Rules:

1. The fic may not follow canon in regards to the events of Harry's school years. Certain concepts or events can carry over, but it should be original content. Keep in mind that the fic ends in year 4.
2. No Harry/Ginny, Slash, etc etc.
3. This is not a Super!Harry fic. You figure out what that means and how it fits into the summary and challenge.
4. It is suggested this be a one-shot, but if you think you can make it into something longer go for it.

 

Nope. Not feeling this one, Kender. At least, not as much as your other challenges.

Without going into a ton of detail, as it is getting quite late, I'll just say that your challenge is being far too indirect. There is only the slightest hint of a foundation, and no boundaries other than the basic DLP friendly recommendations against Ginny, Slash and Super!Harry.

It's just far too broad to be challenging someone with. It just seems as if you wrote something and had a fleeting glimpse of a plot and decided to find out if we could see the same thing.

And again, not to be an ass, but I just can't see it this time.

 

Nothing wrong with that. I fully admit that even I only had an sliver of a plot in mind on this one, but figured I'd toss it out incase it sparked anyone elses imagination. Being that I am only mortal (despite my occasional denials of that fact) I do manage to come up with my fair share of crappy ideas. This could be one of them. /shrug
