I’ve really enjoyed this story but the nerfing of Naruto for plot’s sake kinda chaps my ass. Yeah, sure, he’s up against a ton of mooks and 5 S-class Shinobi in Han, Sasori, Deidara, Kurotsuchi, and the missing-nin mercenary boomer, but this Naruto has fucking Mokuton, and Sage mode with Ma and Pa on his shoulders ala Jiraiya. Jiraiya who would’ve probably beaten Pain if he knew the secrets to the Paths faster. Yet, he’s still clearly getting his cheeks clapped and apparently passing out and getting kidnapped.

Even without the Kyuubi, canon wise his chakra levels should be to the point where the answer of how much he has is simply, “Yes.” If ya didn’t want the guy being capable of yeeting people, perhaps don’t fucking give him two of the most BS abilities in the lore! I’m ranting, but fuck. This story has a lot I like, but if this shit keeps going I might finally check out.

That's a fair opinion to have but I think if Kurotsuchi had participated in the fight he gets rolled because she wasn't attacking him during that 5v1 and if she hadn't saved Deidara he rolls the remaining combatants because he had them all on the ropes until his rhythm got messed up by that explosion. He was walking on a razers edge in the fight where if he fucks up once he was screwed and he did. I do agree with what you're saying to a certain extent though, rasenshuriken is still broken as shit and he didn't use it like at all.

I think the students plus itachi if she gets there in time will come and clutch the save for him though, the story supposedly only has a couple chapters left and I don't see how it ends that quickly if he's captured unless the mf adds another time skip.

Spoiler: Tobi?

So I was reading the comments and I saw some dude posting a theory about how Tobi might be Jiraiya, I think it would be an interesting twist while also removing the broken piece of shit the author hyped Obito up to be in the prologue. What's anyone else think about that one?

 

Well I just caught up on this one so I figured I’d bump the thread cuz it’s seen two updates since the last post here.

The massive multi chapter battle is still not complete but is winding down as the reinforcements arrive on the scene. This arc is wrapping up nicely imo.

In the newest chapter another front is introduced which is hectic as hell and I felt the fights were lacking comparatively to the rest of his work but I did enjoy the chapter overall and we finally really got to see some of the long term characters fight seriously for the first time and that was cool as hell.

 

Final chapter dropped today. Havent read it yet but it’ll be nice to finally see where this was all heading. Only took 420k and 9 years

 

Reread this now that it is finished. Overall enjoyed it, definitely worth reading, but there's not quite enough character building and interactions. They establish the building blocks for relationships and then skip ahead, which makes a lot of it feel unearned when you read it in one go. I can literally list them.

We're expected to believe Naruto and his genin team have a deep bond and "when our team is together nothing can stop us", but from our pov they meet, train for a few months, go to their exams, and are then split up. Even Naruto forgets about them and goes off to train Sakura/Sasuke when he gets back. They call this out, but we're not really shown them interacting a ton or going on missions together. They very much become unimportant side characters.

Gaara is one of the worst offenders because of how key his role is in the finale. Haku persuading Mei to go with it makes sense because she and Naruto meet very early, are very clearly friends then, and stay friends across many interactions across the years. But Gaara? He meets Naruto, we're shown the start of their convo, and then we cut out. Next thing we know he's Kazekage and Naruto improved his seal. And the very next scene he's in is him saving Konoha and then implementing the plan in Naruto's name. You really have to just lean into the reader's assumptions about how that friendship normally goes for it to work, which it shouldn't because he's way more in control and has better relationships with his siblings than in canon or most fanfic. I just don't see how Naruto had quite that much of an impact.

Kurotsuchi is another one that bugs me, because we see them meet, and are subsequently told they are friends. We really needed at least a few scenes of that timeskip to build it up imo, given how key a role she plays throughout the entire fanfic.

Itachi is the best example of one that really works. We get a solid foundation before time skips start happening, we always get the impression they're spending time together during them, and when we're in real time we see them interact plenty. So it's very believable.

One thing I really liked were the fight scenes, with the best scenes from them being the Mokuton/Sharingan reveal, Sarutobi dominating the Fourth Tsuchikage, Sasuke calling down Kirin, and Akane going full jinchuuriki.

Overall... I might eventually go back to skim reread and linger over certain parts I really liked, but I doubt I'll go back to it time after time.

 

Maybe I missed it, but where exactly did Naruto and Itachi's "special" abilities come from in Chapter 63. Like, I'm fairly sure they weren't mentioned at all before that chapter and then boom. Abilities.

 

Naruto's had to do with the seal he put on himself to let him channel nature chakra. Itachi's? Who the fuck knows.

 

Itachi's is never explained yeah, I took it to be some combo of Uchiha breeding finally working out and her sheer talent.

 

I just took it as a bunch of bullshit.

This entire fic felt like two or three different stories smooshed together. Entertaining, and some great scenes but a whole bunch of meh as well. 3/5
