I say if it's a separate story that stands on its own, give it a thread. Something shorter might even receive more engagement.

In light of the proposed change to increase the number of stories we put for review (which I plan to do once I've re-read some favourites), what's the rule for reviewing stories with sequels, trilogies etc.? I've seen them posted separately or together in one big review so I'm wondering what's the best way to do it.

Wait, why is there no chance of a bridge in between IRC and discord. I currently set up a basic one for a fairly active server I run and am planning an upgrade.

After some lag for the first 24 hours, these work great.

Because there is no desire for it. Its been talked about before. I honestly think its shit. I don't like the channel pollution that a bridge bot creates. I think that was the sentiment of others in the past.

Moods shift, current mood when I gave my response was that its not something that is likely to happen.

Great that it works for you. But the sentiment wasn't that its hard to do. Raven is more than capable, its that its not wanted.

I disagree with this. What an author is able to do with one story doesn't mean that sequels will be the same. For one thing, the writer is developing their craft and may not make the mistakes they did in the first work. On the flipside, sometimes a freshman work that succeeds is followed by a less-structured sophomore work, possibly because the author is continuing at reader encouragement rather than having a coherent story in mind.

The Alexandra Quick series comes to mind- the Thorn Circle had issues that were improved in later stories, and The Lands Below is much better than the Stars Above, emotionally and storytelling-wise.

If you're reccing one, you're reccing them all to some extent. Maybe give an overall series rating, and then rec each installment individually within the thread?

I legit misread the question. Fuck me right? I'd just make a post for each story. I agree with wordhammer. That's how we've done it in the past. Generally, people have made a habit in Other Fandom of posting sequels and prequels and side stories all in one thread, but reviewing them in a similar manner as Wise specified.

I'd just keep it simple. Make a thread, and if they need to be merged, modified, a staff member can fix them as they see fit, because you're essentially reviewing a different story. It seems like the implication for me would in, if you're going to review the whole series and you've only read the first in the series, you're less likely to post them for review. So yeah, just go ahead and post each story to review. If its a sequel, then you can reference it in your review and maybe contrast it to the original, etc.

Please remove Hall Of Shame. Having an actual sub forum to shame other members will scare new members away and make us DLP seen as bullies.

Also DLP has reputation of priding itself of being irrationally hostile toward slash.

I think Slash should be allowed. In this day and age where LGBT communities are fighting so hard. Not allowing Slash is deeply regressive.

I see nothing wrong with publicly flogging shaming the users who don't read the rules and get sent packing. It serves as a place to point to when we say "don't be these guys, pay attention".

Pretty sure your complaint about slash has already been debunked earlier in the thread. Today's DLP is not the old DLP where slash was burned away by orbital bombardment. Stuff's allowed if it's written well.

As a member with absolutely no actual authority, Hall of Shame isn't going anywhere. It's a record of past fuckups, and a solid way for new members to get an idea of how not to be an idiot. Perhaps you would benefit from taking a look.

I don't know why you think DLP prides itself on being anti-slash. The problem is that there just aren't many good slash fics whose content appeals to us. But given you seem to think we're against LGBT, perhaps you'd like to look at some of our past responses to posts decrying slash, like these...in the Hall of Shame forum.

The "irrational" distaste toward slash has little to nothing to do with the actual LGBT community. DLP's culture formed as a counter-culture in many ways, and it was the prevalence of slash, Harry/Ginny, and Harry/Hermione that led to a culture that disliked those elements in stories. Some people have interpreted it as a dislike of LGBT in general, and have been proven wrong in the very same Hall of Shame you mentioned. Alexeyy was criticizing a slash story because it was slash, and was baffled that DLP wasn't against it for having gay people in it. We dislike slash because the majority of slash is trash, just like the majority of fics in general are trash. Slash hasn't been against the rules as such for eight years at least.

It's theoretically possible that there is library worthy slash fiction, but I'd not bet money on there being much. Inertia is a thing as well, and DLP as a community is not interested in it as a rule. The majority of slash fiction is written by underage heterosexual girls who write it as fetish fuel rather than as something serious with objective merit. Slash is the literary equivalent of lesbian porn. Written by a demographic that is not depicted for a demographic that is not depicted, and we are a demographic that is not interested.

    tl;dr - No

The thing about DLP is we've got too much homoeroticism between users for us to be interested in slash. We need a change of pace when we read.

Ah, yes. Criticizing a shit story that's slash because it's a shit story means criticizing teh gayz. We have dismissed that claim.

    So edgy Scott.

And yeah, agree with Zombo, Raven is more than capable of that, but it's not really been a heavily requested feature.

Maybe but most people are hung up on 2010 DLP. That's all they can think about when our name is said. The only thing anyone has suggested in this thread is about irc braiding and a shout box but no one else has said anything about other topics covered in OP. Such narrow focus on culture has made me regret ever watching this thread each time I get a notification.
