    The Dark Lord Grindelwald.

This was a man who forged an army that, but for the grace of Albus Dumbledore, would have taken over the wizarding world. He was a cunning planner, a competent schemer, and an immensely powerful wizard.

Yet, even with all of his accoplishments, he was beaten by a British wizard who was only a tiny hope of the Light. His achievements undone, his power broken, his influence drained, and his army scattered to the four winds.

Don't you think he would have a plan to prevent this?

Grindelwald had discovered an artifact which was rumored to "catch" one's soul as he died. It would sustain the soul until a human came near, so that the previously dormant soul could reach out and posses the unfortunate.

He and a pair of trusted lieutenants managed to reactivate the artifact, calibrate it to catch Grindelwald's soul, and then built a large underground complex to house this device.

He then departed for the final battle, and the rest, as they say, is history.

There's just one problem. The complex was never uncovered, as Grindelwald's two followers had perished in the battle, and in it Grindelwald's soul remained trapped.

But fate is about to give the fallen Lord a chance.

For the Temple of the Soul is located beneath a subdivision that was built in the years following Grindelwald's defeat.

    Privet Drive.

Half a century after his defeat, a young wizard named Harry Potter is doing a little garden work when the flowerbed he is crouching in abruptly collapses into the earth. One wild ride later, he finds himself in a cavern faced by a magnificent stone structure.

He has nowhere else to go, so, wand gripped tightly, he advances into the temple...

    Rules:
-Use the Temple of Souls as the Prolouge. It's not the story.
-Time frame is immediately prior to fifth year.
-Grindelwald's soul is insane after decades of imprisonment. It is also lacking in power. His possesion does not have enough power to fully contain Harry, so they are forced to share the body.
-Harry cannot let anyone else find out about Grindelwald. He'll do anything to keep that under wraps.
-Grindelwald is determined to sway Harry to the dark and retake their rightful throne.
-Harry is no Superman. He has only his own power. Grindelwald can supply him with knowledge at his leisure, however.

I suppose more can come later, as it's thought of. Discuss.

    First off,

Grindelwald was defeated in 1945. Albus was already pushing 100 at that point.

Also, it might be a bit too much of a coincidence that Grindewald chose to burry his soul at Privet Drive. Wouldn't it made more sense if it gave it for safekeeping to his most faithful lieutenant [Something] Black (so it's at Grimmauld place)? Or if the unspeakables found it and locked it up in that room Harry couldn't open in OOTP? Something like that.

But other than that, I guess a plot where Harry is possessed by Grindelwald could be interesting to an extent. Not super original - after all, we've seen hundreds of fic where some dark dude is sharing Harry's body - but definitely worth exploring.

Well, actually my reasoning behind Privet Drive was the fact that in 1945, ther was a very large chance it didn't exist as it does in 1995. Plus the point is to have an enviroment where Grindelwald posses Harry is secrecy.

And true, we've seen a lot of "dark dude" fics, but in every one the dark guy is coherent and sane and willing to make Harry super in an instant.

Whe I'm talking Grindelwald, I mean completely and utterly insane. He knows his goal, and remembers his powers and knowledge, but he's a madman. He'd snap at things that would make normal people barely flinch. He's the kind of guy who ends up screaming in the wrong language at somebody who gave him bad news. He'll go from muderous to entirely calm in a second. It'd be a lot more fun than the fics where the posseser is entirely sane.
