I do agree that this is too hard to pull off without leaving some glaring plot-holes left open.

Right now, the most serious point that no one has discussed yet would be motivation. Why would Harry and bunch of purebloods want to steal money in the first place? Harry never seemed like a materialistic type and death eaters are all already too well off to risk everything on a petty thievery...

Only way to fix this, as far as I can see, would be to make this with post-Azkaban Harry (innocent, set up by the Dark Lord, Weasleys took all his money away) and bunch of Death Eaters captured in DOM, whose fortunes were also taken away by the goverment and Voldemort refused to rescue them without their financial weight. They coud get together while in Azkaban, become friends and make a plan to rob the Wizarding world blind in retaliation...

It would be hard to make the reader interested enough to read it without giving away the storyline.

If it's not difficult to pull off, why not write it? :) There you go, now you've dragged yourself into this one. :p

Thankfully I do have an out here. And it is that my "Last Words of the Boy-Who-Lived" bunny thing already includes a Harry as Lord Voldemort twist and this idea's got enough similarities I can't really do both.

Though I am tempted a bit by the "Usual Suspects Style Challenge" I went off on a tangent with.

Not to mention my current fic gets all my attention until it's done, which is probably months and months away.

Though I'm sure if we wanted to, we could knock out an outline for this fic challenge within a couple days.

The only problem with ron as a culprit if everything goes wrong is no one would believe he could do it, he's too stupid, it would have to be the other way around because hermoine is smarter (don't confuse smart with magical power either), ron is more gullible and easier to decieve..

You'll quickly find that DLP bashes Ron & Hermione all the time.

As for motivation...how about some abuse at the Dursleys? As much as I hate abuse fics, it'd give him some reason to be bitter. Or perhaps the Dursleys raised him to be more greedy and sly.

Love the idea and agree about red/hermi you should kill them.
But I think there should be a girl for Harry in a fic like this. A Slytherin that motivates him to follow through with the plan, say Daphne or Fem!Blaise.

How about, The dursleys take the money away because they are the legal guardians. Then, they get killed by voldemort, and the will goes off to random people, leaving Harry with nothing

    Awesome idea.

Harry then has a legitamate reason to screw the entire world.

If the Dursleys get the money it will go to Marge or some other muggle cousin not back to the wizarding world. I hate the fics where the Dursleys rip off Harry, I see the Dursleys as the kind of people that won't go to Gringotts in fear of goblins.

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
I have a thought. Since everyone who posted so far has all these ideas, what if we make this an entire DLP effort. Everyone tries to help and we have joint writers.

We should have done a DLP effort on the harry/saw one. That would have been awesome. But yeah, I like that idea.

Maybe a small team of writers could come up with a well-outlined plot to mount this 'everest', in a small, secluded corner of the forum.

No. One good author. Otherwise it'll turn out horrible, one big conglamerated mess. Perhaps for the plot, but definitely not for the actual story.

One author will be better. So who's writing it?

I would be much more interested by a "Usual Suspects Style Challenge" then one based on Oceans 11.

Maybe set a year after HBP with Harry being questioned by Auror's as he was found to be the only survivor among dozens of Order members and Death Eaters and Voldemort is suppoedly dead. Voldemort might have just conqurored hogwarts and they have found that everything of value at hogwarts is gone. Towards the end of the fic so does it come out that voldemort never came back in harrys forth year, it was harry all along that had been pretending to be voldemort, simply using voldemorts reputation and servants to rob hogwarts blind :)

Hmm...an idea for the format of the unveiling of the plot...ever see the film "Inside Man"? Where he starts off telling his own story, but he leaves out the key parts?

So you could have Harry at the beginning of the story having already done the whole thing , saying "I had a plan to steal every knut from the wizarding world - the best plan ever concieved..." and then cue the story, told by Harry.

In this way, we know where the story is headed, but we don't know how it's gonne be done, or if he succeeds.

    ^That's a good idea.

It would keep the reader interested.

What would you do about Peter though?

I remember this one movie about a jewel theif (might have been Pierce Brosnan) who pulled off one last heist, but was screwed over by a guy who was an undercover police agent. The cop basically seemed like a non-factor the whole movie, but it turned out that he had pulled something by pretending to be drunk with a non-alcoholic drink and had shadowed the theif the entire movie. I think that, while probably unpopular, this could be pulled off better from a variety of perspectives. I think that having other characters noticing inconsistencies and kind of dropping hints to the reader about what was really happening would make for an easier read.

Just my humble opinion. Felt the need to be like Southwestern Bell, to reach out and touch somebody. (baseball coach said this, stuck in my head :? )
