This. Except I have no idea which emulator/ROM to get. (Mindless, read your PMs bro.)

I remember spending hours at a time playing Yellow. Pretty sure I got every Pokemon in the Pokedex (except, ya know, the ones you had to trade from other games...) at least once. Never done a Nuzlocke run before, be interested in seeing what other variations you can do as well.

I'm not sure if we can name specific emulators or the sites we got them from on DLP, but the emulator I got for Diamond is a GBA emulator that also does DS games. The emulator itself is alright, but turning off the sound freezes the game every time a pokemon faints, but turning the sound back on fixes it.

I found out last night that I can get a GBA and SNES emulator on my phone. My god it is awesome. Considering doing a Nuzlocke in Emereld, but after I clear it first. I don't know Gen III well enough right now to risk it D:

I beat the second gym(worth noting this is the farthest I've made it in a 3rd gen game in a long time), and I saved at Slateport. I'm gonna grind a few levels until Torchic evolves, and then gonna level up my Taillow, Shroomish and Makuhita.

Dead - Zigzagoon "Mknote", Lotad "Quacks". Both died to help me get past first gym.

I'm not using items. No hold items either. I was really hoping for an Aron in that cave, but I'm happy with a Makuhita. I got lucky with getting both Lotad and Shroomish; otherwise, I'd have had to grind Torchic until it evolved to beat that hellish Nosepass.

The Whismur I caught is basically an HM slave, and I debated on catching a Magikarp in Dewford. Decided not to, because I might want to try using super/good rod and catch something later.

The critical hit rate for is bullshit. I used Focus Energy and got one crit in twelve hits, and the opponent got 3 on me, almost KOing.

    Sort of unrelated;
    [IMG] I beat it, bitches.

It would be awesome if someone did a run-through with the moemon patch. This patch came about when one very dedicated Japanese person went and sprited every single pokemon into their moemon equivalents, and eventually someone decided to put them into their own game.

I've played it before: they're awesome to look at.

Redlined Starmie, but alas - Tinn died, game over.

    Thoughts:
    - Power leveling is essential, even at the cost of one's patience.
    - Knowledge of special move abilities is essential. Fucked me good.

Kalbasaur died right after Brock to a trainer with an Ekans of all things. I even said in chat 'oh, Ekans has wrap' and then proceeded to keep my starter out, losing it when I couldn't switch out. That pretty much set the pace for everything else.

    Can't remember what killed Irene.

Cal, Shezza, and Ellisande all fell to a Hiker with a Geodude - again, optional battle that I thought I could win. Needless to say, I was wrong.

Lyndon fell to a Diglett using MAGNITUDE 9 (000). That sucked.

All avenues of capture closed to me, I went ahead to fight Misty (knowing full well Tinn could never beat Surge) and lost in a very close battle to Starmie.

RNG was a mixed bag. Early game it was great. Then in the three zones around Cerulean, I fought rats/pidgeys and then the second battle, every time was the much needed Bellsprout. Tried to catch a Magikarp, but Lyndon crit hit it. Actually ran into a Drowzee... but Lyndon crit hit it with a scratch. Ran into Diglett... it killed Lyndon, then Tinn's tackle crit hit killed it.

    RAGE!

Conclusion though is that Nuzlocke is an awesome way to play. It completely changes the atmosphere of the game and leads to a more 'big picture' train of thought than the normal game requires.

    ------

Edit: Having thought about it some more (and hearing some good-natured smack about how Kanto is so much easier than the other versions) I have decided to try another run-through, under the following expanded rules:

    Vlad's Kanto Challenge.

    - Standard Nuzlocke:
    - If it faints, it is dead and must be released.
    - First pokemon on a given route is the only one that may be captured.

    - Special Rules
    - No items in battle mode - no exceptions.
    - Any healing item may be used outside of battle (however...)
    - No healing items may be purchased at any mart (you are limited to items you find in the wilds).
    - First visit to any pokecenter is free. Every subsequent visit costs 1000 yen (simulated by discarding pokeballs before healing).
    - Only one per species at any given time, even if you are able to catch a second one. You may replace a pokemon once it has died however, should you have the opportunity to do so.
    - A city is a complete zone. Thus for instance, I have the choice between Eevee or one Game Corner pokemon in Celadon, but not both. The same goes for Lapras/Fighting type in Saffron, Pokemon Mansion/Fishing off Cinnabar, etc...
    - Likewise, the Safari Zone is one zone, despite the signs within.
    * I feel the Safari Zone should actually be treated a little differently, and allow the player to run from the battle without penalty. Once a Safari ball, rock or bait is thrown, however, then the commitment has been made and the result is final. Thoughts?
    - No Legendaries/Ancients
    - Despite what the game says, there is only one Snorlax, and its name is Oz. The second Snorlax is obviously an impostor and should be dealt with accordingly.
    - Once you leave Pallet (the second time), you may not return until you have all eight badges.

The goal here is to force some tough decisions upon the player (or at the very least, forcing some level of sacrifice when you pick Dratini and Lapras) as well as having an ingame money sink that prevents abuse of leveling against wild creatures. The goal is to force the player to keep going forward, even against greater and greater odds.

Edit: The 'pay as you go' pokemon center rule is in effect, but very touch-and-go. A much more balanced policy is 100 yen for Brock's, 200 for Misty's, 300 for Surge's, etc... Probably will have a jump as the funds start increasing due to mass Rockets.

Mansion is its own zone, though the comprimise between Eevee/Gamecorner is still in tact, as is Fighter/Lapras.

Vlad: The Mansion and Cinnabar are different areas. A more apt description would be Fossil pokemon or fishing. The mansion is different because it shows up as it's own area even though it is technically on Cinnabar.

    Other than that though... awesome.

Alright, a much more promising start.

Rowena the Pidgey and Blaise the Monkey died retardedly early (both before I had even set foot in Viridian Forest). Since then it's been fairly smooth sailing despite more than a handful of lucky breaks and close calls. Luck in battle has been negated by bad luck out of it, with two Abras appearing in two zones and then sleep powder failing, resulting in teleportation away. Made worse when the very useful Bellsprouts pop up right behind them. Couldn't get Meowth or Drowzee either.

So it's Bulbasaur, Pidgeotto (second one), Magikarp, Beedrill, Diglett, Raticate, and Zubat and Spearow in a box. Names are Daphne, Padma, Cho, Astoria, Pansy, Pettigrew, Theo, and Filius, respectively. All are named to gender, though I won't lie: 'restarted' the 'pick your starter' sequence about 20 times to ensure a fem!Bulbasaur. The rest have been played as they fell.

Probably pick up again Wed. or Thurs. Gotta troll through the SS to get Cut, then beat Misty and Surge.

Easy enough to do on an Emulator...save states are instant and don't rely on ingame save feature.

    I still lol'd too.

Anyway, started playing on Fire Red tonight...Last one (only one >.>) I played was Yellow, so the whole pick your starter was weird. Do you always lose your first battle vs. rival?

I just dug out my LeafGreen copy that I used to start a Nuzlocke run a month or so ago. I wrote down most of the key events of my Nuzlocke run, so here we go:

    - Picked up Bulbasaur as starter. Named him Stark. Also got me a Spearow (Halberdier), Pidgey (Apollo), and Weedle (Waspish). Beat Brock. Picked up a Sandshrew (Sandy), Clefairy (Sookie), Caterpie (Mosaic) pre-Misty. Killed Misty and her cunt Starmie.

    - Found me a Diglett, named him Digdug, and then promptly had my first death when a Rattata with Hyper Fang tore Digdug a new asshole on the SS Anne.

    - Raped Surge. Caught He-Man the Machop in Rock Tunnel. Picked up a Meowth (Tiger) outside of Lavender Town, gave it Water Pulse, took it to the Rock Tunnel to train up... and then it was killed first battle against a wild Machop. Caught Cerberus the Doduo, never evolved it. Cerberus got Giovanni'd so Stark could live. Killed me some Erica.

    - Picked up a Snorlax, named him Gutsman. Yeah, he died too. Hyper Fang'd by another fucking Rattata, but I maintain that my own stupidity was the truth cause of death. Caught a Krabby (Snips), Poliwhirl (Winifred), Venonant (Natalie), Bellsprout (Salad) and Goldeen (Wendy).

    - Cunt-Ninja Koga damn near killed my entire team, actually killing Natalie. The other five were all reduced to red and toxic'd by the end of battle. Went back to Saffron and picked up a Hitmonchan (King). Current party: Stark the Venasaur, Apollo the Pidgeot, Snips the Kingler, Waspish the Beedrill, Sandy the Sandslash and King the Hitmonchan, the first five all level 41 and the latter level 31.

All in all, it's a hell of a ride that I'm sure will end horribly for all parties involved come Sabrina. Someone mentioned doing a Nuzlocke on Black or White when they come out, and since I'm getting both, I may just on one of the two. I think playing one of those games for the first time with Nuzlocke rules will add a certain layer of unpredictability to it which'll make things more fun. Can't wait.

    No.

I started a Diamond run just to test things out. Started with Chimcar. Found a Starly in the route south of Jubilife, then found four Shinx's in a row. That kinda' sucked, but not too bad. Found a Starly to the east of Jubilife. Then found another Shinx and then an Abra. That sucked. Found a Geodude in Oreburgh Path or Cave. Caught it. Found another Geodude north of Oreburgh. Found one in Oreburgh Mine. I got annoyed, saved and quit.

Started my real run in Emerald version. Started with Mudkip. Didn't find a wild Pokemon until just before my rival, which meant I was able to catch a Pokemon north of Littleroot (Poochyena). Caught a Zizagoon (no doubt one of many...) west of Oldale. Currently raising the new additions.

Fingers crossed for a Taillow or a Wingull to the west of Petalburg.
