Deflating a bit, "Ah, I see. Still, for Balin to have something like that, it's likely he has other things of the sort. Perhaps confiscated during his travels, but they could also be there for a more nefarious reason. Ignoring the source, if we had the right protection, like that provided by a god, we could very well bring a strong Outsider to this realm."

To the cell, "I am Dominic, in case you had not heard. Gnomish oracle of forgotten and ignored gods, their mouthpiece in these lands. I was spreading their word when I was captured by these vile do-gooders."

"Okay, we now have more information still. This 'Grumblejack' is clearly no friend of the arcane, and of a simple persuasion. If we can free ourselves, or otherwise ready our escape, I can most likely incite him to attempt to break free by posing as one of his jailors and taunting him with mental messages. From there, we can either use his assistance to escape, or break free in the distraction. We should make plan first, though; he will know my voice, so I will not be able to speak aloud in his presence if we attempt such a gambit."

Ruby looks bored, but nudges Zadok slightly, whispering into his ear.

"I'm really quite sorry about this, but I'm going to have to ask you not to resist. You look nice and strong, and if I know one thing about these guards. They'll want to keep you alive long enough to execute you. So what I want you to do, pet, is Sleep.

Ruby will use her Slumber hex on Zadok.

 

Zadok's eyes flare open briefly for a moment before he sags against his chains, completely asleep.

[I choose to autofail]

 

"Well, this got kinky real quick."

 

Ruby stiffles a giggle before setting a serious face and shouting to the guards.

"Hey! Guards! Come quick! I think he's dying! He's been hitting his head against the stone wall for the past 10 minutes, and just now he convulsed and he's gone limp!"

 

"You all squabble like children" Lexgud grumbled in common, having woken up from the commotion of the guards. Either the guards did not know, or care that he'd been sleeping, but the combination of the light, commotion and all the talking had woken him up. While not exactly ecstatic to be with a bunch of magic users (although the half-orc looked promising) perhaps their foul ways would be of use.
