It sounds like an amalgamation of too many other fics to really work. We've seen (numerous times for each) all of wizardkind wiped out except H&Hr&other / all of humanity except H&Hr&other / muggles versus wizards / travel back in time to prevent the apocolypse.

Any plot that uses timeturners as a major piece, in my opinion, is stupid. Whoever the time traveler is could leave a message/list of places to be/whatever. And then wham, Harry goes off and imperios everyone who needs it, and kills anyone else remotely linked with the project.

If you have two Harrys running around (as you're using a time-turner, this is canon), then Harry would have all his school-learnings, as well as everything he learnt in the three or more years afterwards. So fiendfyre and such are realistic.

It could work, but too much work to avoid stupid!characters and such.

I chose Hermione because she's the one that has used Time-Turner on numerous occasions before, thus making her - in my opinion - quite 'expert' on it. I need someone that can explains to Harry that Time-Turner will not work because it cannot change the future, no matter what you do - and I need someone to tell Harry how exactly to use Time-Turner. It doesn't need to be Hermione, though. Maybe McGonagall can take her role.

Looking at it again... yes, you're right, sir.

But if you're having Harry go back anyway, then there really is no point in having Hermione explain it is impossible to change anything - all that we gain is that Harry CANNOT do anything. So the entire piece has no overall effect.

On the other hand, if you went with Luna/Katie/Susan/Narcissa/Winky/Buckbeak, who thought it could be possible, you can then have the horrific final chapter in which Harry realizes that it was all for nothing, and he himself ended up causing the apocalypse. Again and again and again for ever.

Although, again, I've seen that loads before.

I think in the Terminator world, it shows that you CAN in fact change things. It's canon in that story that the first two movies delayed Skynet, but the future was still 'inevitable'. Regardless, you CAN change the future.

Too useful. Two teachers and a genius girl? Try people who are completely without savvy - like... Pansy Parkinson, or maybe Ron. Or something. This is probably a prime time for some really really rich character interaction to occur, honestly...

No. AK breaks everything. It sets desks on fire, and turns marble into rubble. It rips souls out of people. You fire an AK at a computer - that shit will melt into steel and silicon slag. You fire that at a Terminator? That shit will melt into... steel and silicon slag.

I like saying that. Steel and silicon slag. :DDDDD

    Moving beyond that...

I liked the idea - I'd definitely read it, but I'm not sure if anyone but a damned season writer can pull it off. As far as the damn seasoned writers on DLP go, they have ideas that are, to be brutally honest, more engaging and probably a better read.

I think a lot of problem that all plot bunnies have are difficulty vs. readability. Unfortunately, I know that I definitely won't be able to pull something like this off. :X

An AK fired at a T-1000 would probably destroy some of its mass, but I think Fiendfyre would be a better idea (if you could cast it). Find some way to trap the whole thing and then burn.

Fiendfyre fixes all problems. It's the only canon-proven _real_ magic out there, besides the AK. lol.

I too, have been watching epic 90's movies. Three Plot bunnies stand above the rest however.

    HP/Fight Club
"Mr. Potter and Mr. Thomas! Stop this fighting this instant or I shall have the lot of you expelled!" All was silent as Professor Snape glared down the two fifth years, Bruised and bleeding, as they tried to catch their breath. Harry was the first to speak.

He crawled away from the pool of blood and vomit that had escaped his own body, and began to slither towards the Potions Master. Finally reaching him, he pulled himself up using Snape's black robes.

Inches away from his face, Harry opened his mouth to reveal a hideous display of missing teeth and cut gums, his few remaining teeth red with the crimson liquid of blood.

He spat in Snapes face, letting blood and spittle fly.

    "Tyler says fuck you."

I tried once. Voldemort's Horcrux messed with Harry's head and appeared to him as his twin brother, and the Fight Club in this case was the DA, all trained up to go kill Death Eaters... and fail spectacularly. Gory deaths ensued. Good times.

Heh. I remember an abandoned Harry/Pansy fic from ages ago, Embargo-O, which had elements of Fight Club in it. I uploaded it to the HP Recycle Bin group on Yahoo, back in 2007.

Speak of the devil. A well-written Pansy can be fun, playing opposite Harry. She can still be bitchy and quick to mock people who she believes are acting stupid, without being a racist or a Malfoy toady.

I'd have to disagree with this.

First, just to get it out of the way: Long ago, I brought up that business about the AK separating the soul from the body (makes sense, seeing as it leaves no marks and no apparent cause of death), and was promptly informed that there was no indisputable canon proof of this.

Furthermore, the AK is used to kill spiders and foxes in the books. So, either those things have souls, or the AK doesn't specifically target the soul.

    *shrug*

But the main point I wanted to address is...
Early terminators were made of Titanium and they did have a habit of melting at high temperatures, which is why they started making them out of Coltan, specifically for its heat resistance.

Coltan has a much higher melting point than titanium. Keep in mind that titanium melts at 3034 °F (1668 °C), so "much hotter" would have to be very hot indeed. I just don't think the Killing Curse transfers enough caloric energy to non-creature targets to create that kind of heat.

The curse might 'kill' the terminator's flesh at the point of impact, but since there isn't a heart or any other organs keeping the skin alive, then there really aren't any organs to 'fail' when the Killing Curse hits the flesh and, thus, no reason to assume the curse would 'kill' the entire 'skin'.

It's a curse that can instantly kill a human-sized or smaller target, not a miniature sun. When it impacts a non-creature target (a target that is 'incompatible' with the curse's design, so to speak) whatever energy is in the spell seems to bleed off in a manner that causes damage.

Yes, it cracks tombstones and can slag gold... just about the softest, easiest to melt metal there is. But, there's no reason to believe that it can melt even titanium, let alone Coltan.

If you hit a Terminator with the AK, you might burn off a bit of skin. As far as the endoskeleton is concerned, though, you'd probably be lucky to leave a sooty smudge. Now, using a blasting or gouging hex, or a metal transfiguration on it might be more effective. Hard to walk or pull a trigger when your arms and legs are doing a pretzel impression.

And I'm not even a Terminator fanboy. :)

    Everyone has moments like that.

And it was awesome. God, please finish that snippet. Marla!Ginny (her Horcrux connection making her drawn to Harry/theBrother and unable to tell who is who?) was very likeable.

...Now I'm thinking of a Fight Club HBC with reddish hair. =O

I don't know. I think the AK is a lot more powerful than you give it credit for... after reading so many of the old threads, it's pretty obvious that the 'can't compare magic to physics' arg comes into play.

    Also.

    Transfiguration ;DDDDDDDD

Assuming there's a spell that can transfigure Coltan to crap or jelly. Transfiguration is very specific, you know.

And now while everyone talking about Harry Potter/OldMovie, I want to ask your opinion about this: Harry Potter/Event Horizon.

    @Warlocke, I disagree.

AKing someone kills them. AKing a tombstone destroys it and renders it useless. AKing a gold statue wrecks it, and stops it being able to function.

Very little jump needed to assume that AKing a robot would destroy it, its' programming, or melt it.

    Also, @Little Knee.
WTF? Where is the canon proof that transfiguration spells are limited? And I'm talking books, as the films and games take way too many liberties with, well, everything.

Yes, duro turns things to stone, but it is a dueling spell. And, one would assume Hogwarts doesn't teach a 'wall hanging to stone wall hanging' spell, as that really isn't useful.

Much as I hate to bring it up, read MoR on transfiguration, something along the lines of
There's two other theories (that I'm aware of):
1 - there are catergories - animate/inanimate, living/nonliving/dead, plant/animal/mineral/object/other and so on. You 'build' or have the incantation known.
2 - All transfiguration is either silently cast (which I doubt due to fifth year teaching of silent spells), or actual transfiguration (not conjuring and only technically transfiguration spells) has only one incantation, or a very short list. Something along the lines of 'transfigurius' or some nonsense. The spell is then formed by the complete mental picture in your head. Spells like duro are an anomaly, as they are designed/crafted to be used in battle, so have a short incantation and not as much mental picturing needed.

Sigh. This will be my last post on this particular subject, since this is the plot bunny thread, not the "how spells work" thread.

Actually, the first statue that shielded Harry neither stopped moving, nor was it damaged.

It would seem the effects of this curse on statues is a bit... inconsistent.

So, the Killing Curse should have been named the "Absolute Destruction" spell, since, in your estimation, it is capable of rendering anything useless, whether it's a living body or an object... any object.

It's a wonder, then, that we don't see it being used to destroy doors, knock down walls... I mean, it's only illegal to use on humans, right? Where's the harm in using it to open a locked door? Why bother using ANY destruction spell, like the one with which Harry and company blast their way out of Gringotts, when an AK will do it better?

And the function of a house or building is to provide shelter, so hitting it with a single Killing Curse would, no doubt, cause it to collapse (no matter how big it is), since that's what it would mean to make it cease functioning.

One hit from the AK and you've just stopped the Knight Bus, or maybe a tank, or maybe the very notion is-

Oops, I've run out of kind words; time to go. :facepalm

And if anyone brings up the Aramaic translation of Avada Kedavra, I will scream.

@Thaumologist: No. You gotta admit it, there are limits in transfiguration. And yes, they are from canon:

    1) An animagus is limited by the fact that they can only transform into one form of Animal.

    2) Conjuration is principally limited by the Five Principal Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration. One of these is the restriction that one cannot conjure food.

Then, I never said that no transfiguration spell can work on Terminator. I just said "Assuming there's a spell..." Because really, I don't really know if there's a transfiguration spell that can transfigure Terminator into - let's say - stone or jelly. Such things never occurred in Harry Potter books, therefore I, and also you, can't be really sure.

Hmm, I'm relatively sure that someone with deep, deep knowledge of transfiguration/alchemy (ala Dumbledore, perhaps even McGonagall) would be able to transfigure sets of elements - it has to be within the periodic table, eh? I'm making a sort of 'magical leap' (part of my self-characterization of a shitty fic-writer), but alchemist (17th century and all) were aware that some elements were like others, even before chemistry. Someone with magic could probably exploit that?

But then again, what's the fun in that?

Dumbledore vs. Terminator EPIC WAND BATTLE GOGOGO!
