All my mkv files play choppy no matter what I do, I have a recent version of VLC so posts other places from 5 years ago tell me to go into menus that don't exist.

The video is choppy and blocky and all fucked up but the audio is perfect. does anyone have a clue what I turn up/down to fix it?

The problem isn't the files it's the player, trust me I'm sure of it.

I've got Windows 7 64-bit if that matters?

Your video codecs are not up to date. Update them.

The video's resolution may exceed your computers capability. Is it a 720/1080p video?

it is 1080 I think, but my computer is able to play 1080p. so I'm updating my VLC, check back in when that is done.
