    Hello everyone,

    for those who were following the Club 500 thread, I posted a short while ago informing everyone that I had started a writing project based on the Club 500's idea. This project has expand beyond what I had imagine at first and I'm now looking for more participants. I thought some of you might be interested in it or could spread the word.

    Project 500 has two sides. The first one is simply to promote writing on a regular basis. We are offering a forum for interested individuals to write fiction. The second side, and probably the most interesting, is a contest. We are aware that writing for writing doesn't work for everyone. We have decided to create a contest to motivate our participants.

    Contest

    There are two contests held each year, for a duration of 5 months each.

    The first contest begins January 1st and ends the 31st of May.
    The second contest begins July 1st and ends November 30th.

    The months of June and December have been purposefully left out so that participants may have some resting time and may better enjoy their vacations. This short break will also allow time for the administrators to prepare the winner’s prize.

    How It Works
    Every Sunday the administrators randomly pick a theme and a genre for the week which is about to start. With these two criteria the participants write one 500 word (or more) text.

    At some point in the project you might not be inspired at all by the genre and theme of the week. Do not worry, you are allowed to write a (fiction) text on what ever you want. Keep in mind though that the texts who do not respect that week’s criteria will not be considered for the monthly nomination.

    Every month the administrators will choose a winning text (and the matching winning author). This text will have respected certain specific criteria which will be presented shortly. The winning author of the month will be given a ticket for the final draw. There will be two of these final draws, one at the end of May and the other at the end of November, and the winners will win a prize.
    It is possible for an author to win more than one month, allowing him multiple chances in the final draw.

    Example :
    Vicky wins the January Nomination. She thus obtains one ticket for the final draw.

    Gianni wins the February Nomination. He thus obtains one ticket for the final draw.

    Vincent wins the March Nomination. He thus obtains one ticket for the final draw.

    Vicky wins the April and May Nominations! She obtains two more tickets for the final draw.

    At the final draw, Vicky has 3 tickets, Vincent has 1 and Gianni has 1.

    Criteria required for the monthly Nomination
    Every author/text that does not completely follow all of the criteria will not be chosen for the monthly Nomination.

    1. The author must have written 1 text every week of the said month
    2. The text must have a minimum of 500 words
    3. The text must respect the genre and theme of the week when it was posted.

    The administrators will evaluate the following criteria to determine the recipient of the Nomination:
    1. Originality of the idea;
    2. Coherence and execution of the text;
    3. Spelling (a minimum effort is required!);
    4. Improvement on the part of the author.

    We are well aware that for various reasons some people are not writing in their mother tongue. We will take this into consideration when judging these texts.

    Language
    You are free to write in French or in English!

    Prize
    2012 Edition: A professionally-bound book containing all of the nominated texts of the contest, as well as many other texts written by other participants. Furthermore, this book shall be autographed by George R. R. Martin, author of the fantasy series A song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones on HBO)!

    ------

    This is basically what the Project is about. As it grows, we are working towards finding sponsor for various prize (books, games, movies, music, etc.) that could be handed to the Monthly Nominees and the Winner.

    If some of you are interested, you can follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Projet500)

    or visit our forum (http://projet500.forumactif.ca/) where you can register as with any forum or use the integrated Facebook login feature.

    The forum structure is all in french at the moment, but all rules and important announcement have been translated. English translation are after the french version and generally between bracket [].

    Thank you!
