Considering that we are doing this in quarters, I think we should come up with 4 genres of HP fanfiction. They rotate, coming back every year. Then when one of the genres become less relevant, or if there is a new "in" thing, we can replace out.

But I truly think we would get wider participation and better content if we did genres instead of prompts.

I think some of these single-word prompts are a little too broad. It may make scoring difficult as two people may have vastly different opinions on what a word means to them, leading to such a diverse amount of stories it becomes near impossible to compare and score them on more than personal opinions.

I suggest doing something slightly more restrictive like:

- Azkaban Breakout.
- A fall from grace

As well as some fun prompts that might make some cool AUs.
- Slytherin!Lily.
- Female!Snape or Female!Voldemort
- A world without Voldemort

I also would like one quarter being dedicated to turning cliches on their head. So taking something people hate from fanon and making it awesome. Case in point: LightLord!Harry, or something equally ridiculous. After all, any rules can be broken if you are a good enough writer.

My thoughts drift toward an old portal connecting Hogwarts (or somewhere) to the Mars Wizarding colony, a portal that's been offline for a few hundred years...

...connection re-established, Mars magical folk have taken magic in a few wholly different ways than Earth magical folk. A few hundred years in Martian atmosphere have subtly altered their physical/magical appearance. There's a language barrier, a Martian Dark Lord, an incursion of strange and alien magic.

First in the trilogy is Martian Dark Lord attacking Earth, coming up against Harry and co. Second in the trilogy is Harry, perhaps others, imprisoned on Mars - learns a few tricks, has to escape. Third in the trilogy is all out war, Hogwarts under siege, of course, and some sort of inter-planetary climax where Harry unites the colony with Earth against Mars Dark Lord and his followers.
