So here's the place for prompts.

Planning on one of the staff prompts for next time to be the simple and oft-referenced 'Azakaban.' We've had a lot of desire for a non-specific prompt like that and everyone always seems to use that one as an example.

Another prompt (of any kind - first line, concept, specific, etc) will come from the winner.

Ideas for a third? Anything anyone is really feeling this time? @Sorrows

Thing's had a pretty brutal past, should provide a ton of opportunities.

-HP timetravel from the perspective of someone else a la Sorrow's Anticlockwise.
-At age 467 Lord Voldemort begins to think that Dumbledore may have had point.
    -Harry Potter loves his fame.
-Harry mentored by an older student.
-A snippet from Harry's seventh year after Voldemort defeat.
    -Quidditch
-Explore the Power he knows not in an original way.

And I'm still fond of :

-Harry was raised as Dudley was. Now he's fat, lazy, entitled and surrounded by freaks at his new school.

A lot of those are more story ideas than prompts. I think making it more open to interpretation might be good pick something really broad. Not so much a first line or a starting off place but more open subject to explore.

Of the ones suggested I like:

    • Azkaban
    • Amnigus
    • Memories
    • Statute of Secrecy
    • Muggle Hunting
    • Pure
    • Muggleborn
    • Subhuman
    • To Forget
    • Perfectly Normal
    • The Elder Wand
    • The Unbreakable Vow
    • Halloween
    • The Forbidden Forest
    • The Hogwarts Letter
    Oohh, 'The real epilogue.'

Or you could take a phrase from the books
    • I solemnly swear that I am up to no good
    • The thing about growing up with Fred and George," said Ginny thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve
    • People find it far easier to forgive others for being wrong than being right.
    • Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean it is not real?”
    • Dobby is free.
    • It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be
    • I think we've outgrown full-time education ... Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?,
    • Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect
    • Make way for the heir of Slytherin, seriously evil wizard coming through …
    • And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.
    • I've always wanted to use that spell.

Of the bullet point story prompts from sorrows above the quotes, sub-human would be interesting. A creature perspective from the goblins, mermen, giant or other non human perspective would be interesting. A lot of world creation opportunity/burden.

Like this. I could dig something about the history of the wand.

This gave me a really good idea. I hope this is an option.

@Ched we have three prompts. How about of the three writers can write for anyone of them. Doesn't have to be winning vote. Imo that's more flexible. I don't know if it's worth trying to implement but people just need to get into is all I guess.

My time travel story (which as you've discovered shares some similarities to your own) was actually in one of the older contests. Didn't win though, there was a better one. As I recall, it was a prequel about the rise of Voldemort and had a chilling ending.

    Here are my suggestions:
    • "This ends today"
    • He's not the same
    • I'm afraid it is, Harry.
    • Don't ignore me
    • The Sneak
    • It's not what it looks like
    • Prepare yourself
    • He looked utterly exhausted

If you are talking about Marietta Edgecombe... I have a great idea for this.

Same with a non-Harry time travel story.

Well, the prize for winning the competition is getting to pick a prompt to put in the poll for next time.

Why don't we put these two popular prompts into the poll (Elder Wand, Time Travel not from HP's POV) along with the prompt from the winner?

Whichever of these popular ones doesn't get used we can put back into the poll next time.

Works for me. Since no one else had suggested anything concrete. Has anyone talked to @Selethe for her prompt choice?

For purely selfish reasons I don't really want to do a outside perspective timetravel fic just because I've got one going on already and loads of better writers might flood my niche. I've already got to compete with Jeram for god's sake.

The ones suggested so far that get me thinking are: Muggleborn, Sub-human and The Adventures of Gilderory Lockheart

If I had a vote, then I would cast it for one of these. First vote for deluminator; I've never seen one done before. What about Blood Brothers: My Life Amongst the Vampires? A non-twilight hp fanfic? It would be interesting if we were to base it off what little we see of it in HBP.

Yeah, @Zombie. Though I did so in private as technically I'm not meant to reveal who they are - if they say so that's fine, but I'm not revealing who won. :D
