I wanted to write something myself but overlapping project deadlines were a complete bitch and a half.

All in all, quite an easy decision for me. The second entry stands out, and the first one gets the nod over no. 4 on the merit of me not having to stop myself from reading it because I got bored with it far too quickly, which was the case with the latter.

I suppose this is going to be a contest for second, though it might be won soon enough. For my part I found the first entry closer to the spirit of the prompt than the fourth. I would think one of the main reasons for the similarity in the votes would be a lack of alternatives.

    Entry 2.
    Entry 4.
    Entry 1.

None really stood out as actual romances, but entry 2 did at least have a previously romantic couple at the heart of it, while entry 4 revolved around potentially romantic developments; entry 1 was more about obsession, and entry 3 just...well, wasn't very good.

    Easy peasey this time around:

    Entry 2
    Entry 4
    Entry 1
    Entry 3

But to be honest, I only really found #2 any good. #4 had serious characterization and story issues, #1 had serious structural and plot issues, and #3 was ill-constructed and too short to be understood in totality.

I think number 2 is the stand-out winner.

I'm going to go with 4 over 1, as I think ultimately, for all its flaws it was a story and 1 wasn't, not truly, even if it had some stronger imagery and a killer punchline.

    so:
    Entry 2
    Entry 4
    Entry 1

Good effort guys, and congratulations to number 2.

Entry #2 is the clear winner. Needs another draft, but a really solid foundation.

#1 was the only other actual story, but getts bogged down in the incorrect plot. #3 is a 500 club entry, and #4 I can best describe as strongly meh.

    Entry #1
    Entry #2
    Entry #3
    Entry #4

edit: Hold on, I see we're supposed to name 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place? Okay.

    1st place: #2
    2nd place: #1
    3rd place: #4

The clear winner for me was entry #2. Not only did I like this story the best... I personally think it was the only story submitted that included actual romance as opposed to obsession or sex. And even #2 only had aspects of romance. I'll probably be irked if it doesn't win, but such is life.

I felt that #1 was more about obsession than romance, #3 was a romance story left incomplete, and #4 was a story more about sex and flings than anything else.

Those are my opinions - how I personally define romance is not 'right' or 'wrong' simply my take on it. But I have to admit that I'm having trouble ranking them.

Still though, my rankings come out to be...
    Entry #2 - First
    Entry #1 - Second
    Entry #3 - Third

I'll do the tally in a day or two - today is the last day to vote, so get out there and read, review, and vote everyone! I left it a bit late, don't leave it later!

    1st Place: Entry #2
    2nd Place: Entry #4
    3rd Place: Entry #1

DLP hosts a Romance Writing competition, and nobody writes a true Romance. See, this is why the shippers hate this place.

Congratulations to Entry #2 - History Retold!
Here's the winner thread - feel free to discuss more there!

If you'd like to claim your story, let me know and I'll add your name to the post.

There's no runner-up this time, though entries 1 & 4 were quite close and almost tied for second place.

Here's the tally - I'll make another thread for all the congratulations, etc. Keep in mind that the numbers shown in the image are not the rankings but the points - 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd.

Thanks to everyone who entered and everyone who reviewed! I will say that we didn't have a true 'romance' entered in my opinion, though at least the winner did include what I'd consider to be romance.

Let's have more stories and more reviewers both next time, yeah?
