The point is, Wildbow doesn't dwell on the minority group they're a part of. It's incredibly easy to miss, even - I believe the Legend thing is like one line in his interlude. If he's a hack tacking it on to make the audience find them interesting, then he's doing a pretty shoddy job of it.

What makes Legend interesting is his horrible moral dilemma and position that he's placed in with Cauldron and the Protectorate, how much he does and doesn't know, and how much he's blamed regardless.

What makes Eidolon interesting is that he's the best and the brightest (so to speak) but in a world where monsters are incrementally tearing it apart, and an even bigger one lies on the horizon, that is never enough, and he feels overwhelmed by fears that he won't be good enough.

    And so on.

Maybe if he'd focused on them being a minority it would be an issue. But he never did, and it's never the facet of their character that sticks with us as a result.

I was trying to think of counter-examples, and I realised I couldn't. And the reason for that is as I said above - these are not the bits that stick with you about the character. I don't remember Chevalier's backstory, or whether he could be considered a minority, nor Hero's, nor Aegis', or any of the others. I didn't remember Eidolon being disabled earlier, either. It's just not accentuated or dwelled on.

True, but most of the characters we deal with are capes, and they don't receive their authority through conventional methods. If anything, they're going to be biased more strongly towards minority groups because of the nature of their trigger events/how they come to pass.

Not to mention that Cauldron laid the foundations for the Protectorate.

You are making way to many assumptions about me and my views. Fuck off. I am only saying that minorities are Minorities and Wildbow is dependent on using them, and the political landscape, to establish his characters.

I'm honestly failing to see how you got this idea. What minority a character belongs to is only really referenced in relation to racist characters like the Empire 88 and the ABB. Otherwise it's pretty much a non-issue.

I think we can all agree that CleanRag's a lil' bitch and this thread has been derailed enough. If you hadn't noticed this isn't the worm thread.

Spoken like a true G, Oz.

Anyways, this is one of my favorite Worm fics. I like the drama and angst; usually, I'm not one for a lot of angst, but in this case, it's justifiable. I mean, she fucking died, and her life sucks terribly. 4/5

I didn't realize it, but the last post by the author indicates this story is dead. I dunno if it's worth putting in the library at this point, since there isn't a lot of content to it. sadface
