The nature of Harry Potter magic works against it in this type of setting. In a different series, the wizard might just have to blink and he can render a non-magical being unconscious.

Even with all the conflict in Harry Potter, we rarely see a proper battle or fight. The only time we really saw one was between Dumbledore and Voldemort, which was beyond what anyone else in the series ever produced.

It's like trying to mix oil and water, in my opinion. Naruto and Harry Potter don't mix.

Though I found several of Howdy's reasons to be pretty amusing. Can a non-magical person even counter something like the Imperious? Doesn't matter, though. Without enhancing wizards or cutting down ninja, it can't work, and most people don't like that.

In a fight between ninjas and wizards, one must consider intent of wizards toward their personal lives. The wizard who has trained himself for dueling, unlike civilian wizard, can only be considered in a fight versus a shinobi. Therefore we need to look at wizards like Severus Snape, Voldemort, Dumbledore and pit their abilities against powerful shinobi. We need to also take into account their genius and creativity, and expect that they will come up with their own solutions to ninjas. Ninjas have only two weapons: jutsus that use chakra, and their body. Wizards have magic at their disposal to be molded as dictated by their intelligence. Taking this, we can say that a wizard with a sufficiently high iq can find a way to effictively beat shinobi.

What's this? Wizard spells stem from mental energy? That's a fucking breakthrough right there. Congratulations, you just connected the HP world with the Naruto world. Writing my crossover will be so much easier now that people understand the wizards use mental energy all the time.

    Well met, sir. Well met.

Apparently only Wizards can use intelligence in combat? Couldn't you also say Ninja's have their chakra at their disposal to be molded as dictated by their intelligence?

Taking this you could say that a Ninja with a sufficiently high IQ can find a way to always beat a Wizard.

Not mental energy but intelligence, a gift that can be used to mold magic. Chakra runs out but magic does not, and magic is much more versatile. Are there jutsus for cooking, cleaning, and all sorts of various spells that are in Harry Potter?

I am simply saying that you can't state ninjas will always win against wizards. That is to ignore the facts, that wizards have magic and magic is a weapon as well, as controlled by the wizard's brain.

Yes ninjas can also think of innovative techniques in a fight. That is up to the author.

Also iq is not always the determining factor. There is such a thing as luck after all. And determination of the human spirit which can supposedly conquer any obstacle.

I once read a HP/Naruto crossover once where Lucius Malfoy vanished all the jutsu and projectiles thrown at him with a wave of his wand. I think one of the ninja was Yondaime too >_>

Yeah, HP/Naruto don't mix at all. I had an idea for a fic where the HP world is the predecessor to the Naruto world, and -not going into a lot of detail- a few of the HP characters go on to be ancestors to certain clans because of mutations caused by the chakra of the biju mixing with magic (which Voldemort summon and couldn't control). I just never got around to writing it out on paper XD

The only hope I would see is like super advanced Legilimency tied in with Apparition.
If you can read the mind, just do some crazy apparition spam.

Harry Potter can make a patronus to distract Itachi, and then jump on his boom and fly deep into the stars, whereaupon he can by the bubble head charm, comfortably, do the following: call upon a demon. Itachi will be watching this with his sharingan and will suddenly come up with a brilliant technique to defeat Harry's manouever. He whips up a net to capture Harry as he falls down, and throws thousands of illusion shuriken to deter his flight. The demon rips through the net and attacks Itachi, who could then move away by which time Harry will have apparated right next to him.

Harry can then go avada kideavra and defeat Itachi.

    Wizards rule. Face the facts.

    Because Fan Fiction is Imagination.

    Hahahaha...

    Hahahaha...

    Ahahahaha...

...So basically 'HP can win because I say so'? Nevermind that demon summoning has never even been mentioned in Harry Potter canon? And nevermind that Harry's gay little broomstick would burn to cinders in the Earth's atmosphere (along with Harry himself)?

Way to counter logical arguments there, champ. But hey, he could always kill Itachi with a Cheering Charm.

    P.S.: It's "Avada Kedavra."

It depends on what capabilities you give magic imo. ancientdragon, as extraordinarily gay as his method was, could have invented a spell to nullify friction as Harry rockets out of earth. But then it's not conventional HP magic.

Oh, sure. Anybody can technically invent anything in a story. That doesn't stop those inventions from being contrived and stupid, however. Oh, and the complete lack of oxygen in space would probably turn Ickle Harrykins' brain to mush before he could even think about casting a spell there. Frankly, there isn't a single thing in that post that is logically feasible according to what we know about HP magic in the books (aside from Harry casting 'Avada Kideavra,' whatever that is).

Take a minute and realize that you guys are arguing over whether ninja are better than wizards.

I've always subscribed to the Dresden system of magic - a wizard with enough time to prepare can kill just about anything, including ninjas. While we see a lot of magic at Hogwarts, there are only glimpses of the other various magics of the Harry Potter universe, and not enough for a definative style, so it is possible.

That's one of the things that irks me most about fanfics: Hogwarts is a school, teaching schoolboy magic. While some of the things there are undoubtedly useful and awesome, none of the really heavy-duty stuff is represented. It's one of JK's major failings, imo. We know that there's all sorts of post-NEWT enchantments and crazy uber-rituals to rip your soul and such, but where do people learn these things? Is it all self study and Evil Books from Knockturn Alley[FONT=&quot]©[/FONT]? That seems as contrived in canon as it does in bad fanfiction.

Either way (and back on topic): [Wizards] +
    [Time] = [Wizard!Pwn]

Unfortunately for wizards, ninja are trained from childhood to hide, misdirect, and assinate from the shadows. Everything about ninja training conditions them to infiltrate secure areas, kill you before you know they're there, and get out, quickly, without anybody else realizing before they're long frickin gone. It's like it's perfectly designed for wizard-killin'. You can't magic away a throwing star or jutsu if you don't know it's there, right? Or, better yet, why bother when you're 'safe' behind your super-invisible wards?

And even if you catch a ninja in the act, can you move faster than the naked eye? Cuz wizards can't either. So, a revision of my original equation:

[Wizards] + [Time Spent Knowing WTF is going on in an Impenatrible Fortress] = [Wizard!Pwn]

Conversely: [Ninjas] + [30 Seconds in General Vicinity of Wizards] = [Ninja!Pwn]

tl;dr - Ninjas own wizards before they know wtf is going on, and anyone who thinks otherwise should GTFO because they're dumb. Story gets 4/5.

Uhm...Have you read Naruto? When's the last time you actually saw those ninja being stealthy at all? A Naruto ambush runs something like this:

*ninja hides in tree until enemy wizard is up close, does hand seals* "MASSIVELY OVERSIZED CHAKRA CONSTRUCT OF FIRE no jutsu (for posterity)"

*as above stated, the massive fire technique causes a fire to launch from the ninja's mouth and head towards the wizard*

I'm sure the smart ninja (i.e. A-S class) would be smart enough to be stealthy and just run up behind the wizard and stab him (assuming there aren't any kind of mobile perimeter wards, or that even if they were there, the wizard could react in time) but you Joe genin/chunin seems to want to make big explosions, not be stealthy.

Howdy got it right when he described Naruto shinobi as more like battle mages than real life ninja (like the ones that assassinated David Carradine :p).

An ideal ninja would not even engage a wizard. He'd walk right by and they wouldn't sense him. He'd complete his objective and no one would have even known he was there. That's it, none of the silly power displays in Naruto. Combat is a last resort, a very, very, last resort, and you'd only engage it in it if you had to return with information. If you were caught after assassinating, you'd probably self-destruct. A ninja should leave no trace, after all. The E ranked jutsu taught at the academy level are of the true spirit of a ninja (transformation, diversionary, misdirection), the only thing that should be taught in ninja school that isn't is an invisibility jutsu.

Naruto ninjas are battle mages, so basically a naruto crossover is technical!mages (HP magic is more technical than it is powerful - traps, stuns, transformation, conjuration, alteration) versus battle!mages (mages adept at mass destruction). Pure power < proper planning, most of the time.

Regardless of who kills what and whether it's feasible:

    This

Obvious shoop is obvious, but it almost makes me believe... Can you imagine the carnage? This is a crossover I would read. Chances are it would be slash though, so the point is kinda moot.

Itachi as HP? Or HP as Itachi?
Either way, idea has potential. Deadpan BWL or "magical" massacre tickles me something fierce. And here I thought that story where Naruto became Itachi was crazy enough.
