    I hate Spoiler tags too.

    SPOILER

Anyone who has Actually watched more than two episodes of TOS knows that the federation was no where near as militeristic or even by the books as later portrayed in The newer incarnations.

They outright ignore there own rules, laws and proceadures unless it suits the episode to persecute a character.

This was 70's style federation in all its cliche rule breaking bad ass glory.

This was a generation of back room deals, under the table negotiations, and charisma induced advancement.

This was very accurate for ehte generation of the story it was based on.

In a real life war scenario, no, I doubt a cadet would keep the battle promotion or even the command of a ship as important as the flag ship.

A severe promotion an expunging of the academic record of any wrong doings would be in order, He might even get to stay first officer, but no, captain would be unlikely.

And there's no proof that pike was permanently crippled. It could be that it was just for recovery sakes that he was in a wheel chair. Its possible considering that beatle thing latches onto the brain stem that he could become a parapalegic, but I think at most he'll walk away with a pimp cane.

    Finally...

It's a reamagening, get over it, its meant to make a room full of nerds orgasm and make new fans out of others. IF you enjoyed it then just roll with it.

until the sequal comes thers going to be plenty of time to criticize the likelyness of events. Like a ship surviving entering a black hole but being destroyed by one later...

Saw the fil, t'was epic. Never liked Star Trek that much, but I was surprised to find that, not only it was a good movie, but I was enjoying the ride as if I had been watching Raiders of the Lost Ark.

    Epic adventure story

I really enjoyed the movie. I thought it was great fun and I think it did a fine job in reinvigorating the franchise. I will also say that seeing what J. J. Abrams did with the TOS era, I would definitely like to see what he could do with the TNG era.

One thing that I really liked about the film was the fact that the reset button wasn't used to undo the destruction of Vulcan. Had Berman still been heading the franchise I am sure he would have made the writers cheapen the film by doing so.

    SPOILER

I don't think that Nero's ship was destroyed by the black hole, I believe it was destroyed by the deluge of weapons fire provided by the Enterprise. The black hole merely cleaned up.

I just got back from it. Knew nothing about Star Trek going in, but I was entertained.

The only things that remotely bothered me was the black hole/time travel/alternate reality stuff, but it's a sci-fi movie so it's kind of expected that you have to suspend your disbelief.

I nit pick the fuck out of nearly everything. It's my nature.

But this movie was so awesome it gave me a boner.

Now some shit was weak, like Kirk being kicked off the ship RIGHT where Spock's hiding.

Sylar Spock! was awesome, Kirk and McCoy were funny as hell, and Pegg as Scotty was fucking dead on. I could of done without the Dresden!Kirk (main character getting his ass kicked constantly)

And I want one of those flip up katana's damnit. I don't think I saw anything I could of done without in this movie, it was just long enough, character driven instead of a special effect orgy, and it was what'd you'd expect.

I do have a fucking problem with 4 9$ movie tickets, and then 30$ for 2 soda's, a large popcorn, and a small box of skittles though.

If I remember correctly Kirk went in to pretty much every fight overconfident and got his ass kicked unless the opponent was weaker; it's just part of his character. Pretty reckless imo.

Movie was awesome, would see again, recommend to a friend.

    Particulars:

Romulus was blown up in the future. If that was the future, where was all the fancy new technology brought back by Voyager?

Speaking of, where was all the fancy technology brought back by Voyager in Nemesis?

    <_<

Black holes were wtf. Seriously. Flying a ship through a black hole?

And where were these shields? People kept saying "shields up" but no shields were ever up. Ships kept getting hit by debris.

Would have prefered the Romulan ship to be a bit more imposing rather than just a mess. A Warbird would have been nice.

Liked the look of the film. Unlike others, I liked the contrast of the fairly old style gantries in engineering compared to the shiny bridge. Makes sense they'd make the "public" areas of the ship (especially the flagship) shiny, and not bother with the underbelly.

    Warp was awesome.

    Humour was well placed.

The start of the movie was a bit abrupt, but the pacing went back to what would have been expected after the "prologue".

The ending came about rather too easily, I thought, and without any great drama. I mean, saving Earth was the primary peril, and saving Pike secondary. But Earth gets saved fairly easily, and it's saving Pike that ends up with all the near-death fisticuffs.

Disappointed that Kirk's shirt didn't get ripped once. That broke the Kirk rules of combat: his shirt must get ripped.

The green woman was awesome. A nice homage to the fact that Kirk is always sleeping with the aliens.

First off, the movie makes a lot more sense if you read the prequel comic that was released (sore point).

Now, I don’t consider myself a real hardcore Trekkie or anything, but the shields issue seems pretty obvious to me.

Enterprise ( Archer ) series there was only the hull plating for protection. Skip everything and get to the Next Gen series, and you have actual “shields”. Then they move back to hull plating at the end of voyager.

Also, time travel.... did anyone watch Voyager? Anyone remember the whole star fleet time police...?

Romulin ship... “simple mining vessel” altered with Borg tech. ( comic )

One last thing... Mind Meld. There is no selective Mind Meld experience. EVERYTHING comes across. If you watch any of the series the whole mind meld aspect is a huge deal. My Uncle explained it to in funniest way today.

Mind Melding to Vulcans is like Anal sex to us... People do it, but it isn’t encouraged and isn’t talked about in polite society. There was the whole vulcans going psycho thing from doing it to often. For anyone that remembers, Picard mind melds with the Vulcan Ambassador because he had the mind meld aids thing going on, and then he passed the info to Spock.

Nice and ranty... other than that I loved the movie, and it has a lot of promise if you ignore a shit ton of stuff.

Sorry, have to sort of second this and most of everything else Daffy said. Though I wouldn't have used the F word, yeah, /seconds Daffy.

The issues with Rank and who had it at what point was the worst part of the movie in my opinion. It just kept irking me at odd points. And what's more, it would have been incredibly easy to fix, as I think I said in an earlier post.

    ...

Yeah, you're definitely not a Trekkie, you got things entirely wrong. But you did make some good points as well.

All ships have hull plating. The early Starfleet ships, the NX-01 Enterprise for example, could polarize this hull plating to make it much harder and much stronger by several magnitudes. This plating wasn't any extra armor, it was just the normal plating they used to cover the hull.

The technology Admiral Janeway brought from the future was not hull plating -- it was ablative armor. Two VERY different things.

The Enterprise does have shields, it's been there since the very beginning of TOS. I really didn't pay any attention to that specific part, it's just a given that ships always have shields.

The mind-meld could let either participant read each others mind, or be one sided, where only the initiator reads the others mind. So yeah, it can be selective. You could also use the mind-meld to transport some of a persons personality or even a soul into another -- that is what you were talking about when Sarek melded with Picard, he took some of Picard's calmness and rationality before he went to negotiations, as his own mind was falling apart.

But the part about the "time-police" was accurate enough, as it was both seen in Star Trek: Enterprise (even though it's arguable if this show is canon or not) and in Star Trek: Voyager. I guess they just didn't know or conveniently forgot. I mean, the very existence of them negates the entire plot of the movie.

First of I took leviathans suggestion to heart and read the comics. Alot of my nit picks are now moot.

And the movie has gone up a few notches...

Second,as to the time police thing....
Serious trekie theorizing is about to ensue people

We know from the archer enterprise series... that the timeline when adjusted takes time to reach the time police era. That was a big plot point for the whole xindi thing and how they explained away not knowing stuff about the timeline being from the future.

The time police may not have known what was happening.

    Heres where it gets compless.
    Tos = universe A
    Movie =univers B

Since Nero effectively vanished from Universe A that universe's future time police would have no reason to do anything about it. Dumbed down analogy "Its like he's out of their jurisdiction since he's messing with an alternate universes timeline. Not there's... "

As for Universe B's time police...

I figure since nero and his ship got sent to the past through the blackhole thingy, and created the Universe B by fundamentally altering the federation and its history by eliminating a entire planet and almost wiping out the vulcans entirely, its possible that in the future of that timeline the time police don't exist.

    or more likely...

They do exist but by going back and eliminating Nero they alter their own history since Nero has effectively created their universe by diverging from Universe A's timeline. By going back and correcting it, they erase they're own history and culture.

Hence The reason why the time police never came to the rescue here...

Also ... Lol, porthos. Scotty lost porthos... HA!

    Fucking Daniels!!

    He never does anything right.

And Enterprise series > everything else.

Voyager, TNG and TOS were retarded. DS9 retarded.

Voyager kicked ass... What the hell you talking about.

Voyager and TNG were by far the greats of the genre... Enterprise rounding at 3rd place. Then TOS and the accursed DS9.

Enterprise only gets 3rd because the xindi season was pretty good. and the random gem episode like the borg one.

They tried to hard to get the sex appeal and not enough on the actual plot or character developement.

That and I'm sick of Scott bakula and his weird acting stances...

I feel alone, I actually like Scott Bakula, and Enterprise was awesome much better than Voyager. Also Jolene Blalock is hawter than any of the others.

Also the movie was fucking epic. I never got into any of the other movies but this easily one of my favorite Scifi movies now. My only real complaint was that Kirk got his ass beat way too many times, he should have at least been able to solidly win one of those fights, hopefully that cunt Spock but no dice. Anyways great movie.

Yes, I do suppose those cannons not being cannons would prevent them from effectively firing cannonballs and suchlike.

Incidently, DS9 was the best of all the Star Treks.

I would have to go with Next Generation being the best, just because of Data.
