It was a pretty enjoyable game and had the potential to be awesome -- developers dicking around made it not so. A lot of RPG elements were thrown out of the window. Story was turned on its head. Most ME1 npcs got the shaft. The later DLC was worthless. Some gameplay elements were completely absurd (mining, fucking thermal clips). And so on.

As for ToR... I hope it'll be good, I really do. Lucas' stuff does nothing for me (saw the original movies too late, episodes 1-2-3 sucked ass).

The old Republic setting, as developed by Bioware has the makings to be immerssive, rich and generally fucking addictive. Again, one can only hope.

A lot of what they did in ME2 was in direct response to things people bitched about in ME1. Too many guns, too deep in the RPG, overheating weapons sucked, bad inventory organization, etc. Not all the DLC blew. They did a good job with the one with Liara. The others were fun. They just took the complaints too far, I'm hoping ME3 strikes a good balance between the two games.

As to ToR, as long as it does what they are hyping, it'll be great in my book.

Unfortunately, very few games, especially MMO's, live up to the hype. I am confused about one thing though. I was checking out the website earlier and saw that you could get NPC companions.
Is that in addition to other players in your group or guild playing with you? Does anyone know how the companion thing works? The website was very vague.

Yes, you'll gain a companion somewhere along the line. I assume this is a easy way to give you another choice in how your character turns out, as well as augmenting your character in battle by filling up his or her weaknesses (a 'tanking' pet for Inquisitor/Consular as an example).

Apparently each class will have 5 companions to choose from, and rumours says you'll be able to interact with them quite a lot.

They're basically your ships crew as well. You can summon one to fight along side you, even if you're grouped with other players, while the rest chill back at your ship. You can also send them out to fetch resources for crafting. Each one apparently has a full story and quests attached just like in their other games.

I recall a video saying they could also help you with your professions while you were logged for the night.

Companions are one thing I'm really liking, especially if you could get a hold of HK-47.

It is as he says, you get the NPC´s when you play the Story Quests. Their class and skills are fixed but the still level up with you. You can play with them in most of the missions, they are even in a few Raid/Group-instances. They also help with resource gathering, crafting etc.

And for the interaction, your choices will affect your relationship and you can have even a romance(and sex) with them.

If you want to get anal, shouldn't be SW:TOR? As in the full title?

There are already a few million of him floating around, some followed the light-side, others didn't it. As in SW:KoTOR 1 and 2(happy torak?) The only difference is they existed in separate games.

If I snag HK-47, based on what the devs have said about the game, it'll be my storyline residing along millions of others. It won't cheapen it for me because my story will be different from theirs and well, will be mine. So fuck the mythos, it's defined by how I interact with him. If I see a few dozens others wandering around in some capitol(maybe?) it won't phase me.

Then again, that whole ideal I'm clinging to is based on the devs delivering on their hype. Which brings me to wanting to play the game.

How do you have a rational discussion about enjoyable games with such fanatical people? Dragon Age Origins was shit except for the story? Well, let me clue you in: every BioWare product since the turn of the millennium has pretty much been a turn-based game with a seemingly non-linear but truly linear story that takes many, many hours for people to complete.

Sometimes the combat is excellent. Sometimes it is not. It is never earth-shattering because if you played BioWare games for the combat, I'd say you were misled or are particularly unfamiliar with what a good combat game can be. The true measure of their products has always been the story that accompanied them. I happened to enjoy Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, both Mass Effect stories and both Dragon Age stories. If you did not, that is the crux of your issue with the game. Not the combat and certainly not EA.

Time to wake up. The games had shitloads of money poured into them and they had ample time to be produced. At the end of the day, a game is a game. Even the greatest studios that you hold dear produced shit (per your opinion), even when they were free from influence from evil overlords bent on daring to make an easy profit from a bunch of idiots.

Schro: You realise that you weren't the only person to play KOTOR, yeah? Cause I'm pretty sure there's a HK-47 in each of the however many million copies sold, not to mention the ones pirated.

Right. I went into it after playing Demon's Souls expecting a fun turn-based RPG with a good story. What I got when I played Dragon Age: Origins was a game with a system that would be fun if it wasn't complete fucking bullshit. On top of that, the game's balance, from what I saw, was all but completely nonexistent. If you played a mage- particularly an arcane warrior- the game was easy mode. If you didn't, well, you might as well go on easy mode every time you encounter a boss fight.

Or maybe I played it wrong, that's possible. Either way, that game was very, very frustrating to play, and not in a good way (like Demon's Souls, which, while harsh, always felt fair. If you died, it pretty much always felt like it was your own fault, unlike Dragon Age).

Didn't want to write any words about this- which is why I didn't respond to Schro's post- but welp. Felt like I should try to explain my position some.

Bioware released a vid of the first boss fight in the Eternity Vault. Overall, I was fairly impressed and happy with it. The mechanics were extremely simple, as I'm sure anyone with a small amount of raid experience can see, but its the first boss in the first raid of the game, so I was already expecting that.

Didn't like that the group basically ignored the missiles firing everywhere ability ( where you are apparently supposed to LoS around the dead turrets).
Seemed like you shouldn't be able to ignore mechanics like that and live, while wearing what is presumably crafted/high lvl 4 mans, but I'm sure it's still being tuned, so hopefully they can up the penalty for that.

They ignored it twice. Once earlier, and only one died to it. He was subsequently battle rezzed.

Barely won doesn't really matter. It being possible to ignore mechanics and live so early in raiding is not a good thing. Like I said though, apart from that I was pretty happy with it.
