The Overlord Challenge

A One-shot challenge, or maybe a ficlet using the Evil Overlord List.

For Example: The end of book 2 using:

 

Please don't inflict it on us.

A challenge consists of some plot, plot devices, characters, and themes/endings.

This is not a challenge. This is posting a plot device to have Harry die. I don't see the point in this. It's hardly even funny.

I don't mean to be, well, mean, but at 59 posts, you should know better. You've been here since Aug 2006.

It'll give you an idea on people's thoughts on what a challenge should have. Contribute to the thread if you think its too draconian, but yeah I'm with Amer on this one.

 

The device: The Basilisk has protective eye-were (giving up its killing ability for more protection). Riddle hiding the diary before Harry comes. Not calling the basilisk. pretending to be who Harry thinks him to be instead of boasting about being the Dark Lord.

The point is that Harry doesnt die. Or that Tom doesn't die. Or any other previously unknown concept.
The point is to take a cliche scene out of the books (if you can think of any other) and flipping it around using the Overlord rules.

How much plot, plot devices, characters, and themes/endings do you need to write a ficlet. Is a challenge. Think! If I gave any more for such a short thing, could there any way to surprise the reader.

Ps: Already read Ideas vs Concepts. And I think giving too much, destroys any potential for originality. Its been already said and I'm not a authority on the subject, so what could I contribute.

PsPs: Not my challenge really. Its as old as the List itself.
