Lol, I think Goodkind just took a shot at Obama in The Law of Nines.

She (Jax) is telling the main character (Alex Rahl) about the Big Bad Evil Dudes. The ones that are trying to kill him, corrupt the world, etc.

Jax nodded. "There are always people like Radell Cain who are ready to take advantage of public resentment. He played on people's emotions by blaming everything on those who were still productive and prosperous, saying that they were uncaring and insensitive. People swooned at Cain's simplistic populist notions. He made what was really nothing more than simple greed sound somehow morally righteous. He made taking what others had worked to earn sound like justice. People at it up.
"In the middle of unrest and difficult times, Cain won people over with promises of change--a new vision, a different direction. He made change sound like a miracle solution to all our problems. People mindlessly embraced the notion of change."
"I guess people love hearing that nothing is their fault," Alex said, "that other people are to blame for their troubles."
Jax nodded. "For a lot of people it beats hard work and personal responsibility."

Who knew Goodkind was a political writer? Fun stuff.

This is so lame, it's like the exact same characters were taken and put in a different setting. Goodkind deliberately gives Alex the same habits that Richard had: running his hands through his hair, lifting the gun (sword) out of its holster to make sure it's easy to draw, things like that. You'd think he'd at least try to change it up a little.

They're only available for english in here, which is how I prefer them, really. They were pretty freaking hard to find, though.

It's been 3 years since I read them, and I can't remember it that well, but I do remember that I got bored. I have 5 of the books, and I guess I just dropped the series.

    This. It got boring fast.

Still, I remember liking the protagonist, after he got all badass emperor-like. This was before I even knew what Mary Sue meant, of course... And yeah, the torture scenes were a bit intense. Hm, now I remember dragging these books to school... and that 'giant, black, barbed, pointed, spiked phallus' the monster-demon-thingy summoned had.
