I can think of a lot of things funniet than that actually. Like evil boy-who-lived with no social skills having been raised by Bellatrix, and having human contact with only a few other folk of like mentality, going for say, his apparation licence, or even a job interview, perhaps with the Ministry, or maybe say, Gringotts.

 

I've seen Harry go back to the 1970's the dark ages and all those nifty times but what about back to the late 1800's. Have never seen on of those.

Minister!Harry. Never seen a story where Harry becomes Minister.

 

Yes, I can see it, the power the Dark Lord knows not is the power to bore folk to death using only your voice. Even Volde can't manage that, but jsut about every priest or minister I have ever seen can manage it.

 

I think he meant Minister of Magic.

Lots of stories have him become minister, but I have't seen any that have him utilize his new powers as head of state.

Politician!Harry are rare.

 

I've just thought of something that I haven't read about and thought I'd post it.

Instead of your usual post OOTP story and compulsory shopping spree to the one stop shop for everything illegal right next door to the ministry, Knockturn alley, have Harry go the Leaky Cauldron, and strike a deal with Tom the barkeep.

I can imagine the Leaky Cauldron being the equivalent of a neutral place in the wizarding world, no violence, after all if the wards failed on it because of an attack the muggles would find out.

Now Tom is fairly old and has probably been the barkeep for a long time, and no doubt he hears a lot of things from high position people in the ministry or elsewhere after a few drinks.

I just thought instead of having the usual Harry converting a couple of Order members to spy for him, use Tom the barkeep as everyone knows him and no doubt more than a few talk to him.

Another advantage of this would be that Harry could find out about places other than Knockturn Alley for dark arts items, maybe posing as Tom's assistant under glamour to find out actual hidden places.

I know there is evidence of two Order members seeing through glamours, no doubt Dumbledore's glasses as they can see through invisibility cloaks, and Moody's eye, but I don't think Moody is normal enough to go to a public place like the Leaky Cauldron for a drink ,and Dumbledore would be busy with Order work and maintaining the school.

Just an idea for a different start to a post OOTP story which would be less cliche filled than pretty much anything you can find on fanfic.net, baring the exception of a select few stories.

Breaking out using awesome, unknown magic, the two become fugitives while Dumbledore trains Harry in some of the more...brutal aspects of life and magic.

Harry is thrown back into time to the 18th century, where wizards are still weak and few in number and the Vampires run muggle society as elite aristocrats. Harry is caught between political war between the two for ultiamate control of the muggles.

 

Hmn . . . such possibilities. Oh, I know. Does it count if it's a cliche in another fandom? Because I've been tinkering with an HP fic that uses one of the most hallowed and overused Buffyverse fanfic cliches: Halloween fics!

For the uninitiated, Halloween Fics in Buffy fandom stem from a challenge based on the Season 2 episode "Halloween". A chaos mage named Ethan Rayne casts a spell over Sunnydale so that everyone who bought a costume from his shop was hit by an enchantment that overwrote their personalities and memories so that they essentially become whatever they dressed as for one night, with all props becoming real, including masks and such which fuse to the skin and act as real faces/fangs/claws/etc. In most of the fics based on this challenge, the characters are actually possessed by spirits corresponding to their costumes for the night. Most of the time, they get to keep the memories and skills after the spell wears off. This is solely responsible for 90 percent of all Super!Xander stories. The real problem is that most authors forget that it doesn't really matter what happens during the spell. It's how the characters react afterward that makes the story.

Just change it up a bit, and Ethan Rayne comes to Little Whinging to do some mugglebaiting by turning them all into monsters for a night. He doesn't realize that Harry is at the costume party he's hosting at the youth center. (Just go with it. And make up a reason for Harry to be at a social function during the summer. ;P ). Harry (Well, whoever he's dressed as) deals with the situation and, since he's the only magical person who was caught in the spell, keeps the memories and talents of the person he was. Personally, I say forget giving him the powers and knowledge of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Merlin, etc. Make him possessed by Spock or Data and give him some freakin' common sense.

Anyway, haven't seen that done in this fandom yet, so wanted to see what anyone else thought of it.

The Halloween Idea was partially used in Rorschach's Blot make a wish. It's in one of the oneshots and plays in the Buffy-universe. Willows friend costume is that of Mr. Black... but it does not continue, it's just this night and no Harry.

How about he poses as superman? (He still has a Hero komplex, but it would be interesting if Magic works on Kryptonians and I think Clark was tutored by the holograms of his father... so knowledge would be there)
and contrary to other crossovers he would really be Clark and not some strange twin

 

Maybe make the Halloween idea Pre-Hogwarts, to make it somewhat more believable (could possibly make the Durlesy's bearable, but the after-affects could cause them to truly hate Harry), and set up for a more powerful Harry (but not Super!Harry).

 

Yeah, the main downside to this scenario is that it makes it absurdly easy for Super!Harry stories to justify giving Harry all sorts of "k3w1 p0w3rz" without him having to work for them. On the other hand, it is also a nice, relatively plausible way to give Harry a little extra knowledge and a more balanced worldview (or skewed worldview, if that's what you want to go for). Personally, I think this would work extremely well as a post-OotP story, or even a post-GoF story. I don't think pre-Hogwarts would work as well, since stories with a Harry that young severely limit the possibilities, due to his extreme lack of exposure to pop culture in the Muggle world as well as complete ignorance of the Wizarding world. Not to mention that you can't do any of the really fun things with protagonist less than eleven years old. The story I'm working on with this premise is post-OotP and while Harry gets some skills, he doesn't turn into Harry Potter, God of Magic.

 

Or better yet: Tolerable!Dursleys - Harry goes out for Halloween as Superman, and idly wishes he could do all the stuff Superman could.

His magic reacts...

 

How about a InItForTheMoney!Harry, where Harry turns his responsibility to kill Voldemort into as business opportunity. Gathering sponsors, selling his name and leasing a feature length epic of his adventures etc.

 

That could be nice, very nice.
