Yeah, slight error on my part. I knew he was old... I think in one of the earlier posts I said that he was middle aged and at his peak.

Point well taken though... but I think with a man has been around the block 3 times as often as Dumbledore taking him under his wing... at the least he can decipher the meaning inside the words instead of taking him at face value. At the most, he'll be able to hold his own, playing the role of the good charge while putting his own goals into motion outside of the old man's gaze.

I think that everyone will be able to at least stomach the story, so I will give it a go and hopefully have a first chapter pretty soon. Any advice would be great and even after I start posting I'd like to hear some ideas and ways to maneuver the story.

I'm writing as much for my enjoyment as for yours, so I hope you like it.

Any ideas on what to call it?

Just an update here - I've started.

The hardest part is beginning it the way I want it, but I'll trudge on. Flamel and Dumbledore's first conversation (in the story) is a few comments in, and I'm digging it so far. Flamel is going to be the anti-Dumbledore; still smooth and well-spoken, but sarcastic and condescending at times. Somethings he will keep close to his chest - secrets and plans - but if he has a problem with you he's not going to hold back; his first comment to Dumbledore is, interesting to say the least. I'm going to enjoy writing his character.

Still hoping for thoughts - a possible name, maybe a plot-bunny you think I could use. Anything is good, and I appreciate all feedback.

    Holla!

Here are my suggestions for the name:

    Ancient Blood
    The Alchemist's Son

That's all I can think of right now.

I'm thinking An Alchemist's Apprentice, but I like An Alchemist's Son as well. Thanks for that.

A question for the masses: Would you enjoy a stoic and distant Nicholas or one who speaks his mind? I started writing him as Dumbledore's opposite - doesn't believe everyone can be redeemed; doesn't pull his punches; isn't afraid to cuss at a Nun - but now I wonder if he would work better as a slightly darker version of Dumbledore. That's not to say that he'll be throwing AKs at innocent bystanders but that they both have an aura of power and wisdom, and they are in control in all situations, but Nicholas isn't going to sacrifice himself or anyone he cares about for the greater good of everyone else.

Also, I'm planning on killing of both Flamel's son AND Perenelle, possibly in a Death Eater raid. So that his bond with Harry is ONLY with Harry, and the boy is basically the only thing he keeps drinking his elixer for.

Anyways, holla back and I'll manipulate my story to suit your wants.

Just in case you're thinking about a harlequin romance novel consider this.

And I've seen a few fanfics with "Alchemist's" in the title and none of them have ever resonated with me. Just is one of those bland words in my opinion. The way reading a title like "Harry Potter and the Search for Power" sounds typical and uninteresting. Dunno enough about the actual plot of this fic to suggest much as there's only been mentions of the plot points to kick it off, not the meat of the fic.
