I was under the impression that Maeve and Voldemort have been working together for quite a while now.

Of course this may not have been Voldemort but it seems the most likely guess.

 

Dare I say, Love: There's a reason why Meciel has stuck with Harry, despite his obvious smart-arse/immature attitude. I won't reveal it, but Meciel sees something in Harry she could have had long ago. It's this same something that got her into trouble with the Order of Blackened Denarius in the first place.

With Denarian Lord, we know she sees her children in Harry, so it would be unlikely for Denarian!Amanda to attack Harry.

 

Congratulations to Shezza for cracking 1k reviews on FF.net. As a n00b, I am obligated to say something stupid, so plz upd8 i luv u! u r my favrite auhtor. There, got that out. Almost everything I wanted to say has been said, so I just have to say that it's interesting to see things from Amanda's perspective. One question though. Is it going to be predominately her perspective now, or will it cycle through other people during the 'Hunt for Harry Potter'? Meciel's point of view, or Dumbledores, Amaris, Maeve, etc. would be very cool.

 

I love all the backtracking we're doing, hunting for Shezza's past comments and little hints in the trilogy so far.

Reading the latest snippet, and thinking about the flow of the story, Meciel!Amanda, especially the way it was done, sounds sweet.

My feeling on why Meciel's coin was left is that Maeve's grudge is more against Harry at this point than against Meciel currently. Meciel and Harry's arrangement is a partnership with Harry largely in the driver's seat. So that means that Maeve holds Harry responsible and wants to punish Harry for whatever slights she may feel he committed against her.

As for choosing this point in time, she may have felt that Harry was vulnerable at this point in time, recovering from destroying the Blackened Order for a strike from Winter.

Amanda picking up Meciel's coin seems to me to be close to the finish line in terms of Amanda's character development. As a child, back in Denarian Renegade, she never would have done such a thing. Now, she has grown up and feels more than indebted to Harry for protecting her and helping her develop into a witch to be reckoned with.

Plus, Meciel wants Harry back too, so the Maeve Arc could have that 'woman scorned', ' two women on a rip-roaring rampage of revenge' motif a la Kill Bill.

This all seems to be leading back to the beginning, with the final Voldemort Arc ending this fic. The Maeve Arc may lead into this. For some reason, I have a feeling that even if Meciel and Harry are reunited, there will still be a coin in the future for Amanda. The reading I got from the joining of Amanda and Meciel when Amanda picked up the coin was that Amanda was just jacked into something far larger than herself. Could she give up that kind of juice and the perks that go along with it permanently?

Perhaps Verrine is slated for a reappearance.

 

Superb stuff, I'm not going to speculate on where you might take this, rather I'm simply going to sit back and salivate as Amanda (representative of the fic) continues to scale the heights of Mt Awesome wearing a small skirt so I can perv.

I hope he dies/lives that way! Give Maeve the coin or something. Harry facing Voldemort this way would rock.

Also, I must say, as lame as this is, that was a surprisingly emotional and tender chapter. Amanda's sacrifice was quite touching...But you know what really got to me?

"It had water stains, and...it looked like the place a a druggie would live." Maybe it was seeing it through her eyes, or maybe that she's the person who gives a fuck, but hearing her say it...My chest actually constricted fr a second.

True emotional pay-off! Not mawkish, histrionic bs of soul bonds, but legitimate character building, pay offs, and actions, rather than random espousing of feelings.

Well... Technically Harry isnt seeing her as in talking to her about a deal. Literally yes, that would be a lie, metaphorically no not really. Though.... I dont remember if Fae can lie about that too.


Amanda is pissed. Meciel, I can imagine, is fucking pissed. Someone is going to get their face kicked in in the course of this arc.

Maybe the sword will light up for Amanda. Maybe. Would be drawing a parallel with Harry's image. A Denarian with a Holy Sword.

 

I find it funny. If the sword had lighted for Amanda, she may not have chosen to pick up the coin. With the sword she could have possibly rescued Harry.

Either way, God allowed her to take the coin impulsively by not giving her the sword.

 

Technically, it's not necessarily a lie and that's how I always figured the Fae worked- on technicallities. All Maeve said was that Harry won't see her. That could imply that he wouldn't see her coming for him, he wouldn't see her if she was spying on him, he wouldn't see her when she was in the shower...

She was never specific about it. She never said that they wouldn't meet, she just said that Harry wouldn't see her- which could be at any one time and place. If Harry got an impression from her words, well, sucks to be him.

Anyway. The next chapter might be a while. I'm at uni tomorrow, party on saturday, obligatory rest on Sunday, uni back on Monday and homework cram on Tuesday. I'll leave you guys here to do your 'digging'. Nice picture, Amer.

I doubt Shezza could ever match level of writing shown in My Immortal. That idea was from the realm of Awesome once and never again, though.

Well, he definitely saw her and it was later.

 

"Later" is such a vague term that it's open so many interpretations as to make a Fae giddy with joy.

For instance...

Maeve could take it to mean that he'd see her later that day/week/month/whenever. So if she then sees him after that time period, he hasn't seen her later, he's seen her later than later.

 

It was a thought. Passing and fleeting with no real seriousness behind it.

Since I'm still a Dresden Scrub (I have the books, not going to read them until after finals), I may as well pose this question.

Seeing as how Dumbledore seems to be aligned with Summer, what ramifications will that have on any rescue attempts for Harry in Winter? Will the Summer Court provide assistance? Will Dumbledore be barred from assisting? Or will it not matter at all?

 

Well, theoretically, Dumbledore could make a deal with the Summer Court to help rescue Harry, but I doubt it. With Fawkes, the image I got was that Dumbledore and Fawkes made a deal. Fawkes helped Dumbledore in his fight, and is now accompanying him in exchange for whatever it is Dumbledore gave up. I see no reason why Dumbledore wouldn't be able to go into Winter territory.

I don't think it'll matter at all, really.

Mixed feelings.

On one hand, it's a fairly cool chapter. We finally have an outsider perspective on Meciel and that can't be anything but cool.

On the other hand, Meciel is acting coldly and unpleasantly towards people who can potentially help her save Harry. I was expecting more of a silver-tongued-charismatic-devil routine from her. It just seems a bit illogical.

This attitude can work as well, but I think that someone should at least acknowledge it. Her reply could be something as simple as "Hello, I'm holding Amanda Carpenter hostage?" or something more complex(she's simply worried and doesn't care about being bitchy) but I feel it should be noted.
