KC: D had a fantastic system, but fuck me if I could pull off a combo to save my life. I ended up ditching the swords and just hammering everyone to death. You can't hold your sword with a broken arm, Cuman scum.

I think that you went too ahead with this title. "The Elder Scrolls VI: Somewhere in Illiac Bay" would be more appropriate, it still can be Hammerfell (or both).

Anyway, Skyrim was incredibly simplified and quests generally ranged from boring to completely retarded (Thieves Guild). And Fallout 4's only saving grace was village building.

So I don't have any hopes, maybe beside it being a good mod platform.

Like most Bethesda games, I enjoyed Skyrim for the first playthrough. They're not the greatest games ever, and they were retardedly buggy (with no actual meaningful fixes in sight), but the sense of exploration and, dare I say it, wonder of that first playthrough somehow ends up being enough to keep me hooked in spite of the rest of the game.

I expect ES6 to be the same story; I'll play it through the first time and be more-or-less totally enraptured, and then put it down and never touch it again.

Just being deliberately presumptive and erring on the side I don’t prefer. I’d rather it be Hammerfell but I have a feeling having seen that trailer we’re getting High Rock.

Hammerfell would make more sense from a plot perspective, considering the whole Thalmor thing that Skyrim has set-up.

I just want the depth of magic and politics that was in Morrowind. Hopefully they stop pandering to the casual. Casual fans can still enjoy in-depth content along with the long time fans. I do think the alleged new engine will be very helpful (if its not too buggy) to the combat system as a whole. I just don't really get why they keep reducing the amount of magic from Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim.

It's being made by Bethesda Game Studios, it's not physically possible for it to be anything less than a buggy clusterfuck of barely-functional systems held together by spit, duct-tape, and prayers. The worst of the bugs, as in things that render the game literally unplayable, such as the inevitable save-file corruption and crash-to-desktop bugs will be fixed after the first month or so, so long as they are reliably and easily reproduceable, but the rest are going to have to wait a good six months for the creation kit to be released and then another 6 months or so for the modders to figure out fixes for them all.

As for why the complexity of the series has been trending downward, it's the same reason as every other game; simpler and more intuitive controls lead to more sales, and they're either too incompetent or too lazy to design a magic system that is both intuitive and deep.

It seems Todd Howard is claiming that they're going to take their time with this and aren't willing to pin down an exact release date.

    Good.

Imagine how much better Skyrim would have been at release if they hadn't had a hard on for 11/11/11?

    Not an iota?

I mean, it's been 7 years and in that time they've released Skyrim for literally every platform imaginable, so we know they still actively fiddle with the code, and yet there's still a list of bugs longer than my arm that were in at launch and have yet to be fixed, not to mention all the bugs introduced by the DLC.

It's a demonstrable fact that Bethesda doesn't give a flying fuck about quality control, so no amount of time is going to improve the polish.

At this point, they'll probably end up trying to release it on 22/2/22 to maintain consistency in order to compensate for something they obviously are unable to do in the actual game.

They would probably finish Civil War, but that's it.

I don't want to rain on anyone's hype train (but who cares, you'll have 5 years to get over it), but unless something drastically changes over the next few years, BGS will focus on increasing the scope tenfold instead of reigning it in for a smooth and clean experience. Call me cynical, but there's just no evidence to the contrary.

I mean, look at 76. What's their answer to a largely bland, uninteresting world (imo imo etc)? Increasing the size by four and removing all the NPCs...

Also, it'll absolutely cater to the lowest common denominator. Too many people love Skyrim for those of you in the minority who hated it and want Morrowind again to matter imo.

I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong, but it's been years and there's still been no mention of (meaningfully) updating/fixing the freaking engine. All I get are defenders of theirs saying the game's 'scope' is worth it for the jank. I then look around at what everyone else is doing in the industry and roll my eyes.

I would rather have their alchemy system. Potion-making was actually fun and engaging for once. Instead of just selecting a few ingredients and then clicking 'brew' you actually had to prepare the ingredients properly, put them in in the correct order, and time the brewing fairly accurately.

I'd love it even more if we could experiment with ingredients and brewing processes to create our own unique potions.

And for those that prefer the traditional (fast) way of brewing potions, just have an option in game settings.

Doubt we'll ever get anything like that, but I can dream.

Has that been confirmed? I know this isn't the right thread for it, but from the coverage that I've seen it does seem to imply that.

You talk about a smooth clean experience. What exactly is so jarring for you in Skyrim that you hate the larger worlds?

I mean, I get it. There are some persistent bugs with gear and other shit, but it usually gets patched, and if they don't patch it, then a modder fixes it. Some of my favorite modders are those that go through and fix elements in the game to make them work how they're supposed to.

And again, I get that really shouldn't be the case.

Yes, said on E3 presentation. Both that the world is four times bigger and that all characters you meet are other players.

Maybe someone should make a Fallout76 thread, if they haven't already.

That's kind of a bummer. I thought I watched a bit of the E3 coverage where it was implied that you could play by yourself, but if you wanted to play co-op you could bring your data with you seamlessly - no server queues, etc.

Seems contradictory to say that there would be no NPCs, but there will be a single player aspect. I'm trying to find the video I watched now.

Kingdom Come Deliverance basically has this. If you are crafting something that is around your alchemy level you will need to follow the steps, if it is a good bit below.

Inspired by this trailer, I've begun replaying Skyrim. But there's something different this time. When I played it before, it was typically with the sound very low or muted because my girlfriend was sleeping in the same or next room. This time I have sound shooting directly into my earholes.

    I'm not just hearing it.

When the opening music played, I felt it in my gut and balls. Holy shit. It's like playing for the first time all over again.
