Still enjoyable, but the reason for the certain someone to fall to the dark side was ridiculous.

 

I've had little interest picking this story up in ages, it would seem I was right to not to. Heather's comments a year ago mirrored why I lost interest.

I'm actually beginning to think I just need to stop reading HP crossovers with scifi settings, or at least crossovers without some sort of power equivalent to HP magic.

It has its problems, but you can't say it isn't entertaining.

 

Found it odd that he was so willing to work and discuss his abilities with a bunch of strangers.

 

There are contracts in place, beware of the Pen and the sheet of Paper.

 

He wants to take over huttspace and claim it for Potterdom - he needs an army to do the conquering. He got his army, now he goes and does the conquering.

God I love faction building stories borne out of wacky adventure stories.

 

Ok, necro. Over the past week or so I read the existing fragment of this story, then the side story, then some of this thread but not all. Despite serious flaws I enjoyed it a lot. It hasn't been updated in years and idk if the author is still active. If yes, I suspect that the story was written "into a corner" by the MC basically becoming too powerful for the surrounding universe. Something like that happened with "HP and the Lightning Lord" and the fix was to recycle/rewrite the story as "Saviour of Magic".

One weird premise is that if you knock out a criminal syndicate that operates a bunch of "legitimate" front businesses, you get to keep all the assets of those businesses rather than it being tied up in the courts for ages, clawed back to victims, absorbed by governments, etc. Harry's wealth comes from doing that so it's convenient.

Another is that any mere meatbag (even a powerful one like Darth Tyranus) could defeat the far more physically powerful HK-47 in a lightsaber duel. Another is that HK couldn't (if asked) identify Tyranus as Count Dooku based on publically available photos and so on.

Some minor ones: it's HK rather than Harry who defeats Pre Visla. So shouldn't HK instead of Harry become the leader of the Death Watch? That could have been fun. There are others but you get the idea.

The Death Watch is a little too simple to manipulate, like the primitive civilizations on Star Trek. Suddenly they become anti-slavery activists and lose interest in domestic politics back home?

The side story was originally begun to supply the reader with context missing from the main story. I guess it worked but it would be better if the two stories were merged, into a single story containing changes of perspective or whatever.

As for ships, my first thought was for Bellatrix to connect up with Sidious but later abandon him for the more powerful Harry. But, an even more legendary pairing might be Bellatrix and HK-47 if such a thing is possible, bwahahahahaha.

A couple other SW crossovers I've read recently, both good:

* HP and a Galaxy Far Far Away by Kossboss, https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13768935/1/Harry-Potter-and-A-Galaxy-Far-Far-Away -- Harry in the SW universe becomes an OP supercharacter like in Havoc Side, but by way of becoming a galactic industrial tycoon rather than mayhem monger. WIP last updated a year or so ago, but supposedly not abandoned. 258K words so far.

* First Contact by Inwardtransience, https://archiveofourown.org/works/47230393 - Earth is invaded by the Yuushan Vong (YV) from the New Jedi Chronicles or whatever they are called. The YV lay waste to Earth, the statute of secrecy collapses, but Earth while suffering massive destruction manages to beat back the invasion by combining magical and muggle forces. Female Harry (Beth Potter) is a major fighter, destroying YV spaceships and stuff like that. Later, Earth is visited by representatives from the Empire of the Hand, who open diplomatic relations, and Beth is involved in that too. WIP, updated regularly, the first part of a supposedly 4 part series is now almost finished. 343K words so far.

Ratings: 4/5 for all three stories above, counting "Havoc" and its side story as one.

 

Just read what there is of this, also mostly very good (rating 4/5 like the above, maybe a smidge higher depending on tastes). 344K words and stops just when the scope possibly gets out of hand, but the characters aren't too badly overpowered by then. It's less consistent and more psychological than the other crossovers, and has some gawpy romance and angst here and there, but not too much. And it has a take on the SW universe that I hadn't seen before. Last updated 2017 but the author is still active writing other stuff, so maybe this story will come alive again. I will say it's one of not that many fanfics that attempt really grand themes without falling on its face. Props for that, but it may also explain why the author stepped away.
