I'm agreeing with iztiak. I don't care that he's not asian. He looks close enough sans baby fat for me not to care much. I'm wondering if he actually does all those martial arts moves or is the guy doing it in the trailer a stunt double.

If they hired the kid based on skillz then I say bring on the white devils...

And Zuko's a good character so that kind of puts a nail in the white wash theory.

Though I think they could have got a more imposing guy to play him.

Well, despite the Asian origins of anime, 95% of them have very western looking Caucasian men and women. It's no surprise that when a live action movie is made they cast a round eyed white guy because that's how they actually look. I think most of you will notice there are basically two ethnic groups in anime, white and black. Black ones are rare and everyone else is white. Compare Full Metal Alchemist to another anime. FMA takes place in an alternate world in an alternate Germany and they all have western names. Then compare it to a show like Bleach where the characters live in Japan and have Japanese names. There is no difference in appearance. They are all mostly Caucasian.

And remember, the world of Avatar takes place in its own separate world. There may be Asian writing and names, but that by no means proves they are all Asian.

I'll admit, the trailer plus the little fanbase hissyfits being thrown intrigued me. I've been giving the show a try and it's pretty decent. Reminds me a bit of "Legend of the Seeker" in the whole untrained savior of the world going from town to town helping out, learning life lessons, and clearly not up to being the badass to end all badasses yet. But LotS has cheesy acting, occasionally slick effects, and a very lusty leading lady.

This is a nicktoon and is probably more fun though. Aimed towards kids and you don't expect more than obvious cliched life lessons.

And for those who are netflix members or have access to an active netflix account, you can watch all of season 1 online there. Legally. I cashed in a free month I had from a class action lawsuit a year ago and am up to episode 13 already.

I also don't care that he's not asian. I did read somewhere though that the kid they hired to play Aang is a Martial Arts champion from Texas. Not sure if that's 100% accurate, but if it's true then it's safe to say that's him doing the moves and not a double.

I guess the only thing that pisses me off about this anymore is the fact that the Inuit-like Katara and Sokka are white.

You know, I always thought that Katara was suppose to be the jailbait of the series. Guess they needed her young enough to pair up with the kid playing Aang.

    New trailer has come out,@_@

I have to say I love their interpretation of Katara, I didn't think she looked all that good in the photos, but she looks the part in the trailer, might just be the good costume.
Though some of the larger effects look a little old, (the fire nation boats) the bending looks well done.

I am feeling better about this movie, here is to hoping it wont be a total disappointment.

That... isn't a new trailer. That's a pretty old one, in fact. It was posted June 23, 2009.

The last new official trailer was released for the Super Bowl, I believe. You can youtube it and find it easily enough.

Ahh well its not here anyway, so might as well put it up for people who don't go looking for these things.

That one had similar scenes to the Super Bowl one, but its about twice as long, and has scenes of some of the other characters in full costume ect like Katara and Sokka.

Edit: azreal91, I linked the exact same trailer as you :/ the one at the start of the thread is just a teaser trailer.

Edit Edit: huh, just checked it and every time I tryed to link the longer trailer from that site it linked the teaser :/ anyway, fixed

Sorrows, the link you gave is the same one as in the first post of this thread. Newer trailer is here

EDIT: Nvm, you added the super bowl one while I was getting the link. Still, this one hasn't been posted before as far as I know.

I would have liked it more if they had casted more appropriately but as long as these actors do their job good, I won't complain. The bending does look good and I do hope they made a decent movie out of this.

Will this be a stand alone movie or some sort of Trilogy with perhaps each season as a movie?

Hopefully this movie will be successful and enable the fourth season. Loved animated series, one of the best I've seen.

It looks decent; mildly excited for this one.
I just searched through the site and it would seem that the kid who plays Aang changed quite a bit since the first trailer was released. Hmm.

Guys dont waste your money on this. Its just really bad. Most of the dialogue in the movie is just one liners and the scenes are mostly zoomed in faces from these pretty bad child actors saying the one liners. Aang, Iroh and zuko are alright but everybody else is just no.

The plot was also really scattered. And the one liners didnt help much. If you havent seen the show then you might get confused along the way.

They also cant say Avatar, aang, and several other names like they were said in the show. For avatar they say avotar and for aang, ong.

Aang's fight scenes were ok but the whole element bending didnt seem right. In the cartoon, the martial arts and the bending were together. But the movie just made it feel like you made a certain move and then afterwards you can throw fire or water or rocks.
There was a stupid scene where like five earthbenders are working together to throw a rock the size of my normal sized pillow.

And for some reason they changed Avatar Roku into a dragon. Well we're never told if its actually him but still it was random

The season was too big to be filled in what amounts to an hour and 40 mins. Wait til it comes out on redbox or something or find it online but don't give Shyamalan money for this fail movie.

Only thing I liked was the Fire nation ships (which were always in the background and never a major setting which sucked) and Azula but that bitch is crazy (which is probably why i liked her) and it only showed her for about 40 seconds right at the end (which i didnt like).

    also 3D sucks

Review (more like a bashing) on io9- http://io9.com/5576076/m-night-shyamalan-finally-made-a-comedy

I'v read a few reviews so far, mostly mixed. It is a kids movie(which is major fail but Shyamalan did come up with the idea from HIS kid).

I will watch it, but I probably wont be queuing up the day it is released.

God that movie was horrible. Th only good thing was the fact that my friends and I had the theater to our selves and we could criticize the movie as loudly as we wanted.

The whole thing felt like a rough draft, almost like Shyamalan saw the story board and said "Hey, this looks good enough. Let's shoot this thing." The acting was terrible all the way around, even the adults sucked, though I don't know how much of that is related to bad directing and an even worse script and how much of it is because of lack of talent.

The bending was a huge dissapointment. Not only did 'Ahng' not stick to Tai Chi when water bending, the general feeling was that to bend an element you had to do a whole series of martial arts moves to accomplish anything. The only fight that resembled the animated series' style was when Katara was fighting Zuko. Unfortunately that exchange only lasted long enough for Katara to block and get knocked out by a slow moving fire ball.

One thing that really bothered me was that the movie seemed to revolve around the Fire Nation. Really, the most dialogue came from them, leaving little time for Aang and co.

There were times when I just stared at the screen dumbfounded that Shyamalan was able to get away with some of the writing. For example, the was a scene where an earth bender was talking to Aang about the fire nation. He said, "They came with machines, machines made of metal." I get that he was trying to be dramatic (trying and failing), but really. What else would the Fire Nation use to build their weapons? Certainly not wood. In another scene Katara delivered this gem, "It's time that we showed them that we believe in our beliefs just as much as they believe in theirs." Yeah.

The characters were like card board cutouts, and after the first half hour it didn't seem like they were even trying to make them real any more. There was a brief moment in the Southern Ice Village when Appa smashed Sokka and I was briefly reminded of the series, but other than that, nothing.

The first season had to much in it to fit in a two hour movie. This lead to quite a bit of info dumping. In one scene Zuko and his uncle 'Ear-oh' were sitting under a pavillion. Uncle (who is portrayed as a bit of a pimp) asks why Zuko doesn't stop chasing the Avatar. In response Zuko says "Let me show you." Then pretty randomly (or so it seemed to me) Zuko calls over a young boy and asks him what he knew of the prince. This lead to a flashback being narrated by said boy. Afterward Zuko thanks the boy and the scene ends. Talk about bad information integration.

Also, Momo popped up only long enough for Sokka to freak out (in a very unfunny manner) and Aang to assure him that lemurs were not, in fact, poisonous.

TL;DR Shyamalan would be hard pressed to make a worse movie, and no one above the age of seven would like this piece of crap.

This is a pity -- I was really looking forward to this movie in the hopes that it would be good. I enjoyed the series that came on TV a great deal.

Sounds like it's fail all around though.

I went in with low expectations. I've never read the books or watched the television series, and had little interest in it to be honest. The only reason I went was because my sober friend bought the tickets. Waste of money and time. Barely any plot, horrible acting, and no character development.

I'd rather masturbate with Icy Hot for lube than be forced to watch this again or it's upcoming sequel.
