Challenge #1: The Light Lord
Summary: After OotP, Harry begins to realize he'll need more knowledge than Hogwarts can offer him. Therefore he starts doing all the stereotypical Knockturn Alley crud, buying all those Dark Arts books and dragonhide robes and a wand holster and stuff. He manages to keep this all hidden from Dumbledore and the Order until he goes back to Hogwarts. When he starts the DA up again and begins teaching people the Dark Arts, Dumbledore wisens up. At that point he places a powerful spell on Harry- he will be absolutely unable to use any Dark Magic. Attempting to do so will result in... nothing. Or a humorous effect, like a cruciatus reproducing a rictusempra. It depends on the direction the author wants to take. It could easily be a humor fic, with Harry getting woefully funny effects every time he used a dark curse, or it could be a fully serious fic with Harry getting seriously pissed off by the results of his spells.

After some time with his new... disability, he will leave Hogwarts with a group of devoted DA followers. Obviously some will be disgusted by his use of the dark arts and leave immediately upon his start of teaching them, whilst others he'll manage to keep within his grasp through some philosophical junk about having to kill Voldemort by any means necessary.

There are other elements, but it's best to leave the order and such to the author. So rules time!

Rules:
*Harry must never regain the ability to do dark magic. Dumbledore's block is permanent. He may, however, use interesting ways to get around his lack of dark magic(i.e. levitating people out windows)
*Harry will have Ginny around as his arm candy... but only for the purpose of her being the one person who would never betray him due to loving him. He uses her to perform every dark ritual he needs done, always keeps her with him for raids... that kind of thing. He will not be faithful to her.
*Harry must defeat both Voldemort and Dumbledore with a particularly nasty application of a Light spell.
*Ron must be the one that betrays Harry and tips off Dumbledore to Harry's dark activities in the DA.
*Hermione will remain with Harry for the duration of his anti-Voldemort campaign, but when he starts trying to conquer the wizarding world, she'll defect to the other side
*Harry, while experimenting the extent of his ability with Light Magic, manages to invent a way to kill a dementor. He uses this to control the dementors through fear.
*To compensate for his lack of Dark magic, his light abilities will be amplified.
*With losing his ability to use Dark magic, Harry also loses his parseltongue abilities.

If this is too many restrictions, tell me. First challenge and all that.

 

Meh, it's okay. I'm a little miffed on the whole "No Dark Magic" no spell should do that. I like it, but it seems really cliche, I just know I've seen hundreds like this. How do you just completely block a whole range of spells that someone is able to do?

Not too many rules, mine have a lot of rules, but whatever.

 

I soppose that if Dumbledore had Harry's wand he could block a lot of the powerful spells in the field of Dark Magic, but that would only be the ones that he specificlly targets. So he could make it impossible for Harry's wand to perform a dark cutting curse for exampe, but if Harry created a new Dark Cutting Curse then that would work fine.

Perhaps Harry gets another wand that while nowhere near as poweful or compatable than his old wand, can cast the spells.

If you go this way I think it would be more likely to block the wand than Harry's ablity to cast these spells.

 

Why not have Harry find a real reason to not use dark magic. Then he can learn light magic with full force. Dumbledore could then be helpless when Harry gets more brutal but only using light magic. Why not turn the cliche argument around and let him find out that not only is the dark is indeed inherently evil but the light not inherently good in return. Who can argue his use of light magic then? That would be a good chance to make up some real light spells and not misused levitation or summening. Something like <purge the soul from evil> or <bring happiness/laziness to everyone>.

And yeah this was a more than a year old bump for an unspectacular challenge. Let's all just shut up on this subject now.
