The problem was Howdy was referring to points that have not been tackled in the story as yet. They are slated to appear in future chapters. It is a case of wanting to know how plot points are handled and progress, while still in the first couple of chapters of the story.

    Look.

Anytime you have characters giving advice to escape or there's talk of a "rescue attempt," someone is doing something wrong. The actions your Dumbledore has taken can not be written off as benevolent if everyone agrees that they are unjust and unwarranted.

<Sigh> Howdy, your dislike of evil!Dumbledore as a genre is perfectly legitimate. The problem is that this story is not within that genre. Dumbledore locking Harry away for the summer is a political move, because he wants to keep Harry away from the influence of those adults (the Malfoys, Rosiers, etc.) who don't like Dumbledore's agenda.

Nobody ever said that Dumbledore was benevolent here, but no doubt Dumbledore would pretend to be so when talking to Harry: "My dear boy, you had to stay at Privet Drive for your own protection, etc."

Finally, there is no obvious crime being committed here, and the general public is not aware of Harry's predicament. The only people calling it a "rescue attempt" are Harry's small cabal of friends, who are acting even against the wishes of the adults.

Back on topic, Chapter 3 is up.

Completely irrelevant, given that we as readers are shown that Harry needs to be rescued.

It's one thing to show Harry's friends overreacting, and quite another to show us both sides of the story and confirm that the concerned parties are incorrect and that the adults are simply failing to act out of fear and skepticism.

I may not be a law scholar, but I'm fairly certain that it isn't legal to lock up someone without any accountability whatsoever despite concerns about the prisoner's welfare. Why this would be viewed as alright in the Wizarding World is beyond me.

This would literally be akin to some poor kid's father locking him in the basement all summer and not allowing the authorities to investigate any concerns of child abuse despite voiced concerns.

In this story I got the sense that Bones = Fudge, and that's not particularly flattering given what we know about her from canon.

Anyways, I'm done. The point I'm trying to make is that the author, whether he intended to or not, has painted Dumbledore in the last few chapters as a no shit villain. It's disappointing compared with the malignant yet subtle dance that was shown in the first book.
