In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
And have him invoke the power of a foursome. Him, the Abbots, and Susan. ;););)

No, seriously, he should kill them. Kill them good.

This is eerily similar to Voldemort in GOF at the graveyard.

It is an interesting concept the absorption of families, but impractical at least in my story. Otherwise, the prominent death eater families would have used this tactic to absorb their opposition. Might make for an interestingly dark universe if someone were to write that kind of plot bunny.

^WM^ - Wisdom's mountain (Here is your very own asci sig) It does sound very familiar, wonder if Harry will realize it?

And that is bad because..? Also, Peter is adult, and he blasted Harry into the window without thinking with possible fatal consequences to the Harry and the war. He is not surrounded by enemies and fully trained wizard. I hope Harry blast him into the wall, breaks few Abbot bones or something similar, before Dumbledore end the rest stun him.

I never said it was bad, just eerie. I think Harry's transition to the dark is shown, at least in part, here.

I hate you. Your cruel. You need to go to church( or whatever religon you follow).

I like it. Peter Abbott reminds me of Dumbledore in some fics where he defends Snape constantly and is extremely stubborn and beleives he can do no wrong.

Harry's dealing with Hannah was great. It show her that she and her sister my have actually training in the mind arts but Harry's brute force is more than enough to equal them.

Peter Abbott pissed me off in his attacking Harry. Harry has a right to be pissed. Abbott tried to kill him. Maybe he have over reacted but still he tried to kill him. Harry standing up to him shows to all of them he may be young and inexperienced but is Lord Potter and understands his strengths and knows how to use them and is willing to stand up and accept his actions as well as deal with them.

I think that To Fight the Coming Darkness as the title is a foreshadowing for the struggle within Harry to fight the darkness in the world and fight the darkness that is growing within himself. He is changing from an wide eyed wizard in awe of his teachers and his world to a Wizard that is willing to fight and understands what he has to do and wants to do it his way. He is powerful and uses his power. As the story has progressed I see Harry becoming perphaps what the sorting hat saw him becoming all along. His inner slytherin side is growing and it shows. Harry is making the change from a stauch light wizard to a wizard who will use whatever he needs to do what needs to be done. Dumbledore, the order, Tom, the death eaters, and every one else caught up in the middle dont seem to see that Harry Potter is becoming a Young Lord who has to and is willing to fight.

Please I am begging you skip the next chapt of your other story and update this 1 a week ahead.

    Duel of Houses...Again

    Jbern,

It's your story so you can, and probably will, skip my idea if you like. However, let me clairfy my idea (I am rather pleased with it after all). I don't think the DE's could use this duel for absorb most families. Perhaps a certain context must be observed...designed to prevent backstabbing wizards from killing the Lords of Houses..or trying to kill them at least. The idea I had was that this was only something that could be invoked when a lesser lord attacks a higher lord. Namely Harry in this case.

As to the Code, think about it this way. The Weasleys and Malfoys have a long history of hatred. They're also short tempered. Perhaps the hatred between the two stems from a Malfoy barely surviving a duel with a Weasley. He knows that he can't beat Weasley unless he strikes first, and only then if he's lucky, so he uses his cunning and passes the "Duel of Houses" law in the Wizengamot: "Any Lord who attacks another Lord of equal or greater blood purity can be challenged to a Duel of the Houses. The challenge must be accepted on pain of loss of magic and the duel will be to the death. The winner must accept the family of the loser as his own." Weasley, like all other Weasleys, has a large family and chooses to withdraw rather than take the chance of having his children brought up by a Malfoy.

Just an idea. Someone, please use it in a fic cause I'd love to read it.

Oh don't get me wrong, I thought it was a pretty good idea. I just didn't see how it would be practical for me to implement in this story. It could work very well in someone elses.

Dranco, sorry I enjoy writing both stories for different reasons plus the extra time helps me think about how I want to do the next chapter.

So much for my idea... :(

Oh, very well...so you won't use my idea. It's cool, I'm neither upset or offended and I'll won't mention it again...after this anyways. You see, I was rather drunk when I wrote my last post and the explaination of my idea that I gave was so...horrible...that I feel compelled to revisit it one more time before banishing it to the realms of possiblity. So now, without futher adue, my idea:

In his reply Jbern wrote that he thought that the use of my idea would make for a truly frightening political landscape and thought that the DE's would use the "Duel of Houses" to take over the Wizengamot. Personally, I just don't see that happening. Here's why:

    1) In my view the Code would only allow a "Duel of Houses" under some very specific terms. Unlike Malfoy's challenge to Harry in their first year, you wouldn't be able to just challenge someone at a drop of the hat. Specific conditons would have to be in place. I'd imagine that since the Code relates to the behavior of Lords & Barons with other Lords and Barons, Peter Abbott's assault on Harry Potter qualifies not because he attacked Harry, but because it was an unprovoked attack when his back was turned as well as the fact that they're both the heads of their respective families.

    2) Also, in my view (since this is my idea here), I would imagine that the last thing a pureblood like Malfoy would want would to issue a challenge or be issued one. To explain that let me further explain what I think the Duel would entail. Once a challenge is issued it cannot be taken back and both parties would be forced to complete the Duel (sort of like the Goblet of Fire forced Harry to compete in the tournament). The loser of the Duel would not only lose his life, but his entire family would cease to exist as it would be absorbed into the winner's family. The loses entire fortune, properties, businesses, seats on the Wizengamot, and even familiy members would essentially become the property (or wards in the case of family members) of the winner.

Think about it for a moment here. If Lucius Malfoy challenged Arthur Weasley to a Duel he would most probably win. BUT, he might loss if Arthur got lucky. Can you imagine the indignity of it all for someone like Malfoy? The Malfoy forturne would be transfered to the Weasley vaults, any businesses or properties owned by the Malfoys would go to the Weasleys, the Malfoy seats on the Wizengamot (I think they have 11 votes in your story) would go to the Weasleys, and the Malfoy family would become extinct as both Draco and Narcissa would become Weasleys. For someone as obsessed about the purity of blood and familial lineage like Malfoy and his DE friends are, losing a duel would be the worst thing imaginable. If you wanted to make it even more interesting you could have it be so that the loser's family cannot, on pain of loss of magic or life, take any sort of revenge against the winner or the winner's family. Sort of how you didn't let Voldemort blast Peter because of the life debt he owed him.

    3) I stated earlier that I thought that the Code and the Duel was probably something thought up by pureblooded bastards like Malfoy. I'd like to retract that statement. In fact, what if the whole Code and Duel thing was thought up by a Weasley a few hundred years ago? That could go a long way to explaing why the Malfoys hate the Weasleys so much. Not only do the consort with mudbloods and halfbloods, but if they pushed this Code through the Wizengamot it would greatly curtail the Malfoys (and other like-minded purebloods) ambitions. The existance of the Code could even go a long way to explaining why Slytherins are so distrusted by people like the Weasleys. Not because they are ambitious, though there is that, but because in order to work their way around the Code you have to be very cunning. And, as well all know, cunning and sneakiness are Slytherin traits. The Code doesn't fully stop the schemes of purebloods like Malfoy, but it could, and probably would, go a long way to making life a great deal more difficult for them. And that could be one reason why the Malfoys hate the Weasleys so much: they've never forgotten that it was a Weasley who put the brakes on a great many of their schemes through this Code.

    4) Why, if you unlikely adopt this idea, Harry Potter should challenge Peter Abbott. Firstly, because he can. Challenging Abbott would allow him to remove a great threat (I don't imagine that Peter Abbott is willing to forget what Harry did to Hannah any time soon. While he might wait till Voldemort is dead, his williness to curse Harry in the back tells me he'd be a major thorn in Harry's side in the future). Secondly, because winning the Duel against Abbott would help him with the war effort. He'd become more powerful politically and financially AND as the newfound Lord of the House of Abbott-Black-Potter he would be able to deal with Chelsea and Hannah as he saw fit. Not that he'd kill them too, but he could order them to swear to never use their powers against others again.

There, my rant is finished and my idea is now cast into the realms of possiblity.

I would like to ask one thing more: while I like your Bungle story, this story is far superior. Please keep up the great work and make your updates on this story much more frequent as this is quickly becoming my favorite story.

I'll be frank; this idea somes TERRIBLE. I'm not trying to be mean here, and it could just be me, but I REALLY don't like this idea. !.) I've seen similar things beffroe, and 2.) it would leave a world run by Voldemorts and Malfoy's. YOur sexcond arguement doens't make much sense as I'm sure in thiese situations Malfoy would be POSITIVE that he could beat Weasley.

FrHOnestly, this idea needs some more time in the oven. It hasn't been cooked through yet.

AThat's my toughts, and I could be wrong, but...

I dont personally like the idea it just seems like something the H/G shippers use for super Harry lord of 10+ houses fic where Harry is a pussy and is all "Voldemort you killed my friends feel the power of my love" fic.

I agree with you though that this fic needs 2 be updated more often. But I can understand that it takes time.

So you don't like my idea...

So you don't like my idea...it's cool. Personally, I disagree with you, but then it was my idea. Honestly though, I don't think in this instance it could be made to make a super-harry. I dislike Super-Harry on general principle. I like it when he kicks ass and takes names, but giving him access to a vault with everything he'll ever need in it and unlimited magical power generally ruins a story. Unless, of course, the story is supposed to be amusing/tounge-in-cheek or he works his ass off to be a super-harry throughout the whole story. For the record though, what I had in mind couldn't be used to create a super-harry or super-pureblood as specific conditions would have to be in place to challenge someone. Also, just because Harry would win doesn't mean Dumbledore and all wouldn't make his life hell afterwards. In my idea he'd be within his rights to challenge Abbott, but it might be more trouble than its worth in the long run. Especially once the press heard about it. It would really all depend on how an author uses it as a plot device. For example, personally I think the idea of a horcuxe is a good idea...but the way JKR implimented it leaves a LOT to be desired. She could have used the whole horcuxe plot a lot more effectivley if she had started out with it rather than pulling it out of her ass in book six!

Um, try not to double post please.

Personaly, I like your idea. It seemed convincing enough its just that with it the way it is a master duelist could go around provoking people into attacking him so he could issue a challenge.

If you got the time I think you should think hard and give us some of these rules for the code, it would go a long way in endearing people to your idea.

(Oh And Jbern... pleeease put him in the hosptial for that sneak attack. :) )

I see what you mean by the master duelist provoking others. I'm not going to go much further into my idea since I'm not an author, but I'd imagine that the Code ditates behaviors that Lords of Families must adhere to. I was actually thinking that it would be along the lines of not attacking other Lords or their heirs or something like that. In other words, it keeps people like Malfoy limited to just political backstabbing rather than literal backstabbing. For example, if Malfoy killed Arthur Bill could challenge him or if he tried to Kill Arthur or Bill and failed Arthur could challenge him.

In fact, if anything I'd imagine that because the Duel in my idea is circumstance specific, Malfoy can't challenge hardly anyone because he doesn't have cause. On the other hand, I'd imagine that a LOT of people have cause to challenge Malfoy...they just have chosen not to out of fear. In fact, if you wanted to make it interesting you could have it so that if you provoke someone into challenging you (like you suggested Malfoy would do) you pay a painful penalty. (This is magic after all!) It could be interesting that only an honorable challenge would be accepted and an unhonorable challenge would cause the challenger to lose his magic or fight with a penalty.

In my mind a Duel is not something you can get a proxy for. Regardless of the actual praticulars, I would think that the last thing anyone would want is to be issued a challenge. Sure a master duelist would probably win, but it's a fair fight so they might lose too. And if they lost, woe to them and their family.
