For me it's a toss up between Home Alone and Die Hard, but I think Home Alone edges it out for being more Christmasy and more family-friendly (casual violence aside).

Poll choices are limited so do a write-in if your movie isn't listed. I originally wanted to include the following:

    Die Hard
    Elf
    Gremlins
    The Holiday
    Home Alone
    How the Grinch Stole Christmas
    It's a Wonderful Life
    Jingle All the Way
    Love Actually
    Miracle on 34th Street
    Muppet Christmas Carol
    National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
    The Snowman

Love Actually, just for the opening narration, don't @ me

Yes, the subplot with Keira Knightley is kinda creepy, just skip it

A Muppet Christmas Carol is, without doubt, the best. It is fun, without being dumb fun. It is child-friendly without being childish. It is grown-up without being 'adult'. It is warm and heartfelt and it is not so long that people lose interest. You don't need to pay attention to it. Kids can be opening their presents, and all that's really needed is to drop in every now and then to join in on the musical numbers. About the only complaint that could be levelled against it is that it's muppets and so therefore inherently silly. The people raising this complaint have no warmth in their souls, and a lump of coal for a heart. Yes, it's silly, but why is that a bad thing? It's also incredibly sincere, and has an actual message.

A Christmas Carol is probably the best Christmas story, and the Muppets Christmas Carol is the best version of that story ever put to film. It's not even a competition.

    I resemble that.

Muppet Christmas Carol (for aforementioned reasons) > Home Alone (because sometimes, all you need is mindless slapstick) > others.

So, I think I have to divide my answers. First is classic christmas and second is christmas comedy. Classic christmas is your films like Rudolph the red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, It's a wonderful life, etc. Comedy is more your modern ones like Home Alone, Elf, etf.

So for classic, I'm going to say A Christmas Carol (specifically the Muppets one) and for Comedy Home Alone.

My family has watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation every year for at least a decade now so have to go with that.

Though two newer movies that aren't on the poll, which I hope will catch on with the fam. The first, 'Klaus' which came out out last year was a wonderful sweet origin story for Santa. The other is one that just came out 'Fatman' starring Mel Gibson, and by god it was funny.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is easily my favourite Christmas movie, though I can see the argument that it's actually a Halloween movie. If that doesn't count then Gremlins is a solid runner-up.

I saw Rise of the Guardians for the first time at the weekend, I think its possibly one of the better Christmas films that I've seen from recent years.

I'm more partial to A Flintstones Christmas Carol than I am to the Muppet version, don't get me wrong the Muppets was good but not as good as the Flintstones.

Klaus is worth a watch - an original Netflix animation about a postman in a remote island, and his friendship (of sorts) with the grumpy woodsman Klaus. Not really in the running for best Christmas movie, but light-hearted, cheerful fun.

The Hebrew Hammer is the best Christmas movie. It's peak 90's comedy.

I never watched many Christmas films as a lass, but I finally saw Die Hard and Home Alone last Christmas.

Home Alone - meh. Not sure I get the hype. Die Hard fuckin' rocks though.

Im surprised no one has said A Christmas Story. Just an all-timer. It being a sort of anthology helps too, because there are so many great segments/bits throughout.
