Because they have been married 19 years too? And 99% of the time it will make him look like a twat.

What if they go the austin powers route...Fem bot Gin!

And the children are hyper advanced magical toasters...

Harry offs them all and then continues life as a swinging bachelor... free to bone whatever female crosses his path.

I don't know if fanfiction will die - but I'll keep reading the stories I like if they still update, and I'll write more of mine. I just hope they include Snape dying.

I don't think it's a big deal. Fanfiction has survived after each book no matter how crappy it has been. After the 5th book we still saw fanfiction with Sirius. The seventh book changes nothing. We will still see Au's, rewrites, and time travel. Some will cut out the seventh book entirely, others will try and incorporate it as best they can.
All you have to do is cut out the epilogue. It doesn't make a difference its not like many fics go nineteen years into the future anyway

As to the future of fanfiction...

Probably just me... But for some odd reason, after reading the book I have the sudden urge to write Harry/Hermione fics and listen to Linkin Park...?

Even now a plot bunny is forming as I listen to When Dreaming Ends...

    Strange...

I don't we'll see much post-epilogue fanfiction, HG or otherwise. Even without the epilogue, the situation is crappy. No Tonks, Dobby and a few other characters, Ginny romance and the worst thing - Harry's gay characterization.

Personally, his attitude towards power displayed by him giving up the uber-wand and Resurrection Stone is what bugged me the most. I mean, it's pathetic, him wanting to be just an ordinary powerless shmock; I don't think I could do much with a Harry like this.

As for possibilities, I see a lot of options with someone finding the Resurrection Stone and using it on regular bases; maybe even Harry - his job could be a necromantic detective. The wand could be interesting too, but honestly, that whole ownership crap had complicated things so much that I don't think many people will bother with it at all.

Of course, there will certainly be a whole new genre exploring the relations between Grindewald and Dumbledore. Too bad JKR had portrayed Grin as a handsome daredevil; I already see a flood of steamy summer romances featuring any combination of those two and Dumbles' retarded sister/Marry Sue who's actually concealing her abilities... meh.

All I know is that more 'Snape raped Lilly, and through that Harry is actually his son' fics will start to make an appearance.

Sounds a bit like a failed TV show called Raines. He went about solving crimes while talking to the person that has been murdered. Might be interesting to read, but it'd still involve people thinking he was a crackhead for talking to people that aren't there, so he'd end up in an institution or something.

More AU's and time travel fic will appear, but that is natural, this being the end of the series. Post DH fanfic still has a lot to work with. Obviously, you can ignore the epilogue. But it was about 10 years between DH and Harry having the first kid- plenty of time for a Dark Lord or two!

You want Honks? There's a handy resurrection stone lying around and a Dark Prodigy!Harry just waiting to fix the whole semi-ghosts thing. Same for Hellatrix. And then there's all the Grindelwald and Dumbledore potential- someone posted a challenge about it, but think of what would have happened if Ariana hadn't died!

And Ariana- there's a brand new ship right there. I, as a proud member of the AFC, can't wait for the first time travel Hariana fic. Of course, this will lead to an increase in abused!exploding magic!Harry, but the potential for good fanfic her character has is enormous.

I personally think that writers will have to get creative. Once they get creative, it will spawn a whole new genre of cliches, but at least we'll have more genres other then indy!Harry to play with.

Since when did Harry EVER get what he wanted? All he ever wanted was to be a normal teenager. He never wanted to be the Chosen One. He never wanted to go Horcrux hunting, and he certainly never wanted even more fame for having offed Voldemort a second time.

There are plenty of post-series plots that can be used. Just realise that it doesn't matter what Harry wants. He's now the defeater of Voldemort and no matter how he did it he will be considered the most powerful wizard around. Every two-bit badguy will always be gunning for him.

All it takes is a little thought and a little effort.

But your forgetting one thing. 19 with an average life span of 150 years instead of 80 is like saying they were married for 9 years in real life. And people do get divorced after 10 years of marriage. Especially if they get married very young. Someone who is 32 is very different than someone who is 22. While I'm not saying it's going to happen, the fact that it can shouldn't be ruled out.

I think ignoring the epilogue, stories could be written about Harry becoming the Master of Death in a more real way with the Elder Wand, Cloak, and Resurrection Stone. The 7th book gave us some pretty good ways to branch off of in my opinion.

Very much so. Snape's betrayal of Dumbledore was the one and only good thing in HBP.

I dunno if it could be developed into more than a one-shot, but I've been thinking that this Elder Wand business - accidentally most likely - could provide the sorely missing motivation for Snape to accept the Unbreakable Vow in Spinner's End. Dumbledore had asked him to kill him in case it was necessary in order to die on his own terms - undefeated. What Snape actually did was pledging his life to do it if, and only if, Draco doesn't manage (what Dumbledore wanted to prevent). This is not quite what Dumbledore had in mind, ergo: Snape did not intend to kill him on the old man's terms but on his own. If he had succeeded in different circumstances, Snape would have gained ownership of the Elder Wand. If he had known that Dumbledore was the current owner (which was not that hard to figure out), he'd have a first-rate sneakily-evil motive for that otherwise stupid oath.
