This is completly of topic but when the hell did Sree (as he is now known) change his username? I only just noticed that.

 

I made a lengthy post on this god knows when, awhile back at least. Someone who wants a cookie could dig it up. I used to wonder if Neville was the Pettigrew, since he's so insane weak, but you never really see Neville in anyone's shadow, he's just desperate for attention. Then again I could see that being bad as well, but after what happened with his parents I doubt Neville'd go dark unless it was under a bribe of eternal torture for Bella.

He's constantly in Harry's shadow over everything, the guy's rich, his sister wants to screw him, his own family seems to like Harry better, etc, etc.

I wouldn't blame Ron one bit for backstabbing and turning dark(I'd rather expect it actually) JKR could of done that in HBP, but it seems she forgot about any sort of cool plot twists and made the book as boring as sin.

Hrm. the more I think about it, with JKR's obsession with duality/opposites, it'd make more sense for Draco to be this generations Peter, except his opposite. (Dark going to Light instead of Light to Dark) And I agree you should've added Draco to the poll Chuck, up till HBP he was a worthless waste, who couldn't even beat a half blood raised in a muggleworld kept ignorant of magic till Hogwarts Potter, while he had his whole life infested with pureblood dark arts.

He's an orphan. He's living with his strict grandmother who kept him overprotected. He's clumsy and forgetfull. His magic is acting up all the time (maybe coz he is forced to use inaproprate wand). He also has psychological problems.

But even with all that, he's the best in herbology (where he don't have to interact with other people). He also beats Ron in the DA. He's trying very hard to overcome his problems.

Ron on the other hand is reasonably athletic, average looking and average powerful. He has family behind him and older brothers to help him out with whatever he needs. Unlike Neville, he's also very ambitious.

But even with all that, he's spending all his time bitching about his 'cruel' fate, like not having enough money to buy expensive crap is compareable to growing up as an orphan. He also choses not to follow his ambitions but waste his time playing games and generally playing reluctant tagalong to his famous 'friend'. Even with all the Hermione's dragging and yapping about homework, he's still barely average.

Then there's his jealousy. It's common misconception to think that the episode in 4th year is the only time he shows it. What about that whole Krum thing? What about when he realizes that Pig (which is a GIFT from Sirius, mind you) is worse than Hedwig ("Everything I own is crap"). What about how he flushes every time someone (ex Draco) mentiones how poor he is? Hell, even in HBP, which is full with that friends forever crap, there was a moment when Ron got jealous over something (maybe Sirius' will but I'm not sure)...

Not to mention that Ron has EVERY reason to be jealous of Harry, who in his eyes has it all - looks, chicks, money, talent & fame. It's normal for someone as petty as Ron to feel jealous.

 

Petty indeed, if it wasn't like you said with all the Friends for life shit i could see him going dark, or at least following Percy. But seeing as he is a natural dumb ass who has little to no knowledge of the workings of magic he'd never make it anywhere. Can't believe JKR is sending that prissy little cock sucker with Harry on his quest, he'll only manage to cannon fodder absolutly pathetic!

 

Then again, the way she screwed up Harry, it's not like he'll have much better chance. It'll probably end up with the beaver doing all the work and those two morons just stumbling around, until Harry kills Voldemort with Cupid's arrow and marry the stalker...

I mean ron is always on harry's dick ever since the first sentence you see him in. he's pretty much a celeb stalker in the fact that he trys to be friends with harry quickly.

 

Thank you IP, I was wanting to post something similar as I have in the past, but I don't have it in me today to listen to all the "Ron is teh soper ultimate loyal friend 1!1 and he's never, ever shown any jealous cept once!" arguments.

Ron's a husk of a character, and all he's done in canon is keep Harry focused on a stupid game that is used for WAY too much filler material, when he should be doing exactly (ug it's painful to say this) as little miss book humber suggests, and be studying his ass off. The kids got the most dangerous wizard alive out for his ass, and he's worried about a damned game? JKR has pretty much fed herself into a corner, there's no way she can pull of a Harry who's strong enough to get the deed done now without making our eyes bleed, and you partially have the character of Ronnikins to thank for that.

Is he a traitor? Nah. Is he a whiner who does nothing to further himself, and bitch about being in the shadows, yet does nothing to get out of them? Si.

Neville may suck balls, but at least the boy is trying.

ron's a fucking moron.

he's a failure. he's a follower. he's the epitome of a beta male.

for someone who wants to "prove himself" so much...and rise to some form of recognition...he surely doesn't do jack shit to help himself. and i can't respect that.

he doesn't have good study habits. he got the prefect badge by default - and by his association with harry and harry's accomplishments. both friends helped him out with making the quidditch team...he wasn't even good enough for that. he's prejudiced and short-sighted. he's a bigot.

now, most of those things just simply fall under being a "child". but for an important protaganist i'm not quite sure what aspects of ron we're supposed to admire.

i can admire neville. he's actually progressed as a character. ron has either stayed the same, or actually regressed as of HBP.

and for the love of all things merlin...i will NEVER understand people shipping R/Hr.

Most of the traitor Ron stories are badly butchered, mainly because they take one aspect of him and discard everything else, but jealous Ron is clearly in the realm of believability.

although, i will agree that too often people have stories that exploit ron in an unmanly fashion and have him do a unbelievable 360 in terms of loyalty and/or affection.

these same authors usually have neville do the same instant turnaround as well - also unbelievably.

i much prefer harry growing up, realizing ron never will due to his plethora of issues, and therefore naturally distancing himself from the hapless moron.

Neviile has no balls in the first book, but begins to develop more as the books go by and eventaully shows some of his Gryffindor courage but that was late in the fifth book, i think Neville would have been better of in Hufelpuf, the looser house
