Yes! After all, they could use their good work ethic towards any cause, not just a boring, good one. And, doesn't everyone need a few loyal minions?

    Damn right! Hufflepuff's are hardcore.

Of course then again my friends who are HP fans can't decide whether I am Hufflepuff or Slytherin... I don't know how they arrived at either of thsoe conclusions though.

As a character I prefer Nevil, at first I will admit I liked Ron. At book 3 my opion of him started to change…practicly crying in fear of spiders and always winning about a damn rat kind of annoying. But in the end it was book 4 that really turned me off of Ron and it also would be the start of my questioning JK’s writing habits. (in my mind book 4 was the last good book, but that is neither here nor there) So far all JK has shown emphasized 3 of Rons traits.

1)He is extremely easy to anger.
    2)He is extremely jealous
    3)He is extremely bigoted

Now I will admit she does show some good traits about him. (Im not gunna list them b/c I cant think of them but im sure there are some…somewhere ) But the point im trying to make is that JK cant seem to make up here damned mind on whether or not Rons the picture perfect best friend or someone who hangs around Harry just for the fame. The way she writes his physic it would make him seem to be the perfect celeb stalker but the way she write conversations between him and Harry they seem to be best friends. I don’t think JK has ever written Harry thinking about Rons motivations.

The second youngest child of 7 every other one of his siblings is special in some way (I actually give JK credit for making 6 great and interesting characters in one family, yes even Ginny she was a good character before fandom ruined her) So here we are with this attention hounding kid, looking to prove himself, and he just happens to be the best friend with the most famous person in the wizarding world. As thick as Harry is in JK’s stories I would think even he could see that’s he’s being used.

Then on the other hand we have Nevil someone who we originally think of as a total spoof who eventually turns into a driven kid who’s now out looking for blood. I vote Nevil as the better character just because his character has actually matured over the 6 years we have seen him.

I guess im now falling back into my old rant of how Jk doesn’t write mature characters for a new example JK apparently doesn’t believe in dating around, b/c we ALL know that are childhood crushes end up being the loves of our lives, I mean for crists’ sake how on earth would Hermione and Ron work out as a pair, she is a freaking genius while he has the physic of a 11 year old at the age of 17. And don’t say some opposites attract bullshit she would be bored out of her mind with him within a week, what does he honestly have to offer her? (Unlike most of you guys out there I actually like Hermione, she’s Harry’s voice of reason, he should listen to her a lot more often)…I just realized im really off-topic here…sorry. Ill end this now…

NO! I miscast my vote! Damn! The topic question and the actual poll is misleading. The thing is, I cast my vote on the weasel...

Ron sucks more. He's exactly the type of person I don't want to be friends with. Celeb-Stalker bastard. If he wasn't a guy, I swear he would have jumped Harry a few books ago. Sure, Neville's weak and he can't do shit around snape but the guy is actually trying! Not like Ron who keeps whining and bitching about the stuff he doesn't have. I don't blame Neville on being a weak little thing so far. He was raised by his grandmother and I can only see a few people encouraging him. Ron has a shitload of siblings and his parents. Neville has shit. Neville's the type of person who I'd expect to rise up from the gutter and impress everyone. Ron just gets to be in limelight coz he's Harry's bestfriend.

I'd pick Neville over Ron anyday... But that's just me.

Don't worry that happens to many people.

I don't like Ron because he has the shortest temper in the world and all he cares about his fantasy world in the common room, playing chess and Quidditch. He also proves to be a BIG distraction for Harry. Neville, on the other hand, has none of there bad qualities and thus, I like him better.

    Whoes better ron or Neville?

I think that like many ppl here, Neville did some major gorwing up through out the books, had it not been for his stupid grandmother who rasied him to be a wimp, he would have turned out like his mother and father,i mean they were supposed to be respected aurors, ithink that his grandmother is just angry that she doestn haev her son (neville's dad) and instead takes out her frustration on her grandson Neville.
In my mind Ron became the fag in the fourth book, first book he sacrifices himslef for Harry, thats nice and all but then he gets jealous instead of seeing that Harry would give anything to have a family. He has not grown up at all, he just sits there wallowing in self pity and whining about living in his brothers shadows, he just expects to be great by sitting on his ass playing chess. I can see Ron becoming the next Pettigrew, he wants fame, wealth and power and he cant get it so he would join Voldemort to do it. Hes like Percy in some aspects, i hate Ron and Hermione caue shes to bossy

Neville is so totally more badass than Ron. Ron seemed okay in the first couple of books, but in the fourth he proved to me he is really no friend of Harry's. Harry is too forgiving. If Harry knew what was good for him, and went for loyal, more-badass-than-Ron friends, he would (and should) go hang with the slytherins and Neville. Possibly his Hufflepuff friends, and Luna too. He should have ditched Ron a LONG time ago.
    GO NEVILLE!!!!!!! :D

Neville is way more badass than Ron, plus I just find him a lot more likeable... Wasn't he the only DA member besides Harry standing at the end of the whole DoM battle? He also saved Harry from a DE(I think Dolohov) by stabbing him in the eye with the wand long enough for Harry to Stupefy him. At first he was pretty much just there to laugh at, but he's progressed the most of any character I can think of.

Ron's jealousy is what kills his character for me. He's jealous of Harry for being popular, famous, rich, more liked by his family(especially Molly and the Twins) than he is, girls fawning over him, marauders map, magical ability, treated like a son by nearly everybody in the wizarding world, etc etc. He's jealous of Krum for getting Hermione, his popularity, being a star athlete, his wealth. He's jealous of the twins for being so popular and inventive. It seems he's jealous of everybody, and even if its not quite as explosive as it was in GoF, it usually ends up displaying itself.

Besides, didn't Neville take a Crucio?

I think JK used neville for the laughing stock but has had to develop him and now he is a better character than the whiny redhead bastard. He obviously can hold his own in a fight as well while ron doesn't even think to use a cutting charm to get those prains off, idiot.

Neville may have been somewhat pathetic at first but still, he stood up to Harry during the first book where ron would either move out of the way or follow him just to find a way to make himself more famous and popular by being Harry's follower.

Ron was alright at first but the only time he has a backbone is when he's defending Hermione, Ginny or Harry. But even when defending Harry it's more like he's using Harry's name to scare off someone. Neville however grew a backbone at least. His situation is excusable considering his parents' situation. Even Ron has an excuse for being jealous but that's not as justified as Neville's.

So if it's still not obvious then I'm gonna say it right now. I say Neville sucks more... Hehehe, just kidding. Neville's way cooler than Ron.

Meh, I just think that Neville is better than Ron. I mean, the guy can dance! And, um, Ron's a total prick in GOF.

Ron is quite horrid in GoF. Harry is too forgiving. Of course, if he was not so, then he would have no friends...Except, possibly, Neville. Remus Lupin does not suck.

Balls to all of you. I voted for Neville, and in my opinion, I simply voted for the lesser of two evils.

Ron, as is aptly described time and time again, is an asshole. Obviously, from the Mirror of Erised in PS/SS we know taht he has huge ambitions. Now, considering that, i haven't seen the kid do a damn thing to make his wishes true. I mean, shit...in the HP universe, even the books seem to tell you that no matter what a tit you are, you can study hard and use rituals to become a badass. He hasn't even made the slightest effort. He is a shoddy wizard, a terrible yet lucky flyer and a shitty friend.

I haven't forgotten the line in OotP where they were talking about Percy's 'defection' from his family of misfits, and he says something along the lines of Oh, we were coming here to join the Order when he left the Burrow. Now, WTF?

Now, Neville is a likeable character if you're (like most hurt/comfort slash writers) into the whole limp-dick guy. Authors seem to repeatedly consider him as powerful but lacking confidence for the sole reason that he could have been the prophecy child. What utter bullshit.

Sure, he is the only one standing apart from Harry at the end of the battle in the DOM, but balls to it all, Harry was practically dragging his fat ass around. I see him as a useless person, but a potential good friend for Harry. I quite agree with how authors make sure that he is not one of the betrayers in most manipulated!Harry fics, but then Harry starts his own little army, and we see Neville become almost as strong as Harry, finding confidence out of some self-absorbed speech that Harry makes. He sucks, period.

I guess i'm guilty of having some of my opinion clouded by the actors who played them in the movies, but despite that, i insist that they are both useless. I only vote for Neville because i find Ron to be a waste of sperm, a result of excessive force and a burst condom. Nasty business, that.

As though he couldn't find out - he's a smart guy... but really no fault to Lupin, it's just another hole in JKR's colander-plot that can only be explained by either Dumbledore knowing all about how Harry was treated and deliberately keeping everyone away or everybody who knew his parents not giving a toss about Harry at all no matter what they might say now.

On to Ron and Neville though, the idea that Neville has grown up (at least a little) and Ron hasn't is actually symptomatic of the main problem with the series (or rather, with JKR). I grew up reading Harry Potter, I've always been within a year of Harry's age every time I've read one of the books. The problem is, while I've grown up, learned about sex, drugs and violence, and come to enjoy more complex prose, characters and plot devices... JKR hasn't changed at all. Oh she gave a little nod to romance with her ineptly fluffy together-forever scenes in HBP but really, I'm pretty sure we are all or have been teenagers on this forum... and life isn't like that. Im 18 now and I've done drugs, slept around and while I haven't personally been involved in anything more violent than what Malfoy did to Harry at the start of HBP, I read books about it, watch films about it and play games about it. I found the way Harry acted in HBP to be more like PS than any other book so far. In fact, the whole book was alot like PS, minus the innocent charm. While JKR's characters have aged numerically, and her original readers have all grown up in the real world, she is still writing for ten year olds.

In conclusion, Ron sucks and I don't know why I put that particular rant in this topic of all places.
